please add socket3 in any round

Think not in this season.

TASOS I have a proposal for ROUND 5 - Socket 754 (2003) (No adapters allowed) add another limitation - only desktop cpu, not mobile S754. In Old School is Best School [2016] in stage 5 was S754 and majority used mobile version of cpu, lets this year desktop. Mobile for mobile (notebooks) desktop for desktop motherboards. As my personal opintion I do not like when used mobile version of cpu on non specialised motherboards it is "not usual usage".

...replacing the 256 would be a great idea from the Budget standpoint... It is actually the only thing i haven't bought allready because of the insane prices people are charging in eBay...

What I think about the Old school. I have the main association of OSBS with the legendary Hardware, which GF256 is. MX400/200 is generally the next generation at 1-st, moreover, it is poor quality of GF2U - another words trash in my opinion. When last years, among other stages of OSBS, there was a 3DFX v5 video card competition, then all still participated, although at a cost it is obviously more expensive than pair GF256. As for me gf256 is the same rarest thing as mobile A64 S754 Newark core, in our region it is hard to find 99% of HW.

I do not understand the idea and the concept of last two modern OSBS at all, in the first championships it was, and now the administration gave this project to the mercy, but as a result, some opinions are listened to and executed by them, others are not taken into account at all. What is the main aidea? Overclocking for overclocking or overclocking interesting HW? It wil lbe better then OSBS expert like Antinomy and other from administration which is not perticipated in OSBS would come up with interesting and well-structured tasks that would become available for everyone and showed to all in one time.

Why must changes happen right before the comp every single time. Months were given for everybody's input and only a few respond. Now when everything is finalized people crawl out of the woodwork to complain or want changes.

Too late.

Comp is finalized. You had your chance.

Thank you Tasos for organizing this.

General Question:

Question about description of the 1-st stage. "Round 1 of the Old School is Best School contest is all about the classic Socket 7 which harks back to 1997. This means benching with Intel P5 Pentium MMX and AMD K6 architecture processors. All CPUs however must be manufactured using the 0.35 micron fabrication process."

As i rigth understand, for P5 Microarchitecture fits processors Pentium NON MMX and with MMX on tech process 0.35 mc. Need to fix description "with Intel P5 Pentium MMX and" -> "with any Intel P5 Pentium and" to prevent misunderstanding.

Hi Max ... happy new year !!!

No need to edit any kind of description in that stage.

That stage is exactly what you read.

It's a 0.35 cpu "battle" between Intel Pentium MMX vs AMD K6 (model 6)

That simple.

I tried to produce a fair (as possible) stage-comparison between the two manufacturers.

Both same year

Both 0.35

Both MMX capable

Both with the same max cpu speed (233)

If i wanted to include earlier Intel cpu gen , i would have done so.

Get ready Max and tune your hardware.
