hammer strike

Featured Replies

so i didnt put on screenshots of firestrike run 4years ago and got notise that the result will be removed, no matter, its ok, but this fueled my oc ocd

lets see if i can beat 3000 with my new psu, i highly doubt, but gotta see

https://hwbot.org/benchmarks/3dmark_-_fire_strike/submissions/4682317

(below is run from 4years ago)

I scored 2 851 in Fire Strike

AMD Ryzen 7 3700U, AMD Radeon Vega 10 Mobile x 1, 16384 MB, 64-bit Windows 10}

currently nothing is optimized, last runs i did with warzone tuned settings, but i havent played the game for a while and new windows install is far from optimized, and so is all other settings

just a test run resulted 2590

nime.png

first thing first, the cooling. currently running silent mode, half power half the funs

fans.png

the cooling system: bottom plate removed from laptop and 30€ laptop cooler from closest supermarket

cooling and battery.png

you can see what running 65W (oem is 35W) charger constantly for couple years with Ryzen Controller does to a battery...

but its the crucial part of getting it run, the power dips from 35W resets power settings and requires constant re-apply from controller

current power supply

charger.png

thats POWEROAK K2 185WH / 50000MAH LAPTOP POWER BANK

only 50000mah power bank that does what it promises, atleast used to be

it has 20V output, so should give tad more juice, but we will see

test run for temps after fixing laptop cooler fans

10C less peak

onwards to oc with helles ryzen test 0.03 and maybe tweak ryzen controller....

(admins, i couldnt make my hwbot account work here in forums, no idea why, so this is my 2ndary. i hope i broke every rule and be banned or something)

im guessing gpu is throttling too much, another key to get good score is to maintain gpu speed as high as possible, even if the cpu is required to clock lower

gotta do some inspecting on 3dmark logs, but i bet thats the case, 4ghz and upping amps from rz did pretty much nothing it seems

well thats wierd, gpu stays high, score is still low

weird.png

i dont even know what gfx settings i have in amd control panel, maybe the missing 150 is there,

or maybe more watts for cpu

  • Author

yea, there it was, turning off tessalation instead of default amd optimized yielded 142

2842.png

still no were near 3000

  • Author

new record!

newrec.png

3000 looks possible after all, and didnt even need to resort for driver roulet

52A in rc and bit more juice for vcore with 3.2ghz

  • Author

so validated score of 2782 with am optimized tessalation,... 3000 seems kinda far away now

I scored 2 782 in Fire Strike

AMD Ryzen 7 3700U, AMD Radeon Vega 10 Mobile x 1, 16384 MB, 64-bit Windows 10}

i bet my drivers from 4years ago were better "optimized"

lets see what more amps does

  • Author

2800 ish, cant ramp amps beyond 58 59 or it results blackscreen

I scored 2 807 in Fire Strike

AMD Ryzen 7 3700U, AMD Radeon Vega 10 Mobile x 1, 16384 MB, 64-bit Windows 10}

and i just recalled what i did 4years ago, i sat my laptop on top of the aircleaner tower with its fan all the way 11

think i had 67amps then

i bet 3000 would be easy with desktop cpu cooler, ive only seen this gpu do 1400 with one on youtube
mine never goes beyond 1220 or so

sadly that aircleaner is no avail

... i bet vacuum cleaner would do the trick, but its tad late to vacuum, and i cant stand vacuum cleaners

optimizing vcore might yield few points

maybe even without oc from ryzen test

  • Author

valid record and this was without ryzen test, i bet the vcore was way too high

I scored 2 862 in Fire Strike

AMD Ryzen 7 3700U, AMD Radeon Vega 10 Mobile x 1, 16384 MB, 64-bit Windows 10}

  • Author

looks like i forgot to adjust power settings, should be at 99 for the ryzen test to work for cpu frequenzies

image.png

still made my pb???

  • Author

back to 2800 ish, not sure if gpu score is tad higher, but cpu lower

image.png

optimizing cpu might get me to valid 2900

  • Author

new valid record with lower vcore, but this is about same as no ryzen test running at all

think i used to have to fight to keep cpu low during high gpu load, but now i dont

wonder whats going on

image.png

external display might save few watts from the system, but looks like its still just fight against the heat, not the lack of power

tho i did manage to get same and better score than i did 4 years ago without frying amount of amps

on this run cpu never peaked to 4ghz, likely due undervolting

  • Author

yea nah, i guess i boiled the cpu paste by now, no matter what i do im not getting 2800 anymore

was planning the do final run at the window, its 16C (60F) outside, but its no use if that paste is a cracker

  • Author

cba to check the paste, i did a run at the open window and it was 2840 without ryzen test, with new paste i might get closer to 2900, but meh

also really cant be arsed to do stripped windows run which should give couple more

  • Author

think it was SMU(?) driver from amd that was required for the ryzen test to work correctly, altho it was applied on one run where cores were limited to 2300, but still dropping to 1300-1400 on gpu load. which is better for most games, and disabling it for cpu taxing games

think i got oc hunger satisfied, new pb and all

if anyone with ryzen laptop is reading this, the battery will eventually swell, so using higher settings 24/7 is better done without battery attached, biggest issue with laptops is heat transfer, so removing backplate and or adding cooler below is way to go

best results will be with really heavy desktop cpu cooler, 1kg or so on top of the cpu while laptop is tugged into closet upside down while using external display and wireless keyb and maybe mouse too

easy and fairly cheap to do.

for every day use, under 40 amps is just fine, but some games like warzone really demands lot more, 58A is borderline unstable for me currently, can run some benchies but not for long run

  • Author

it didnt stay on well anymore, so had to check that paste

liquid.png

mx4...

it had been liquified, didnt know that was even possible, some of it were hardened, but mostly almost water like

so why not "polish" the copper while at it, some 10w35 oil and 2000grit sandpaper, uneven surface and no idea what im doing

image.png

almost got those vertical lines out from it, but that dent was too much for my skills

final result where i decided it was enough "polished":

polish.png

ive never seen idle temps this low, that i remember

idle.png
