I just came across this guide: https://barbonenet.wordpress.com/2017/02/08/how-to-make-the-compound-crackfree/ I know that his intentions are good and he wants to help our community but you should never ever "cook" your TIM unless you know exactly what is inside. Depending on the TIM you have different types of polymers as matrix materials and the gases can be toxic if vaporized. edit: Also: there is no water inside polymer TIMs.

Ok, here it is. I was looking for the best sub forum for this. I was wondering what the best way is to apply thermal grease to make sure a crack doesn't happen. I had it twice this weekend with 2 different methods. At -100C or beyond I saw positive temps. Before I say how I do it I am wondering who has a method that works most of the time (besides the new Kingpin thermal paste).

Well im not looking to get back into OCing and having some fun and this time round it like to get into something abit more extreme. On that note what is there around in the budget DICE pot market?? Willing to look at used aswell however cant look at the market place on here just yet. Thanks Tom @ TAGsystems

So mainly I'm curious if the insulation and everything that I have done on the MSI X79A-GD45 Plus is good for LN2, and so on. (It's a 3970XCPU) So to start I have layered the area directly near the socket and around the edges of the CPU with kneaded eraser. I also have foam under the board: I then put a cut out part of an old shirt (in lieu of a towel) around the cpu and socket and then mounted the pot with the various things: Am I doing it well, not well, or? I haven't put any dielectric grease in the socket is that something that is necessary or not. I have read a few reviews that have differing opinions on it so. Thanks!

Hello everyone. I am in the process of developing a series of home made thermal compounds, some of which have undergone global performance tests, none of which are currently marketed. My Vostok V3 thermal compound show's the most promise as a mid range compound. I would like to know how I might go about getting Vostok V3 on the list with the 26 others ranked according to it's performance. I believe V3 will be ready all going well, by the end of February. Regards Noel Craig VostokUK

Friend of mine asked me looong time ago to make sth like this for this board with no holes. Having a while today I ended up with something like this. Still it needs some modifications, but looks like it's working. I made new 4mm thick aluminium backplate. It was designed for pot with 45x45mm square base or 54mm round. No idea how it will work with most popular pots. Bracket is 8mm thick to make some stiffness with such thin walls. Not to mention about capacitors and RAM slots, which are very close to the bracket. Assembly is really not convienient considering fact, that it has to be done with half-opened socket, but I don't have idea how to make it in different wa…

Hey Folks, I was given the opportunity to test this tool and received it few days ago. Now the concept is clearly not new but what can make a difference is the execution and the price/availability. Nowdays delidding is clearly mandatory for anyone looking to squeeze the last drops of performance from their CPU . The RocketCool Delidder will do this perfectly safe and without worrying of damaging your CPU. First of all the tool and accesory: Using the tool is extremely easy and bulletproof . Simply put the CPU in it's designed part ,you also have a mark for the right corner,i obviously missed it but it worked perfectly even like thi…

I am a beginner in sub-ambient cooling, and have started planning my first LN2 rig. Because dewar rental and LN2 itself are quite expensive, how much do I need for a day, or perhaps two, of benching?

Hello everyone, Me and a friend are busy to set up a company called I.J. IT. We want to develop a "Custom machine" and we are focussing on GPU's. Therefore we looking for skilled hex scripters. At the moment we are overclocking Sapphire Nitro RX 480. We managed to get decent numbers out of the card but we reached now a point we are unable to get higher numbers. We are stuck with power control like vddci, vid, mvddci and reversed hex scripting. We did research on the internet and we have found this website and we have seen that there are skilled people around this website/forum that is why we created a post. We hoping we will find the right people who are…

1) Is there a special BIOS for extreme cooling ? 2) The back of the card has 12 LEDs, 6 green and 6 red, even at stress it's the same, is it ok?

Hi folks I have had several suggestions from OCN, OCA, OC'ers, and Xtrmsys to join up here and share about the OCC. Gunslinger, Splave and Roman are welcome to chime in. The OCC is a controlled LN2 chiller which can be set at any temperature down to LN2 limits (around 180-196C depending on load) and maintain the set temp (or the set-point) by the implementation of LN2 (and heat with the OCC-HC). Also the Zero Ice purge case provides the perfect environment, zero ice, no insulation needed. Our L&L Cooling youtube channel has several videos of the OCC working at several different temps. In these videos I overclock to the best of my ability with the OCC main…

Hello everyone. Yesterday my power supply died, and I think he destroyed the PCI- E slot. I checked with another power supplier, and have stripes on the screen. I tried two different cards and still same problem. When I connect the monitor directly to the processor gpu (hd 530 ) I have smooth image and no problem. When I checked visually the board, I saw some part a little bit black on the other side of the board. The part indicated in red on the picture. Is this part related to PCI-E ? can i replase it ? https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-FFMXyR8bZQo/V4znfbdCEmI/AAAAAAAAEdc/_1nx8glbUFgnYQwsAPsj2ZvIH0KneIruwCCo/s912/maximus_viii_gene-0-1280x1024.jpg

Hello everyone, Does anyone know what the code 00 means on asus z170 gene. Everything was fine until I put dry ice on card and processor. At first the board lights up but there was no post and get code 99 on board. I took the card and put another card with air cooling Then I received a Code 00. I took apart everything, heated with a dryer, and put air cooling but still code 00. is it the cpu or board ?

If you benched Skylake on LN2 already, I'm sure you had some kind of cracking issues. We already tried a lot to improve the cracking. Mainly by changing the thermal paste. However, also the black glue between IHS and CPU PCB seems to help. At least it was much worse for me whenever I removed the black glue. It's just a guess but I think the space between IHS and PCB has some kind of influence on the cracking behavior. I made some spacers out of stainless steel. The thickness is 0.10 mm and you can stack them e.g. if you want to use 0.30 mm spacer. Just fix them with a little bit of TIM. This is a pure research project - nothing I'm trying to make money on. I have 5…

alrite, i posted this over on ocn but i figured id double my chances of getting input by posting here too. anyways, im making my own ln2 pot, as the title suggests, during breaks at work. so far ive taken measurements off my waterblock back plates to get things like diameter of the pot and were the holes need to be on the mounting bracket. only thing im at a loss for is placement of the thermal probe and how much surface area i should go for in the copper base? i believe its alot of surface area will make it a fast pot and too little will make it slow. but how much is to much and how little is to little? anyways heres my cad drawing of what it will look like, pret…

Hi everyone! I'm going to get my first dewar soon (probably a new one, with warranty, about 20lt capacity) but since it will be stored inside my house (home office), i want to know from experienced guys here if there is any tips about pressure/valve problems (is it going to explode?! LOL ), properly storage, how much ln2 do i need to keep in it for future refill etc...? Thanks in advance

So I had an idea. I'll try make an LN2 pot for as little as possible. I know some other guys have made pots from stock GPU heat sinks. However as far as I can tell all of these were made by attaching metal tubing and such to the heatsinks to contain the LN2. However I have no idea how to metal work and so I decided too just try seal up a refrence HD 4870 heatsink with some electrical tape. I then threw a couple hundred ml of LN2 in it. I didn't see any LN2 escaping and most of the tape held on just fine. It did however make a ton of cracking sounds as it cooled down. I'm hoping that that was just the tape shrinking and not the heatsink fins disconnecting from the copper b…

Hey We all know that delidding is necessary to get good scores with Skylake CPUs. I binned a lot of CPUs recently and tried to delid one of my best ones with a razor blade. However I cut a little bit too deep and damaged the CPU. CPU only runs with 8 PCIe lanes now which is a pitty. So I decided to create a little tool for safe CPU delidding - I call it Delid Die Mate. The tool is pretty simple and is based on the vice method. However, CPU and heatspreader are secured inside the tool and can't move. So no risk to damage any part of the CPU The whole delidding process takes about 1 minute with the tool. In addition you can also glue the IHS back on with the Deli…

Good afternoon friends, I would like to start on a overclocking a little heavier, the cooling aspect, I had thought of putting the radiator Corsair H80i in a combination ice + alcohol (think that's it). What should I do in this case? Hugs.
