  1. Benching is like a career. It takes a certain person to be a police man. A certain kind of person to be a surgeon.

    and...

It takes a special kind of person to get into competitive benching.

Since kids are born with mobile computing, PCs are just not popular any more. Console gaming is bigger than PC ever was. Mobile computing is bigger than PC overclocking ever was.

The hay days are gone fellas. Overclocking is still here, but no longer needed. Performance gains for average users is gone. Run cpu stock, get max performance. With tweaking gain some.... but not like the old days with 50-100% possible overclocking on an air cooler.

Benchmarks are getting more and more complicated. We are going to wrap even the legacy benchmarks? What for? Make it more difficult or automate hwbot?

Ah well, I'll bench until the benchmate is implemented and then my benching days will probably go down hill with the rest of it.

I'm in for the ride HWBot!! Just leave me an open cup holder and an "oh shit handle" and let's keep on benching.

    +1 to the above.

This doesn't need to disappear, instead it could be stickied so the next time it starts up (And it will sooner or later) you can just find the thread and "Point" to it as warning to whomever.

Adding it to HWBot History page would be a good start. It hasn't been updated since 2011 in fact.

Thans to many for the kids words, seems some others still don't understand how this site/hobby & community functions.

I think Scotties post is spot on, it's not about me, but to all those hat invested lots of time and effort to keep the site up and running. Trying to make it as fun as it could be. Similar to daily live, we have to impose rules and regulations to keep things structurized and fair to everyone. There are always problems and learning moments, like now.  Does the site have issues, ofcourse! I'm the first to admit that, but again this is mainly because we are constantly evolving and the lack of manpower or manhours makes things on the coding side even harder. It's like a  new bios, fix one thing break two other things. Patience is a virtue people!

Just to burst your bubble, this site tries to run break even and is currently based on two main income/event sources: G.Skill and Galax competitions. I don't need to tell you that due to Galax not hosting an event due to regional tensions, we will not even achieve break even this year. So a big hand to Frederik who invest his own money in this site to pay for the server and other costs. We have seen other times with big sponsorship, but the ROI ( Return of Investment ) is always killed by our own community. Leading to sponsors to drop out or just not even adhering to the agreed deals.

I have no clue why but no matter which generation of OCers I look at, I  can always label ourselves as being  Self Destructive. In the golden times when I was still as young and sexy as many are now, we had numerous world wide competitions. Most vendors didn't have in house benchers so they relied on the knowledge and feedback of the community. Nowadays they have in-house benchers, because these selected people will not turn into the super greedy species some companies had to deal with before. Some examples:  I have witnessed big shot OCers claiming all the samples that they used during an event or even what the fluck just touched. In a dedicated OC lab I even saw sports bags open and a few OCers just putting in binned graphics cards, without even asking for the samples. And there are tons more examples how, WE, the community just keep on shooting in our own feet. Usually it is just a few individuals that mess things up for all the rest. Bussines as usual, year after year, leading to the vendors dropping out one by one.

Biggest loss on the previous was when Massman decided to leave,  he was the main contact with all the major companies. Companies we needed, to provide samples to the moderators to check out the new hardware BEFORE it hit the shelves, providing site sponsorship and the already mentioned prizes for the hosted events at HWBot. Ney, Websmile, Strunkenbold kept it running but the numerous encountered frustrations with the members all made them to leave. If something is wrong or not up to our own likings, the blaming finger immediately points straight at  HWbot or the moderator that apparently doesn't like your latest brilliant idea.

Question: do you as an employee will do the same with your boss? Probably not as he provides your income. So why do this on a site which is free of charge and which allows us to have fun? Beats me, I can only label this an act of lack of respect.

If I'm overlooking this particular thread you can clearly distinct the different interest and understandings of some of our users. We always spot the same types and characters: the all knowing, the sensible, the smartass ake -, the I-want-to-have-the-last-word and other types.  I guess most of us are grown ups, but why act so childish or even turn into a freaking spoiled brat? Too bad the thread was already moderated as it might have been very educational to read some of the removed content.

It is time we all look in the mirror and ask ourselves the question: am I doing it right? What do people actually think of me? Am I the next big thing? Why is OC going backwards? Why can't we just press run the benchmark, why do we feel the need to tinker with the free software to get a better score? Self reflection might help with many, some are just lost cases that will never grasp it.

Anyway to sum up, I decided to stay as I don't want the kill this site. The current and old HWBot team has devoted way too much to just allow it to go down. But I hope everybody understands now that some will need to tone down, no matter how convinced you are that you are right, a simple No is a No. Stop acting like a 10 year old! Can we please everybody? Nope but we got for the community , not just you, the individual!!!

The Moderation Team will be reinforced with Matthew Bush and hopefully the integration of BenchMate will still be done before end of year.

    Leeghoofd out

Welcome back. Sorry for my big mouth... Some content here, that I was part of, had really nothing to do with you, but some back and forth from another member and myself. It was unprofessional, and I'll choose to seek information and think before speaking. That said, my apologies, I'll be sure it doesn't happen again.

    So moving on....

How can we as individuals and teams help??

Help in growth of the community? Help in gathering sponsors and making it worth while for them to come and stay?

What can we do to help YOU guys achieve the goals you're after?

  4. Maybe an idea is Alby doesnt have to mod forums and concentrate on everything else.

Then find a respectable user to moderate the disccusions here.

Would something like that work for hwbot forums? Just an idea here. Im sure the forum stress can get crazy.... Which is strange cause its not like theres some super heavy user base here... Even though I think there should be.

Go HWBot admin and mods. All do a great job yea? Scott is right, should be appreciation for all admin and mods.

You guys are talking like everyone in the room knows what you are talking about but for a relative noob like me (joined at the end of 2015) would it be inappropriate to ask what it all means? Or point me to a place where I could read some background? What it sounds like is that hwbot is owned by someone who doesn't play a role other than make sure the bills are paid? Is that person the original founder? The other day - can't remember where - someone was talking about Overclocking TV just like you guys are doing now - no names were being used but I felt like while I was reading it I was supposed to know what they were talking about. Basically, when I hear this stuff I get all pissed off because I respect you all and if you're pissed off then I get all pissed off but then I'm standing there all pissed off and I don't know why.

Really the finances of HWBot is nobodies business and some people take wild stabs at blank targets.

Here's a small link to when HWbot started and has names you seek. https://hwbot.org/article/history This link only puts history up to the date of 2011, and there's been changes and shifts since then. So I cannot get you the inbetween from 2011 to 2015 when you started.

I remember when HWBot started. From rev 1 to 2 was a vast change. Every revision since some changes for good some, not so good, but has always been the number one spot to submit a benchmark and it was/is still fun.

Oh how this community grew in the mid 2000's. I remember when ALL the overclock forums thrived. watched many tank pretty hard for a variety of reasons.

I mean the main post of this thread is calling me out on my stance on Linux by mis conflating what I proposed and creating a sort of a strawman by referring to me as "someone" and putting words into my mouth.

Let me fill you in on something. I shouldn't but, I will.

Some of the crap that happens here gets filtered into our private section on our team forum. As we discuss some of this (I mostly read it) it seems that turmoil trickles down to my team from here. We analyze it and do the best to work with what changes are made, discussion of possible changes and other such matters. The problem is people take stuff personal. Even down to my team members..... What you guys do and say effects teams all the way down to individual members.

So HWBot does it's best. As a whole. As a team. You guys really need to focus on positive even with the roughest of issues.

It's Linux. You're going to have what.... maybe 1-5% of submissions on this Operating system? Will it really need to be an issue how it's moderated? By the way, that would be about the same percentage of cheaters, if not less than 1% at this point.

So, don't take it personal. It's not your fault entirely. You can't MAKE somebody leave over something as silly as a conversation over an operating system. I find it hard to believe. In fact, I'd bet he's been thinking on leaving for quite some time now. Just needed a scape goat. Perhaps you was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Leeg is a great guy, but saying that Linux is impossibly hard to moderate is silly. If a score is out of line then demand an acronis image of the OS, it's not like the records are set on more than 3 boards anyways. If user won't provide their tweaks to a mod they're cheating and the result is blocked. Ez pz. But that's not the reason for blocking Linux that I read in the conversation that this thread is about.

The reason for blocking Linux is a mod personally didn't want to have to do research on Linux os to be able to make competitive results before somebody else does. Or at least that's the way that mods comments read to me.

Now it is being claimed that the reason for blocking linux is that as a mod you don't want to be looking at a result wondering if it's legit, which is a legitimate complaint although Imho its solved by requiring a system image from questionable results.

Anyways it doesn't matter what I say here cause the members of this thread have predecided that I'm a cock. I'm sad to have apparently contributed to leeg leaving, he's a great mod who really cared and that seems to have been his downfall. He cared enough to let the job get to him and there's far too much abuse in the job unfortunately from those like me and from the many. Way too many people getting pissed off when their win 10 results get removed despite never being allowed within the rules, or their cine score with the render is removed, etc. Definitely far too thankless a job.

I don't think you're a "cock"... Don't even really know you man. So..... Don't beat yourself up.

Agreed he does nothing at all. /Thread

    /geekbench

    /keep geekbench

    /remove points

    /change leagues.

/keep rankings based on cooling (Not cheating???)

    /keeping overclocking and benchmarking simple.

Let's really just complicate the shit out of it so people get tired of baby sitting and leave.

I don't post here much, but when I do, I intend to impact some thoughts.

    --------

Lest we forget, It wasn't Legacy benchmarking when HWBot opened.  Perhaps we are trying too hard at this.

W10 benching in 10 years is going to be Legacy also. Hope you guys realize this and just get on with simplicity instead of making it all a fuck show.

In on five star thread ??? Alby put on the speed metal and power through like only you know how.

Hate to see what happens to this place if you did leave.

Nothing. It will continue to struggle through the issues as it has for many years.....

  10. I have no idea who Alby really is. Never have seen him, or spoken with him.....

Is he leaving? Would that even be a bad thing? Is it going to affect my daily OC life?

Some gratitude needs to be self proclaimed. If you're not happy with what you do and how you do it, by all means leave that situation to better yourself. Never stay someplace if your not happy. And I mean you want like 80% plus happiness, 20% aggravation is plenty to deal with. 100% happy is near impossible for any situation at HWBot... Have seen this through all the years.

But for the lack of what I do know, good job Alby. Thanks for everything you've done for lots of people. It means a lot to them for sure. Pat yourself on the back when nobody else seems to want to. It's what you see in the mirror that should guide your happiness. Stay, leave..... Guy like me may never know the difference.

    GLHF!!!

  11. Cut the benches, keep the points.

Put points in category, "old benches no longer supported ranks" so people can keep their hard earned work on their carrier rankings.

This place has pulled so many points from removing benchmarks and wonder why participation goes downhill every time this happens.

If you put a benchmark on here, it should earn points no matter what. If this is strictly a data base, remove ALL points, should have never been a thing....But we are here to compete.

Took all the CatZilla points away from people. Shame on this place for that. That kind of deal is just straight bullshit. (sorry for my honesty here)

All the benches that don't give points, just remove them. Useless wasting all that space on the servers. Or, put the servers to use and award points.

The bios only allows to set up to 300 fsb. Set fsb only gave us 5ish fsb, likely due to memory timings trained not allowing much movement. Am currently researching to see if there's a way to get more fsb, or if I can figure out modding this bios. So far the only modded bios I've found for the board gives the 5:4 memory divider instead of the 3:2 divider that you get forced with 1066 fsb chips. If you know of a bios that gives me what I want or know about modding AMI bios I would always appreciate :)  Also looking to get it to force yorkies to post at 266 fsb so I don't need to pad mod them to get a post.

Sorry I'm not into Intel processors. So any suggestions I have would be to buy a better motherboard....

  13. Trying to DL 482MB HWBOT X254 benchmark. It's pretty slow, over 20 minutes to receive entire file.

    My dl speeds test ok?

@suzuki Thanks for the mention but I don't belong next to some of the big names of OC, I'm merely a hoarder, and I see there's less of those nowadays. I barely have any hardware left, but I will try and bench it before we part ways. Since I'm still a moderator, I will start by helping a bit on a daily basis. Also need a crash course on what's happened in the past 4 years :)

Hello! Hopefully we didn't offend you in some way to make you magically leave for seemingly no reason. If you needed information, you could have contacted one of our three team captains.

Be well, hope it all works out for you.....

    Jon
