Phase & Cascade overclocking

  1. I keep coming up dry on finding companies that sells any evaporators. I dont have a machine shop though that would be fun to work on for this.

  2. Started by MaddMutt,

I’m trying to repair an old SS and need a new condensor. The evap looks like a old Chilly model (I’ve got no replies from BartX’s store on a new evap) The Condensor looks beat up? I’ve tried searching for them but just get a Car’s Radiator in return Thanks 🙂

Hello all, Wanted to build this for 10 years. Now the time has come and I made my first single stage. It is my first build but the compressor will be replaced with a rotary one from an old AC unit. I bought a used ( compressor NJ 6220Z, condenser ) and got evaporator from a friend who made single stages and cascades almost 20 years ago. It is charged with r404a gas (380Gr) the capillary tube is around 0.7mm (outside diameter 1.9mm), length is around 2-2.5M . It is working OK in idle around -46°C but on long loads goes up fast. I really don`t know how to tune it. Suction pressure is -0.2 bar, discharge is 9 bar. I only bench 775 socket ... The total cost i…

  5. I had posted this message in the Extreme overclocking section, I had not seen the Phase & Cascade Overclocking section, I am posting the link to the original one, I am not a youyube pro, excuse my errors. I hope this will bring back memories for you, or a discovery for others? Good viewing To the question, is it for sale, yes, but a little patience. I know very well that the device is a collector's item, especially in near mint condition, incredible, the 15 years of storage, it seems to be in the right place. Even me, when I finally decided to give it a try, I fell out of my chair, only a bit of dust, unbelievable. I said t…

Hello Want to show You a work which I done in 2018 . Sorry for not good pictures, using iphone 5s to make photos in dark workshop wasn't good idea. 1. Cascade to Belgium, 18kBTU + 12kBTU , bartx 65mm diam evap, R507/R1150, gauges, automatic oilseparator. -86C@400W -80C@550W I have transported it by myself to Belgium :). ------------------------------------- 2. Cascade to Spain, 18kBTU + 11kBTU , 54mm steeper evap, R507/R1150, gauges, oilseparator with handvalve. -85C@400W -83C@500W ---------------…

  8. I'm sure they must be out there but I couldn't think up the right search terms atm. Does anyone know where I could find one? I'm not sure exactly how much work/$ it would be and I'd like to find out if it's something I can handle. And what are your thoughts on a DICE/ethanol ice box? I.e. a drink cooler with a few gallons of denatured alcohol and DICE, and you pump that through your water block. And because it might worry some people - I have no intention of trying to bend rules or cheat cooling/league rules. I already do DICE cooling and have a couple pots/all the stuff. Or should I just forget about single stage/water chillers and b…

People are asking sometimes about it, so I decided to make a guide. Please make it sticky if possible. It's for all single stage cooling, including a chillers too. It's for the information and safety purposes. For cascades it's one more rule - do not start 2nd stage, before 1st is not cold enough. But cascades have more protection devices, temperature relays etc. Phase Change User Guide (Single Stage): 1. It’s plug and play. No need to refill gas or any maintenance. 2. Mount cooler on the CPU/GPU, start the platform, warm up a TIM till 40-45C on evap, then start the cooler. 3. After first (cold) start wait till cooler reaches its operating temperature …

I have a very small SS unit Mach 2 that was tuned and performing amazingly good ( 3D on 9900k @ 5965Mhz load no HT ). But after benching my i3 7530K for 8 hours one night it lost the performance and now it wont hold any loads at all . It idles at -32 but it cannot hold any loads at all and it will crash when running my cpus , I’m very sad since LN2 it's very expensive here on the Island of Puerto Rico and the Dry Ice plant its an 8 hour drive round trip , so my real choice are Single Stages , Cascades and water chillers. Anyone knows who can service/repair this little tinny unit ? it s an old Mach 2 was tuned and regas long time ago to hold 300w loads. I need som…

Hello to all. I plan to use the Single Stage phase change under the new CPU. I have questions: for daily use, not only a benchmark, in terms of noise, does it make sense to use this type of cooling? I read review about Asetek LS and Prometeia, level of noise a around 50-60 db, this loud of powerful water custom loop. But compressors which uses in this Single Stage - 8-12 cm3, 1/4 - 1/2 HP. Modern CPUs have got 8 and more cores, so TDP also sure higher. I read - 6 core needed 1/2 - 3/4 HP comps, for 8 cores - from 1 HP (21 cm3) to 1 1/4 HP (26 cm3). Also i have got questions - 1) Best refrigerants? For SS is a R-507A on ratio perf…

Hey guys, i recent got my hands on some hardware i'd like to permanently isolate, and was wondering what experiences y'all have had with different methods so i could chose what would be best. In this case i'm talking about a gpu since i find them particularly annoying to isolate. Methods i've looked into are nail polish, varnish, vaseline, and dielectric grease. I heard varnish may crack depending on the kind used, resulting in the affected part of the board turning white, which is less than ideal for MB's, but isn' so bad for GPU's which don't go as far sub-zero. Any other experiences?

  13. So I have been working on a cascade TEC cooling unit that can get the cold side to well bellow -100c at idle and when a heat load is applied it sits at around -70 at 230 watt load. My plan is to use an ac to cool a water loop as the first loop that will cool a cascade system that I build years ago that can achieve a delta of ~30c from the hot side. My ac unit brings the water down to about -20c which means that if it works as planned the first stage will get down to -50c or so. I plan to use 4 of them to cool pure ethanol to cool my final stage which should get down bellow -100c. My problem right now is any tubing I have tried starts to break at anything bellow -40c. Any …

Hello As I said in previous topic this year I've made also some rebuilds and repairs of unit: no.1 - repair a leak in prometeia mach 2 which was already modded by a phase-changer from Holland/Belgium - tune for 260W - evaporator 38mm unknown design - -42C unloaded/ -28C loaded no.2 - changing of damaged compressor from 2nd stage of cascade which I build approx 8-10 years ago - tune for 315W mine old dummyload - evaporator 54mm steeper - -98C unloaded/-85C loaded no.3 - repair a leak and changing of evaporator to bartx's 65mm evaporator in "deep purple" cascade (2x2.5HP) - spark.nl's unit- tune for 550W (max of bartx's dummyload) - evaporator 65mm bartx's -…

Hello, Not sure if this is the correct subforum. As the title suggests, I need help with SS refill. I bought some time ago used unit from my teammate. The SS is made by LittleDevil and is similar to this one: http://ldcooling.com/shop/ld-pc-v2/52-ld-pc-v2-phase-change.html Maybe just a little bit older (3 years), but should be the same, minus the usb controller. It doesn't hold the same temperatures as before, so I want to refill it. Does anyone know what kind of gas (r507 ?), pressure and oil LD uses in these? I tried to contact him, but have no answer to date. Keep in mind I don't know anything about phase change, never built one myself, etc. So I …

Hello Maybe some of You remember mine phase-change builds which I made in 2006-2011 years. This year I back a bit to building phase-change, I repair few units and build one new cascade I want to show You mine 2017 cascade. 28K + 25K BTU Toshiba rotaries, gauges, temperature displays and bartx's 65mm diam evap which made superb work . Performance: evaporator on 400W = -96*C, on 530-540W (max of bartx's dummyload) = -92*C. Regards Piotr

Hello everyone, Time to post something new in this section I'd like to show my latest cascade build. Took me a lot of time to make this, but finally build come to an end. It's big, noisy and powerful. I was able to reach -97C @ 360W load and -94C @ 400W. Should be enough for modern cpus... for some time Enjoy

My Cascade seems to have a leak on the second stage, the preassure is very low and it doesn't cool down anymore, is there anyone relatiyely close to southern austria (except tiborrr, i allready send him a PM, but I don't think he is active here anymore). If anyone has an Idea, that would be great, of course I'd pay you the refrigerant + something for work

I was wondering how much load can handle my single stage cooler. I've build recently a new load tester with 180-580W range. So far I had only 350W and it seems it's not enough. I also wanted to test delta T between evap and heater according to some info from people, that they go into positive temperatures on hot (6 core) cpus. Wattage is the last row on the screen on the bottom, temperature on the display is evap temp (upper one) and heater temp (copper block with 5 cartidge heaters for injection moulds on the bottom). Thermal compound is Arctic MX-2. Maximum load for this cooler (19k btu comp) is around 500W. 580W only for short time operation and as you c…

http://i.imgur.com/nCIrmNK.jpg Here is a picture of this specific phase unit under load with a 3570K At 5.8, noting that its at -39 with load, I recently bought it and when it arrived I decided to do a test power up, it doesnt get anywhere below -30, which is... almost 20 Degrees off of what it should be at idle,I decided to leave it a day and retry, now it hits -33 which is better... But not what it was doing before, I left it another day since I was at school and it is staying at -33, does anyone happen to know what could be the cause of this? It was shipped a few hundred miles inside the UK, but surely the gas would be fine from that, would it not?

  22. I just picked up an old Prometeia Mach I unit, and I am a bit of a beginner when it comes to insulation and sub-zero cooling. So I had a few things im curious about- What are good methods of insulation? I have seen kneaded eraser as one, liquid electrical tape as well but will normal electrical tape with a layer of foam be good? I have put down a layer of tape on my AM3 board (it's not an amazing overclocker but will do fine for getting used to sub-zero) like this: (I've also put Dielectric grease in the socket, and will be adding foam when the cooler shows up soon) other thing: I'm getting the unit in New condition so it still has the stock R134 in it. I've…

  23. As per the title, I have a 10k BTU AC unit, which needs a minor repair & then it will be set to go for extreme cooling. (Someone decided it would be a great idea to drill a hole in the bottom and punctured one of the copper tubes on the side of one of the rads, so will be a minor fix). Since I'll have to refill & fix the thing anyway I figured that a Phase Change cooler was in order... What do I need, and where to start? (Heres a pic of the unit with the cover off: )

  24. Started by Lays,

Do I need to do any type of insulating for chilled water? I want to put my 1080mm radiator into a tub of ice essentially, or just run cold water with ice in it through the loop. I assume I need to do something to the tubing, like some neoprene or paper towels and wrap the tubing or something like that? But the GPU block, do I need to take the GPU block off and do anything to the PCB / GPU memory? Then also around the CPU block put some paper towels?

Just been running my single stage and the compressor has just stopped i have just opened up the electrical box and theres a large capacitor, could that of failed?? How do i test?? Not sure if my mm has a capacitance reading. The fans still spins but nothing else, it just cut out, no pop or anything.
