  1. Here's whats wrong:

    1) Transparent windows is too high for that CPU under WinXP - such scores are achievable in Vista with GPU-accelerated GUI, in XP it means some kind of unknown "tweak"

    2) Audio and video compression are unusually high - it looks like encoding settings were changed with powertoy or the encoder was replaced, which is forbidden.

BUT those i-rams are cool, i wish i had such storage setup.

    1) If transparent windows are too high for XP, how about he posts a run from e.g. Win7? Just to prove it's not system specific... Also, even if it is an "unknown tweak", isn't that what ALL people here have - tweaks unknown to others so they can get better times? Why would any tweak be forbidden simply by being unknown to others? Will you then call out Massman or Turrican because you don't know all their tweaks?

    2) Isn't ALL compression, along being CPU specific, also HDD specific? You compress something to a hard drive. So, faster hard drive = faster compression due to shorter write times. And wouldn't that then mean that by default you can get higher compression times from an array of i-Rams than you would with a plain SATA drive?

  2. has nothing to do with "smart". All to do with ownership and where the site is situated.

Ownership of what? If say Gigabyte wants to put up a banner, they'll look for a site that has most people from their target frequenting that site - and that is/was/will be HWBot. Doesn't matter if the site is situated in Denmark, since people from all over the world are here. And if they really want, any advertising campaing can be set so that it only targets people from a specific country - again, not ruling out HWBot.

  3. the international nature of the site might actually be a limiting factor if the sponsoring company puts the site in the basket of the local marketing budget.

HWBot owner -> Belgium -> Benelux budget -> tiny compared to US/UK/DE/TW

    :(

HWBot has year over year +94% more visitors

+125% more pageviews and +11% more new visitors

at this rate they'll surpass 2 million page views a month easily next year, which should give some good CPM for banner ads from small and big companies

they could also look into hiring an advertising company to do all advertising for them, thereby splitting the operational half (Massman, RB and others) from the monetary half (advertising)

making sure one doesn't influence the other.

Nobody smart would put HWBot into local category considering the variety of people here. But I think that their advertising strategy (or lack thereof) shoud be discussed here.

  4. See I am a partner of a local technology forum as well, and companies put their ads just for the marketing they get out of the forum, I am sure these companies will be more than willing to sponsor a decent amount just for the banners and with no say about what the rules of running the website of International caliber like hwbot are. Hell how does Madshrimps run??? I am sure there are ads from companies on that website??

Edit : I guess only one, :P, but then hwbot is much bigger.

I already suggested that and was told that isn't an option and they can't make enough money off that to keep up with site costs.

  5. It's all about money...

    Why are you so selfish?

Is existing of teams is only matter of points?

Is team should be JBOP (just bunch of people)?

U are satisfied to be in team only because that team have most points?

I am in my team because of the people, we all started off together, but many people switch teams just to get higher rankings. That's a fact. And I stand by what I said...

Try to imagine soccer team where all players are best attackers in the world, and all trying to score goal.

If we have match between that team and average noraml team who will win?

Noramal team have goalkeeper, defense players, midlefielders, attackers, coach.

Something like that we should have in our teams.

There's plenty of those, just look at Real Madrid (Los Galacticos) :P

In my country we have Basketball team with only "no name" young players, Partizan Belgrade. Last season was playing Euroleague semifinal (almost final), and two previous years Euroleague quarterfinal.

Money? Almost all teams in euroleague have at least one player who worth more than whole Partizan team.

Alo sefe, pogledaj Cibonu, decki nisu place vidli godinu dana pa svejedno igraju, takvi bi timovi trebali biti (ne kazem da je Partizan los), ali nazalost toga tu bas i nema, rijetki su takvi.

I forogot, this is HWBOT :)

Maybe team is not only machine for gathering points? Maybe team is for creating some friendship? Maybe team is for learning and sharing the knowledge?

If we forgot thinks like this, there is no hope, not just for HWBOT tems, but for all humanity.

If we're gonna bench just for fun and try and learn from our teammates, than why go to HWBot? We can do that on our local forums...

To compete with wealthiest teams and teams sponsored by manufacturer, average team must to spend a lot of money to buy several best CPU's and GPU's or to cheat. That was in old rules..

In new rules there is no benefit if team have 20 Gulftown's or 20 5870 or GTX480.

In matter of fact, with "Massman's" rules teams will spear money by working like team.

Separating manufacturer from overclockers will not get free hardware, online and live competitions...

HWBOT trying to connect manufacturers and overclockers. This is not sin. This is way how manufacturers will hear that we need more live competitions with affordable hardware.

Just an example... I bench anything I get in my main rig, I don't build benching rigs since I lack the funds for that. So, if I have a 4850 and my teammate has an 4850 I don't mind now, I bench it and try to make some points for the team. But if the new revision kicks in, I simply don't bench it since I won't do any good for the team, and lack the funds to gather more points for the solo competition. And in that case, I leave HWBot since I have no motivation to stay and bench.

  6. As for the donating part. Thing is: there's still a huge hole to cover from the past 5 years of investment (when there was no income); if that continues, HWBOT will simply not continue ... it's not very smart to keep a costly website running if there's nothing that covers the costs. Also, if there's no software developper, no bugs will be solved (free time is needed and when you have a high pressure coding job + kids running around, time is limited).

You can simply try advertising. Google AdSense might pay off if you manage to link it to eBay auctions people here might be interested in. May not pay much per click, but consider the fact that here you have 26k people, you MIGHT get some 2k clicks per month just from that. Not to mention getting companies to pay for banners on your site (hey, you said it, they want to get into OCing and pull some marketing there).

Explain me how eg a team with only 5 members can ever achieve anything ( even though all bench on LN2 ? ) The teams with the most members, messing with the high end hardware are always on top...

See my team, do we have the newest hardware or plenty of people in the team? Yet, we still manage to "tag along" with far larger teams.

Don't talk about benching solely for the team... some are holier then the pope here lol. Being in a team is sharing ideas, if possible bench together, learn form eachother... Whatever you do, you'll always contribute to the team and people will appreciate your efforts.

True, and all teams do that. But in order to have some ideas, you need to bench. And if you don't have any motivation to bench, where do you get your ideas? And if you're not playing for any team points but only for personal points, why would you want to help someone beat your score?

  7. It's quite obvious as the way things are currently that a team with maybe 10-15 active benchers has no chance against teams with 50 active benchers. Geez this team has top ranks, this one doesn't which team shall i join? It's quite obvious not many will go to a losing team.

I'd just like to say that this is totally CRAP, and if this is the reason for changing the rules, you're WAAAY off course. It's enough just to look at my team (although I really contribute almost nothing due to being unemployed) and see that a team with 13 members manages to scare bigger teams into joining up with MORE teams just to keep ahead of us. So, even if I have almost no money to spend, I try and OC anything I get in my computer and try to get at least SOME points for my team. If this new rule applies, then THAT's a message for us small folks to stop competing since we don't get any team points for our submissions. And if that happens, I might as well stop even trying and delete my profile.

  8. Just a thought about this new system, where you don't reward "small" categories as much as "big" ones...

If you get minimal boints why open new categories? For instance, new i3 systems come in. Why would anyone bother OCing their system just to get minimal points, if they can find a "large" category like the 3000+ Venice and buy some old hardware and try going in with that and get more boints being 50th with CpuZ there (so, 3004MHz and 2.9 boints) than getting 2.8 boints for getting the best result with a 7850BE Athlon X2 (4028MHz). So, why open up new hardware? I'm surprised ANYONE without cash would risk damaging their rig just for that small amount of boints when they can spend maybe $100 and get more boints.
