then you go for 6950X... nope maximum LGA20111 is the most fair

Not if it is in the rules "Xeon-i7 allowed up to max 6 cores"

An I7 5820k is banned of the challenge because of the motherboard wich use ddr4 ram ?
ddr3-ddr4 on both socket chipset x99-x79 are equal in speed with a slight advantage for the ddr3 in timing

release date x99= 2014 August

release date z97= 2014 May

There's a pretty siginifcant difference in the speed of ddr4 x99 vs x79 ddr3 tbh with ddr4 taking the advantage by a noticeable margin. In general x99 is much more a current gen intel cpu than x79 or z97. Leeg has given an inch with older xeons and now everyone is asking for a mile.

So to be clear 2011 xeon like E5 16x0 (4 and 6 cores variant) v1 or v2 are not allowed ? They are the same as regular I7 and they are a little bit cheaper ;)

Update on the rules:

Only Intel LGA 2011, LGA1366, LGA1156, LGA1155, LGA1150, LGA775, LGA771 or older single CPU sockets are allowed (no other server or ES hardware)

single Xeon CPUs allowed up to max of 6 cores!!!

So yes you can use your Sandy-E based Xeon CPUs on LGA2011

@Speedy22 The DDR4 2011-3 platform is out of the question as its way better per IPC than X79... with BW-E CPUS and BDIE memory, 3400C11 is perfectly possible...
