I-7 14700K + Asus ROG Maximus Dark Hero Z790 throttling!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am looking for some help and guidance please. I am not an expert in OC - far away from that, however my I-7 14700K seems to be throttling while running IXT. Simple 5 minutes stress test and it's throttling on Current/EDP + thermal throttling. I have run a stress test on AIDA Extreme, same thing. I have flashed the latest BIOS update for Asus ROG Maximus Dark Hero Z790 which did not help. I have CPU sitting under Corsair H150 RGB Liquid CPU Cooler - 360mm AIO and CPU package comes up as high to around 100C. I have tried on default Intel's settings in BIOS, supposedly the latest BIOS and microcode update should have resolved the issue but it didn't. Power delivered by Corsair RM1000x 80 PLUS Gold Fully Modular ATX 1000 Watt Power Supply, all being packed up into CORSAIR 3500X ARGB Mid-Tower ATX PC Case. GPU - ASUS GeForce RTX 4080 Super TUF Gaming OC (16GB GDDR6X/PCI Express 4.0/2640MHz/23000MHz) and CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000MHz.

I am considering replacing the thermal paste but before that happens, do you have any suggestions what should be checked first? I am concerned about lifespan of my newly purchased CPU. This machine was supposed to be purely for gaming and some entertainment but I see it chocking every now and then, especially when playing games on max details.

Any ideas please? Your help will be much appreciated.
