Hey guys,

I built a new PC last December and decided to switch to the AM5 platform. My old motherboard was broken, so I thought I'd upgrade everything to be more future-proof.

	Here are the specs:

	CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X

GPU: ASUS Dual Radeon RX 6750 XT

PSU: Be Quiet! Pure Power 12 M 1000W

	Cooler: DeepCool AK400 Digital

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X670E-F Gaming WiFi

	RAM: 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5-6000 CL36

I reused the SSDs and GPU from my old PC to save on costs. The operating system is Windows 11 Pro N, debloated with Tiny11.

There is the original 120mm fan that came with the case at the back, and two Arctic fans at the top. One of these Arctic fans occasionally makes loud grinding noises at higher speeds. The cooling isn’t great, especially the GPU, which gets quite hot, and the PC can get pretty loud. I'm also not sure how to properly set the fan curves.

My question is, could someone advise me on how to get the maximum performance out of my components? What can I overclock, what settings should I adjust, what should I do in the BIOS, which programs should I use, etc.?

I'd love to buy a new GPU, the 4080 Super or 4070 Ti Super looks really appealing to me, but unfortunately, I have no money and my PC is all I have.

So, I’d like to get the most out of what I currently have. I’m good at putting PCs together and assembling them, but overclocking and tweaking settings are not my thing. I’m also open to suggestions and opinions on how I can improve my setup.

I hope you can help a fellow nerd out ❤️

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

	Hello there,

I'm currently in the process of building a gaming rig and I'm aiming for top-notch CPU performance. I've done my research, but I'm seeking some additional advice from the experts here at HWBOT.

My main goal is to optimize my CPU for gaming, ensuring smooth gameplay and maximizing FPS in demanding titles. I'm torn between a few different options and could use some guidance on the best route to take.

Here are some specific questions I have:

Intel or AMD: Which brand currently offers the best performance for gaming rigs?

Overclocking: Is it worth it for gaming purposes? If so, what are some safe overclocking techniques and tools to use?

Cooling Solutions: What type of cooling setup would be most effective for keeping the CPU cool under heavy gaming loads?

Any suggestion or guidance would be highly appreciated.

I have been competing in the enthusiast league for all year. During country cup I submitted 2 scores on chiller both not sub zero and ticked the box for the scores not to counted towards my total. There has been no issue till tonight and I have been upgraded to apprentice. I have been intentionally not subbing anything on chiller to stay in the enthusiast category for this year and given I was leading as of today this is a bit frustrating at the last minute. Provided no one does a big score drop at the last minute it would be rather unfortunate to loose my 1st place due to this

I think we need to rename apprentice to sub extreme.

Apprentice can go down to -80 or -90 which is not a trainee.

Some of our apprentices are the best in the world.

	Just saying .

Hope you guys don't mind the comment but it's been bugging me for years.

	Hi,

First of all, I fully understand if it isn't allowed, but with the recent and future competitions where your league matters I thought it was worth to ask.

Last summer I made two submissions with chilled water which put me in the apprentice league. Since then I have only used AIOs and air coolers, and have no plans on changing that, making me feel like I belong in the enthusiast league rather than apprentice. These are the two subs I made: GB3 multi and GB3 single. Feel free to delete them or disable points.

	Thanks in advance

Is cascade cooling considered extreme league or apprentice? In the description of the extreme league "ready to battle each other with retail hardware and liquid nitrogen" where as Apprentice says "starting out with chilled water up to dry ice". Cascade is between dry ice and ln2 but in my opinion is a lot closer to dry ice.

I'm an overclocker for a few years now. I worked my way up with hard and long work-just like almost anyone here on top positions.
But now I'm facing .. we Enthusiasts are facing very depriving situation: GAP.
The points are distributed in such a horrible way that Enthusiast overclocking is slowly making no sense at all.

Today I've made a lot of scores and submissions with 3970X Threadripper, despite 3 days of testing, regulating and getting such awesome results for a real life usage like rendering,
Those are scores at almost highest possible levels for LC cooling, and yed despite getting extreeme results brings dissapointment.

I literally will get no point for results here.
Two days ago I had beaten almost every score for 3960x - and this points will vanish to almost none right after someone will take LN2 or LH and just try to make some scores.
Using the gap between Extreme and Enthusiast scores which are using totally different cooling systems is a bit of stupidity.
And now we are facing a total cut of from points - the more cores and lower lithography the bigger gap between Extreme an Enthusiasts.

As Roman showed - almost the same voltage and only difference in temperature - totally different silicone die behavior.
I have a few friends who thought they will have fun - because they know a lot about OC and they're having fun with it ... they came to HWBOT,
got some nice scores... in the meaning of Enthusiast results but not points. And that was the end of them scoring on HWBOT.

So, to boost up competition on a realistic level there should be division of scores. Full division so even on a chart of the CPU there would be colums
"Benchmark Name" / WR / WR Enthusiast / Country Record / Country Enthusiast / Team Record / Personal Record.

Same in Hall of Fame and Rankings.

There is a voltage wall and temperature wall for Enthusiasts and no experience can do anything about it.

Right now HWBOT is being more and more like a marketing tube which is of course totally misleading for unknowing buyers.
The portals are screaming about new records... and many of my clients are asking will I make a 5GHz+ TR3 AMD for them.

The smaller lithography the bigger the gap between Extreme and Enthusiast will be.
Especially when some scores are sponsored and they are being counted for the gap with Enthusiasts overclocking.

I can just hope You will take some actions as this two types of overclocking should be divided.

	Cheers

	Peter

	Hey HWBot,

In light of a few results and discussions again lately, I just wanted to float an idea that’s been going around in circles for years.

Also, keeping in mind the changes we have just experienced with the new revision, the simplicity of the points system now seems much better, so I can see a possible point to introduce

What i I would like to propose is to reduce the Leagues down to 3. I know....I know..... we keep saying it but one day I hope there can be a simple resolution.

	My proposal :

Extreme League - for everyone using LN2, LHe, DICE and Cascade cooling.

Enthusiast - everything from Single Stage, chiller, ice bucket, water, AIO, and air. (Possibly have monitoring to prove temps)

Novice or Rookie - 3-6 month period. Same cooling as enthusiast

	Heres my thought process :

Those currently in Elite or sponsored could have a flag to their name. No reason for them not to be the same as everyone else IMO. They all use the same cooling, we all know the hardware they have access too, and to be honest, the majority of guys in there are all there by choice anyway, not because they work direct for the manufacturers.

I chose from Cascade and colder due to their nature. It’s harder to access a cascade than a traditional Phase Change, and sometimes takes more skill to control, much like LN2. DICE is there because hey, if you need a pot, it should be extreme.

Enthusiast needs to be openend up. Think back to the days of when Single Stages first appeared in retail. For many, this was the first big push into more extreme cooling in the hobby but accessible to the masses (with a big enough wallet). IMO, this is where most “enthusiasts” will call their limit, to remove the worry of killing hardware, or sourcing DICE/LN2 suppliers. So why not make it the limit to the league.

Compounding the positives to this, it it will remove the “not possible on water” rubbish that always flows, and the bullshit will end. Want to crack open a window in a cold climate, good on you, you can do this without guilt (I’m sure most do now anyway without the guilt)

There’s been so many in enthusiast hide their real cooling over the years, or even remove their subs in order to avoid being caught out and moved leagues. If there isn’t the goal of staying top of the league and bullshitting to stay their, then the whole enthusiast league can only improve.

Opening it up to chillers, Ice Buckets and Single Stage coolers will give them the ability to stop handicapping themselves and actually strive to improve and embrace the higher cooling methods. After all, of people don’t have a reason to improve, or try something new, why would they bother. I can call out some of the culprits I believe are in the community for this, but they know why they stay.

Novice can have their own league, just to help them feel special and just have a go.

Please, let’s discuss this constructively. I understand most people have had a gut full of discussing and having no resolution, but as a community that wants this to improve, I feel we need to.

I’ve run out of time typing this now (I’m on lunch), but would like to add to this a bit with an idea for competition (unless a mod would rather discuss in pm prior).

	Thanks for the space guys.

	Hi all,

not sure if this is the right place but the question comes down to the league in the end. So i thought it might be good here.

I was thinking buying a 9900K ans was proposed a piece based on a cpu-z screenshot, telling it is ES hardware.

Then I took a look at the latest subs on Hwbot for 9900K and I see ES everywhere, for folks in the Extreme and Elite leagues.

Is cpu-z mislabelling retail as ES? Or are Extreme benchers using ES while they should be Elite (or need to be promoted Elite) ?
Before I buy, I'd like to know.

	Thanks

General Information

The Overclockers League is the most prominent leaderboard at HWBOT. Developed by former staff member Mtzki and introduced in 2006, the League has undergone many updates to accomodate all aspects of overclocking. In its current form, the League is based on three parameters: benchmark rankings, hardware rankings, and competitions. Your Overclockers League score is calculated as follows:

OCL = SUM [Top15(benchmark) + Top20(hardware) + Top10(competition)]

The League is sub-divided in five categories, depending on your status in the overclocking world. There are: Elite, Extreme, Enthusiast, Novice, and Rookie overclockers. Each class has its own leaderboard, but the points are all based on the same algorithms and points. The classes are defined as follows:

Elite: The top crop of the overclocking world – compete with LN2, engineering samples and connected to the hardware industry.

Extreme: Compete with all types of extreme cooling and use retail hardware. Not backed by the hardware industry.

Enthusiast: Use only ambient cooling

Novice: Use ambient cooling and has been at the site less than one year

Rookie: Use ambient cooling and has been at the site less than three months

Hi to all,

Have noticed at least two cases of Apprentice League members moving to LN2.

Thought that the system automatically moves them to Extreme League.

Nope, has not happened for a week now.

Anyone that can rectify that, please have a look

Hello HWBOT forum and fellow overclockers. Recently i had a discussion with a friend about overclocking and to whom it really appeals. As i have seen many of you in other places except the hwbot forum, i would like to see the age range of overclocking. I also would like to know the reasons you keep (extreme) overclocking and what gives you motivation. All this because i am just a 15 year old, trying to climb the rankings, and maybe continue overclocking as an job, so yeah, suggestions and thoughts are always thankful.

Hey guys,

I'd like to know your opinions on the subject: The line between chilled water and normal water.

1) Temps or purpose?

Is it about temps which are hard to verify. Or is it about cooling method and purpose by itself?

Example:

A) You live in area where is 30°C and your home is equipped with AC, so you're benching in 20°C. Ambient or chiiled/cold? I say ambient.

B) You live in area where is 24°C and you run AC to 16°C or below with purpose to cool down the air so the temp of water in loop goes down, is that ambient or chilled/cold water? I say chilled/cold

C) You put out rads in winter or open the window to decrease temps below normal temperatures human being lives in for 24/7. Ambient or chilled/cold? I say chilled/cold.

I think weather cooling as ambient is nonsence, its all about purpose and even that some people like low temps for living, I think that no-one really lives in 18°C or below produced by AC for 24/7/365.

Please kindly answer in:

A:

B:

C:

and share additional thoughts.

Enthusiast league is mess really and the situation isnt really clear a there is much headroom to infinite argue what is or isnt chilled/cold.

Thanks

Hello Overclockers.

Some time ago, I decided to don't care about rankings, since the rules not follow the things I think is basic, and fair.

So we keep overclocking here in my country, and even we encourage people to join Hwbot, push scores and so on... but personally, I don't mind about rankings (what imho is different than "to brake records").

I even don't want you change the rules, because I am no more involved, since my opinion never was considered, so, is just a tip.

So, regardless all, I love Overclocking... I like the League, and respect you guys, even some don't like my way of view.

Then will leave my 2 cents, than you can think and discuss if you want.

CPU ES is the most unfair thing... even not allowed in competition, but allowed in Hwbot. So, how about Titan Pascal, that nobody can buy in any place (not talking in Brazil is impossible, but you cannot find in Amazon, Newegg, Big and Tiny stores), killing all scores made under effort by competitors?

What about to allow some part, after available for all?

The other things like "amazing 6320 XTU 742 points", the power of 100 points in 4 way, competition points, power to very old benchs, no power to 3D Games, DX12 and so on... are just a few things I disagree, but I can't change.

For the last, I am just posting, because regardless I have very few participation in the League, I have too many friends, that ALWAYS question "WHY", for the things like this.

You don't need to hate me, because I have posted... because you are part of this or think different, because I just give up and will not insist.

Best wishes for all, and sorry if my english is not good enough to clear my thinking.

General Information

The Teams League is the only leaderboard that ranks communities by their overclocking strength. Each overclocker member of the team contributes to the team’s points in two ways. First, there are the Team PowerPoints which are awarded to the best score of the team in any benchmark or hardware ranking. Second, a tenth of the total member points also contributes to the team. Thus, the formula to calculate the Team League is as follows:

TL = SUM [ALL(TeamPowerPoints) + 1/10 (member points)]

You can find the Teams League here: http://hwbot.org/league/teams
