The AMD 5600X should have two categories on hwbot. Stepping 0 and 2

Featured Replies

Hello,

As someone who tried to get some good scores with the first generation of 5600X's it surprised me that AMD came out with exactly the same CPU on a better production process and that those CPU's were just beating the older scores like crazy, and that HWBOT didn't use the opportunity to differentiate between stepping 0 and 2 CPU's from the moment stepping 2 CPU's started to come in. HWBOT could have made all scores before a certain date stepping 0 scores. All the scores after that would have had to be categorized by stepping. Now that the damage is done, can HWBOT undo it, and create 2 separate 5600X's so that the playing field is level again?

I know this would be a huge undertaking but it might be able to do this semi automatically by some software that can read the CPU-z tab in the screenshots.

Thanks for reading this comment. Thanks for the effort in advance, and for providing this platform!

Stepping was never a reason to differentiate. Windsor F2 vs F3, wolfdale c1 vs e0, pentium 3 a1 vs d0 - all these have dramatic difference in overclockability yet are included into same hw category.

HWBOT is based on hardware categories of the same type.

It would take an enormous amount of effort and programing and moderation ... to split each hardware category into cpu steppings , cpu revisions , chipset stepping , board revisions , ram revisions ... and so on.

You aim to participate into a certain hardware category , you do your research and pick the right parts for it.

You just find out that those B2 are overclocking way better , and you feel uncomfortable ... i can understand you.
But , that's the way it is.
