<p>
	I picked up an R9 290X on ebay that seems to do pretty well on that stock airplane blower, up to 1250MHz on core but at 100% fan speed it goes up to 80 degrees and when it goes up there it starts to artifact a lot.
</p>

<p>
	I have a single stage I want to smack on it, but I cannot for the life of me find the PT1 and PT3 BIOS anywhere on the internet. Back when they came out I was running two of these with water cooling and PT1 BIOS and it helped a lot, og gave me full voltage control. With stock BIOS I can only go to +100mv on core and AUX, I remember these BIOS being ASUS vendor and their program could get full voltage control and bigger range on core/memory clock. Card does 1625MHz memory which is maxed out on stock BIOS with afterburner.
</p>

<p>
	It has Hynix RAM.
</p>

<p>
	Does anyone have these BIOS, or can point me in a direction where I can get more voltage control? I do not have the hardware to make a mod on it, and I need it by the weekend as I have a livestream coming up.
</p>

<p>
	Thanks guys!

	I'm trying to fully OC a Fury to run Superposition, but as I expected there's no means of controlling the memory speed with either Afterburner or Trixx on the Adrenalin driver. Trixx will let you move the slider and apply it, but it only changes the <em>reported</em> memory speed (I set it to 700 and nothing happened whatsoever). I want Afterburner to have memory OC because it allows 25mV more on core than Trixx. I know memory OC will not work at all on the last 28nm GCN driver, so I've been trying on Crimson 17.11.1 and 16.12.2 per what I've seen in other forum posts. However, Afterburner still has no memory control, and furthermore Superposition can't launch with these drivers, though Trixx can actually increase memory speed. Can anyone enlighten me as to how people have Furies with memory OC on the Superposition leaderboards?

<p>
	Hola everyone  , as you already know this brand new architecture of AMD RDNA 2 has come in the form of RX 6xxx video cards. I can really say this video cards are fast and can trade blows with the rtx 3090 / rtx 3080 and rtx 3070 as i have tested myself. " Monster in all Firestrike benchmarks - FS/FSE/FSU " and nvidia cannot touch it there.
</p>

<p>
	 In the wake of this new architecture some things have change in the amd drivers and in the rx 6xxx Bios too. As it stands right now amd has an artificial lock on the max clocks on the core and memory as you already might heard or know. This is the downside of this new video cards but hopefully not for long <img alt=";)" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="https://community.hwbot.org/uploads/emoticons/wink.png" srcset="https://community.hwbot.org/uploads/emoticons/wink@2x.png 2x" title=";)" width="20" /> as there will be software to change this , right now is in Beta testing <span class="ipsEmoji">?</span>
</p>

<p>
	 Thanks to some in depth investigation , work and mods found by <a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://community.hwbot.org/profile/12533-splave/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="12533" href="https://community.hwbot.org/profile/12533-splave/" rel="">@Splave</a> and <a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://community.hwbot.org/profile/132-elmor/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="132" href="https://community.hwbot.org/profile/132-elmor/" rel="">@elmor</a> you can now tweak this video cards using the Elmor's evc2 controller to get you higher power limit in order to maintain a more constant core clocks as the clocks on this video cards are always dynamic and not static , hence with the mod you can sustain for longer core clocks *example 2750Mhz fluctuates and bounce between 2600Mhz~2750Mhz during benchmarks because of power limit , but if moded it will sustain those core clocks closer to 2700/2750Mhz thru the benchmark , hence giving you a better score overall. Most of the time higher clocks do not mean a better score ( You need to find the higher average sustain clocks during the run of the benchmark , look at FM/UL systeminfo monitoring tool report once you have sub this to your online account at FM/UL , or just use GPU-Z monitoring and logging tool , that will give an idea of the real clocks you are able to sustain , stable , highest average ,  not fluctuating much clocks is what you should be looking for and not the highest peak clocks  )  , there has to be a balance between clocks , power limit and voltage , so keep this in mind *example 2850Mhz core clock can score lower than 2750Mhz  same with the memory , 2150Mhz memory clocks can score lower than 2130Mhz *. Find the balance , sweet spot and tweak your clocks accordingly to the score on your benchmarks ( adjust as needed , play with it , that's where the fun is <span class="ipsEmoji">?</span>  ) .
</p>

<p>
	*** Tip - When in the overclocking section of the driver and you punch your max core clocks you will also need to adjust the minimum core clocks  around 100~200Mhz lower than the max core clocks  ( example 2700Mhz max / 2500Mhz min ) , adjust voltages as well for the minimum clocks.***
</p>

	*** <strong>Good news , there is light at the end of the Tunnel</strong> *** <span class="ipsEmoji">?</span> , as i just found out the AMD - Red Bios Editor guys are actively working on a fully, working Bios editor software to change everything possible in the Bios eg. ( clocks , power limits , voltages , etc... ) , at Igor's Lab ,  here - read post # 434 - <a href="https://www.igorslab.de/community/threads/red-bios-editor-und-morepowertool-bios-eintr%C3%A4ge-anpassen-optimieren-und-noch-stabiler-%C3%BCbertakten-navi-unlimited.2415/page-22#post-102478" rel="external nofollow">https://www.igorslab.de/community/threads/red-bios-editor-und-morepowertool-bios-einträge-anpassen-optimieren-und-noch-stabiler-übertakten-navi-unlimited.2415/page-22#post-102478</a> As it stands right now they are still looking for volunteers to test this software. ( Let's see once this software is fully working who will be the first one to break a core clock of <strong>4000Mhz</strong> , throwing that challenge out there as to what might be possible in the near future <span class="ipsEmoji">?</span> and who will be the first one ...
</p>

<p>
	About morepowertool on Igor's lab - download here the latest version -  <a href="https://www.igorslab.de/red-bios-editor-bios-eintraege-anpassen-optimieren-und-noch-stabiler-uebertakten-navi-unlimited/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.igorslab.de/red-bios-editor-bios-eintraege-anpassen-optimieren-und-noch-stabiler-uebertakten-navi-unlimited/</a>  The software seems to work sometimes but many times you will find you get stuck at 500/500Mhz clocks due to amd protections , if you don't refresh/re-install the driver it will start acting very weird and sometimes bsod wish leads to a broken OS <span class="ipsEmoji">?</span> , it happened to me and i went thru 3 windows installations on one day , (  If that happens to you it is needed to re-install drivers and start all over again as it did happen to me too many times while testing mpt on my 6900xt. )
</p>

<p>
	 If you get unstable settings on mpt and cannot boot to the OS ( black screen ) you will need to enter in safe boot into the OS and revert the changes there in mpt and uninstall the driver , then and only then you will recover from bad settings. ( I tested this for many days myself ). Morepowertool is a great software to use but you got to take it easy and work your way up to find for yourself stable settings. I was able to make a profile of an mpt file for my 6900xt working at 1.35v with 550 power limit , it did work only once, after a crash during a benchmark run the system reboot itself and i was greed it with the infamous black screen and unbootable system. Never again i have managed to replicate those settings as AMD driver seems like it takes control of it 99.99% of the time. If you get a reboot while running high clocks in the middle of the benchmark , run lower core clocks and lower v.core , revert back to stable settings as this has happen to <a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://community.hwbot.org/profile/12533-splave/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="12533" href="https://community.hwbot.org/profile/12533-splave/" rel="">@Splave</a> and myself ( The driver freaks out sometimes and goes into some kind of protection mode and make the system reboot )
</p>

<p>
	I want to give credit to <a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://community.hwbot.org/profile/9620-dancop/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="9620" href="https://community.hwbot.org/profile/9620-dancop/" rel="">@Dancop</a> and @OGS for confirming the low cold bug and cold boot bug of this RX 6xxx cards , every card is different so it will behave differently on sub-zero temps ( For those that remember it's the same CB-CBB issue like the old Radeon's HD 6970-HD 6950 TeraScale VLIW4 Architecture all over again ). My own 6900xt has a very low cold boot bug around -46~50c. Other cards have more or less this same problem with cold boot bug give or take 10~20c. Cold bug as reported by Dancop and OGS is around -100c give or take.
</p>

<p>
	*Weird mpt behavior and settings* - This were the settings that worked for me only once with mpt and i have not been able to replicate this ( not sure if it was working 100% either ) - I used the AMD driver overclocking software with this settings for overclocking the graphics card , v.core 1.20v / 550 power limit 2850Mhz core clock. As it stands right now the most common overclocking software used for AMD cards do not work yet , ie ( msi ab , OverdriveNTool , etc... ) . Some of the motherboard vendors have working overclocking software designed specifically for their own brands that somehow works but not fully. It is highly recommended to use the built in overclocking software in the driver as it is the best to use at this moment. Bare in mind this is a complete new architecture and there is only 3 drivers available for this cards , hence i expect for things to get much better once more drivers are out from AMD and we have Bios flashing software available as well as a more stable morepowertool.  The Red Bios Rebellion Team at Igor's lab is working hard to get this software working as soon as possible.
</p>

	 If you have something to add , share experiences , tips , tweaks and tricks i encourage you please post it here on this thread. It is a challenge to find all this alone hence sharing is the only way to help each other.

	Hi All,<br />

<p>
	....I managed to  OC my 6900XT to 2260MHZ. Anything above that seems to cause slight instability. I know Morepowertool unlocks the power limit for the GPU but does anyone know how I can get more power to the Vram?
</p>

	Here is a recording of my 6900Xt with OC Vram:

	Hello, I have an old RX 570 4GB that runs worst than it used to do... But only on the memory. I had my memory just fine a 2250 MHz (max for the bios).  And now about one week later it does not even run 1850 MHz. But the thing is that under that 1 week I bios flashed it back to the stock bios (because it got bricked) and I also updated the drivers under that time. So I started with using old drivers and it would still not work on 1850 MHz. So now I wonder if there could be something with the bios flash that made it worse. Any ideas what I should do?

<p>
	Ok so I just did my very first LN2 session with the RX 480. So I figured I'd share my expirience for anyone else intrested as well as start a generally discussion about pushing the RX 480 on cold.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Stuff to be aware of</strong>
</p>

<p>
	My reference card didn't have either CB or CBB so I ended up running full pot. However I do suspect that my mounting might have failed at some point in time because I was clocking a little low and because I couldn't use the backplate for my Raptor 4 due to it conflicting with my extra cap placements.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	If you can get into BIOS but not into windows then you need to go into safe mode and reinstall the drivers because Wattman remembers your last unstable OC and is trying to boot with it(praise AMD! /s). If you have an SSD and a clean setup this should not take too long.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	- Stuff to use to overclock.
</p>

<p>
	As of right now Elmor's LN2 BIOS + GPU Tweak II is the best for voltage control and clocks since it goes to 4Ghz core and 18Ghz mem as well as 2V on the core(not that you will ever reach any of those). At 150% power limit the BIOS gives you a 450W power limit.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	- Display going black when running benches.
</p>

<p>
	The card has black screen issues. If you push it really low(like say the -178C that I ran at according to my dodgy equipment) with high core voltage you will lose the display. The benchmark is still running you just can't see it. In theory this should be solvable by putting more volts on the .95V rail but I can't figure out how to Vmod it yet. Once I do I will test. To see if the card is running you when blackscreened you need to use a DMM on either Vcore or Vmem as either will show the impact of 3D load. For me mem would hit 1.571V under load and idled at 1.551V.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>Overclocking</strong>
</p>

<p>
	- Core overclocking
</p>

<p>
	I could run windowed 3DM firestrike 1280x1050(IIRC not sure about the resolution) at 1600mhz however my best pass of Firestrike proper was only 1550mhz. Neither more Vcore(tested 1.4-1.6V) nor cold did anything. I suspect I may have just had a bad mount or something which caused these problems. Once I bench again I will know for sure. It is also possible my card just doesn't scale at all.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	- Memory overclocking
</p>

<p>
	The Samsung memory on my 8GB reference card seems to absolutely hate cold and voltage. I modded my card for 1.72V mem. That didn't help OCing at all. I also tried more VCCI(the voltage in the memory section of Wattman) that also didn't help either and led to the second driver reinstall I did in my session with the card.
</p>

<p>
	The card could pass benches at 9Ghz mem on ambient. With the PCB freezeing through I was fighting for 8.5Ghz so I guess the RAM didn't like the cold either. The 4GB Hynix cards are probably a better choice for pure clock speed on cold IDK about performance someone would need to do a test.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	BTW here's the memory voltage mod for reference PCB cards(it should be compatible with all card using the GS7256 controller):

	Hello! <br /><br />
	I have a few old GPUs lying around and i decided to get the soldering iron and blow up some of them <img alt=":D" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="https://community.hwbot.org/uploads/emoticons/biggrin.png" srcset="https://community.hwbot.org/uploads/emoticons/biggrin@2x.png 2x" title=":D" width="20" /><br /><br />
	I always wanted to learn to overclock GPUs. I started with the Shunt mods, then learned to solder and look at datasheets, but now I found out my worst enemy - over voltage protection <img alt=":D" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="https://community.hwbot.org/uploads/emoticons/biggrin.png" srcset="https://community.hwbot.org/uploads/emoticons/biggrin@2x.png 2x" title=":D" width="20" /><br /><br />
	I built myself a chiller, however i am unable to use it since this OVP hits me. It hit me on my 770 (managed to hit 1.299 volts MAX) and now I am fighting with this 4870. Can't go over 1.499v. <br /><br />
	I would really appreciate some experienced old school guys to explain how the OVP works on this thing. (or in general) I was reading the datasheet of the VT1165MF and the NCPsomething of the 770, but i was not able to understand how the over voltage controller circuit manages the maximum threshold. <br /><br />
	All of the information i find on the internet is old threads with missing photos and i cannot even trace the pins with my multimeter... <br /><br />
	I have basic electronics knowledge, so do not be afraid to be prompt. <br /><br />
	Any help would be appreciated, and since i used to run a small GPU refurbishing business - i have a lot of old GPUs laying around - might as well send one out or sell at a really low price as a gift to someone.<br /><br />
	I plan on pushing this card to the limit and might as well share my experience here <img alt=":)" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="https://community.hwbot.org/uploads/emoticons/smile.png" srcset="https://community.hwbot.org/uploads/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":)" width="20" /><br /><br />
	Thank you, guys.

<p>
	I have recently gotten into doing R9 290/290X 3D benching and have run into a couple of issues.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I have a couple of Sapphire Tri-X OC 290s that are able to run 1300/1600 on water, but AB/ABX/Trixx will not allow me to set higher than 1300 on the core. Memory can go up to 1645 iirc.
</p>

<p>
	I have not tried BIOS flashing as of yet, or tried to unlock cores as I was hoping to get the software side of things solved first. I have a DICE/LN2 session coming up after Christmas and I'd love to be able to push these cards past 1300/1600 and do some benching.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I have heard that there may be a way to modify the BIOS to push past the limit that AB/ABX/Trixx set, but I have not done this as I'm not sure what to modify in the BIOS and don't want to screw anything up.
</p>

<p>
	I know some people have had some trouble getting hybrid crossfire in this and similar weird unofficial configurations to work... myself included!  I want to share my steps that have led to it enabling itself while they're fresh in my mind.  Many of these might be totally irrelevant, in fact hopefully most of them are, but this is still black magic so anything that could possibly have affected it is included.
</p>

<p>
	Hardware is A10-6800K, Asrock FM2A88M Extreme4+ and Sapphire Ultimate passive 7750.  Monitor is some BenQ thing connected with a passive HDMI to DVI adapter cable (HDMI on the system, DVI on the monitor).  If any hardware other than that affects it, I'm quitting OC.
</p>

<ol><li>
		Set system up with iGPU, no 7750
	</li>
	<li>
		Configure bios with PCIe graphics as default but iGPU explicitly enabled, share memory set to 2GB
	</li>
	<li>
		Make fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit SP1, using a flash drive that was created with the asrock USB driver injection tool for AM4
	</li>
	<li>
		Install Catalyst Omega 14.12 (downloaded from guru3d, filename "[Guru3D]-amd-catalyst-omega-14.12-with-dotnet45-win7-64bit.exe").  Custom install was chosen and everything but the driver, CCC and mandatory components (I think only the install manager was mandatory) was unchecked.
	</li>
	<li>
		Install 3DMark06, CPU-Z 1.90.1 and GPU-Z 2.27.0
	</li>
	<li>
		Run 3DMark06 4 times testing different memory settings
	</li>
	<li>
		Notice a weird drop in CPU score, install furmark and copy portable prime95 and hwinfo64 onto system to check if there's power/thermal throttling
	</li>
	<li>
		Try to start hwinfo64, it complains it needs KB3033929 for driver signing, install KB3033929.
	</li>
	<li>
		Spend 2 hours banging your head against the wall trying to figure out why CPU score keeps getting worse (<strong>THIS STEP IS MANDATORY</strong>)
	</li>
	<li>
		Set up k15tk (it needs winring0 dlls so I unzip throttlestop 8.70.6 then move the k15tk exe into the throttlestop folder), try to use that to force max pstate
	</li>
	<li>
		Realise that asrock boards need turbo core enabled and no it won't interfere with your oc, re-enable turbo core
	</li>
	<li>
		Do a couple more 3DMark06 runs
	</li>
	<li>
		Set memory back to stock, power off system
	</li>
	<li>
		Install 7750, move HDMI cable from motherboard output to 7750
	</li>
	<li>
		Power system on.  Open the detailed 'found new hardware' information, wait patiently for it to all run and finish.
	</li>
	<li>
		Reboot, wait patiently again
	</li>
	<li>
		CCC pops up after a minute or two with dual graphics configuration
	</li>
</ol><p>
	Hopefully this helps.  I imagine it can probably be boiled down to:
</p>

<ol><li>
		Install OS and drivers on iGPU
	</li>
	<li>
		Spend 2 hours banging your head against the wall trying to figure out why CPU score keeps getting worse
	</li>
	<li>
		Install 7750
	</li>
	<li>
		Let windows auto-install 7750 drivers, be patient
	</li>
</ol><p>
	It's also worth highlighting that nowhere in this steps is any OS stripping/optimisation.  That comes later...
</p>

<p><strong>SOFTWARE GPUTWEAK 2 TIPS:</strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p>1. After flashing LN2 bios you gain VGPU regulation up to 2.0v <img src="https://community.hwbot.org/uploads/emoticons/wink.png" alt=";)" data-emoticon="" srcset="https://community.hwbot.org/uploads/emoticons/wink@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" loading="lazy"></p>

<p><img src="http://www.oclab.pl/art/xa//EXTREMEOC/furystrix/foto/guide/1.png" alt="1.png" loading="lazy"></p>
<p> </p>
<p>2. Don't forget to use "Overclocking range enhancement" if you want to have memory frequency control. </p>
<p> </p>
<p><img src="http://www.oclab.pl/art/xa//EXTREMEOC/furystrix/foto/guide/2.png" alt="2.png" loading="lazy"></p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>LN2 TIPS:</strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p>1. Use HDMI port (I used it with HDMI - DVI adapter), on my card screen is blinking on DVI after 0.95v rail mod. HDMI port is fine even at -180*C.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>2.  If you can't enter OS at certain temperature - lower 0,95v rail  (E.G. from 1,25v to 1,2v). </p>
<p> </p>
<p>3. 0.95v rail set to 1,25v should be enough for -120 -160*C range. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>4. With lower temperature (-50*C and more) you have to use higher VGPU to boot into OS! I had to use around 1.35-1.5v (stress) to boot into OS, it will be around 1.1-1.15v idle (stock is 0.9v in idle). </p>
<p> </p>
<p>5. You can set by trimpot/hotwire VGPU OS "boot" voltage and later raise it by GPUTWEAK - it works. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>6. 1000 MHz HBM (500 MHz is stock) is current maximum frequency which we can set. For that I had to use 1.55v VMEM (stock is 1.35v). Note that on some cards score might be lower with too high memories. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>7. My card doesn't have CB or CBB. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>8. PWM is strong, 1.6+ VGPU wasn't a problem with a delta fan on it. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>9. Use stock PLL (AUX - VDDCI). Higher gave me nothing (stock is around 1.0v), 1.2+ can kill your GPU. </p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>BIOSES AND SOFTWARE</strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p>Stock Fury and Fury X bios have COLD SLOW bug below 0*C (3D mode doesn't work), you need a special BIOS with a fix. For now I used Fury X (ref) LN2 fixed BIOS but it works on Fury Strix cards. </p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>UPDATE:</strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p>Note that LN2 Fixed bioses have disabled monitoring of temperature, you can flash it and try on air and it won't kill you card, but you will be playing "blind". </p>

<p>Quick test just to check all the mods and behaviour on cold. From what I know some cards should easy do around 1600 MHz. Most likely limit will be similar to R9 290X cards .</p>

<p>Card is a great fun. Very easy, issues free. Everything works, software (GPUTWEAK 2), drivers and so on. Thx Asus for that great card! I hope we will see a lot of results on it <img src="https://community.hwbot.org/uploads/emoticons/smile.png" alt=":)" data-emoticon="" srcset="https://community.hwbot.org/uploads/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" loading="lazy"></p>

<p>
	Hello everyone..!<br /><br />
	I just want to ask simple &amp; noob question,
</p>

<p>
	Is there any workaround to make LOD tweaks working on AMD card for DX10 and higher?<br />
	Have spent hours to search &amp; trying. <img alt="xD" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="https://community.hwbot.org/uploads/emoticons/laugh.png" srcset="https://community.hwbot.org/uploads/emoticons/laugh@2x.png 2x" title="xD" width="20" /><br /><br />

<p>Guys, maybe you can help out here. </p>
<p>I was running a few benchmarks after I got my RX 480 8GB (reference) to see the performance compared to people who had the same card. </p>
<p>* </p>
<p>But I am getting lower scores than people with the same card (using the same clocks), as an example, this is what I got running Vantage at 1415/2150MHz: </p>
<p> </p>
<p><a href="http://www.3dmark.com/3dmv/5569309" rel="external nofollow">AMD Radeon RX 480 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3930K Processor,ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. SABERTOOTH X79</a></p>
<p> </p>
<p>* </p>
<p>A guy on hwbot using the just about the same clocks got over 52k graphics score! </p>
<p> </p>
<p>That is a difference of 7000 points in the graphics score! </p>
<p>* </p>
<p>I even made a fresh installation of W7 and W10 but it didn't help. I tried using the same drivers as him but it didn't make a difference. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>This lack of performance is in every benchmark I made, including 3DM 11 and Firestrike. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>What could be wrong? </p>
<p>Thank's in advance</p>
