Humm... Best I can do on X58 is about high 7s @ 5.1Ghz.

Really think it depends on the CPU used.

A Hexcore I think will do better?

I never ran SuperPI on my 980x.

Nah, SuperPI is single threaded. So max MHz/lowest CAS will win.
