Apart from using 4x of the eVGA GTX285 Classified, is there any other way to run quad-SLI on the '285?

Are the rest of the GTX2xx completely limited to tri?

4x 285 Classified should be recognized as 2x 295 and that's why they run in quad SLI as far as I know.

It might be necessary to flip a bios switch or so. Can't really remember.

Yea. I have two of these cards and they have a switch with 285 and 295 BIOS. For Quad SLI you have to switch to the 295 BIOS.

So, is a device ID trick the only way? I remember how eVGA did it, I was hoping that modern driver support had changed things or another vendor had come up with a solution

 

RANDOM idea.... what if the 285 ID association was changed in the driver to match the GTX295? What would happen if four cards are installed? (I don't have 4 cards here....)

 

OR......Could the eVGA tweaked BIOS be flashed to other cards?

I don't think so because it's a custom PCB design.

Driver wise it will not work but a pcb mod can work (a la GeForce>Quadro)
