  1. Chips of 5900+ went for $3000-$5000 before.

With Ivy so close, though, I don't think this chip could go for that much. Two months ago, I reckon you could've sold this one for $7000 or so.

I did not even finished all benches with that chip but you already discuss their price :D

I don't expect someone willing to pay $7000, on the other hand, $1000 is only enough to cover buy/sell delta while you bin 15-20 CPUs.

Also, you can spend much more for bin and find nothing.

Anyway, first I need to finish with 3DMark01 and PCMark05 at least :)

Btw, why not make "For Sale" subforum here at hwbot?

  2. Thanks all!

    Lucky purchase?

Yes. I personally bin not more than 20 CPUs and all of them was from 50x to 54x. One C-Batch (was 53x) and all others B-Batch. This 6G CPU is D-Batch.

DO you using OCZ cooling on G skill memory?

Yes, I take it from OCZ Flex XLC DDR2 ram kits some years ago.

It's big, copper based and cool ram very well, better than alu stock heatsing comes with many ram kits.

    -20c is ridiculous

No coldbug/coldboot at least up to -90C (not checked more), but for 6GHz this chip needs temp in very small range from -20 to -25.

  3. Unfortunately SATARAD5.BIN from Gigabyte Hybrid EFI BIOS is in old format, not compatible with UEFI modules (RaidX64, RaidSetup, RaidLoader).

But I found new versions of UEFI RAID modules in MSI 990FXA-GD80 BIOS.

MSI 990FXA-GD80 BIOS 11.8: AMD RAID Utility v1.20 (RaidSetup), AMD RAID Driver v1.0.0.20 (RaidX64), RAID Loader

Asus Crosshair V Formula BIOS 1102: AMD RAID Utility v1.17 (RaidSetup), AMD RAID Driver v1.0.0.17 (RaidX64), RAID Loader

Here is modded Asus Crosshair V Formula BIOS 1102 with updated RAID modules from MSI BIOS (untested for now):

  4. Does it hang when starting the bench?

During Country Cup, we could work around that by moving the PCMark7 around until the benchmark started. Like 'click' on window and move mouse.

Older Win8 builds freezes after starting exe-file. When system info component tries to detect hardware. Benchmark window not shows on desktop. Even Ctrl+Alt+Del not works. Same problem with many other drivers/components, that works with hardware or system resources on low level. Compatibility fixed only in build 8102.

  5. Some say that Windows 8 is the fatest.

It's depends on Windows8 build, but all of them have various problems.

For me, build 7989 is the fastest so far. But it's not compatible with Futuremark SysInfo.

With 7989 build you will not be able to validate your score, so it's not for top20 world record scores.

Anything earlier than build 7989 not fully compatible with video drivers, so it's crap.

Build 8102 (Developer Preview) is fine, but it has IE10 integrated. At fist look I found IE10 slower than IE9 for PCMark05.

  6. For slowdown XP Startup with SSD RAID I use Read Benchmark in HDTune.

Run it once with XP Startup to see how many seconds need to complete this subtest, then finetune "Short Stroke" and "Block Size".

Disable autosave and monitor options, disable temperature in taskbar, set low priority for HDTunePro.exe.

Uncheck "Access Time" and "Burst Rate". Minimize HDTune after run the benchmark.

If one instance of HDTune is not enough to slow-down, you can run second at the same time.

  7. Thanks!

Steve, with 6+ GHz CPU and your storage you can beat this easy :)

Expected better Virus Scan but seems AMD RAID driver just piece of crap compared to Intel RST :(

Yes, I have validation file, but when I tried to upload it to Futuremark site, it says "Benchmark files are corrupted" (error code 10) and gives me link to download latest version of pcmark05 1.2.0.0.

I already have the latest version of benchmark and sysinfo. Checked validation file with winrar - no errors. This is the first time I got such problem with pcm05 validation. Will try to rerun it again.

  8. Let's see pcmark scores at 60000+ !! :D

    100k+

Maybe I do it wrong :P

    Sure :D

ramcache != ramdisk, but the line is very thin.

With a lot of RAM, small partition for chaching, long write delay and some other tweaks: ramcache == ramdisk.

Time to sell raid controllers / acards / SSDs and buy some non-overclokable 4x8Gb crap ram kits? Or some server moterboards with a lot of ram slots.

It's far cheaper and can even bring far better results then them uberly expensive Acards... PCmark05 was for the storage freaks with loads of cash, now the tide turns...

    1. 32gb ram kits not so cheap and very bad performance / overcloking ability

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231490&Tpk=G.SKILL%20F3-12800CL10Q-32GBXL

for best results with ram cache you need all the memory that supports your motherboard/chippset, especially for PCMark Vantage... 64 Gb for SB-E, etc.

    2. RamDisk are free for all and bring even better results than caching software (with only 4-8 gb of ram).

    3. Acards + discrete raid card is not the only option. On latest intel chipsets, only two sata3 ssd and intergated raid is enough in most cases.

  9. Working Ok with my daily Win7 x86 no-SP1: http://hwbot.org/submission/2234615_

Will try it on bench XP/Win7/Win8 later.

For better compatibility with new hardware, replace ancient version of direcpll.dll (v4.10.01.53, released in 2004 year) in this archive with the latest one (v4.10.01.95, released in 2009) from EnTech Taiwan site: http://www.entechtaiwan.com/files/direcpll.dll

  10. How did you get your graphics score up to 6952 at only 1030Mhz? Mine is around 6300 at 1055/1545Mhz. CPU/Motherboard are compareable.

Do you disable tesselation and vsync in catalyst control conter?

Also, CPU/Motherboard are comparable, but memory speed and OS settings is not.

I see your graphics score is 7188, not 6300: http://hwbot.org/submission/2203565_

So it seems you already figured out how to make faster run.
