LISTMANIA!!!

mtzki

Recommended Posts

This thread is for getting hints for some worthwhile new cultural experiences. So please list about 10 (no need to be exact with this number) of your favourite things per category, ordered or not. Possible categories are completely free, some natural examples being:

* games

* music albums/artists/songs

* books or authors

* films or directors or actresses/actors

* benchmarks (maybe a list of five bms here)

* sources of hw/OC knowledge

* ocers you respect most

But those should not restrain you. Sexiest females/males on the planet, favourite foods, pets, drinks, athletes, sports clubs, forms of exercise/sports, hw brands, body parts, places to visit, smileys, ...

No need to write a huge number of lists all at once. One list per post, possibly to kill the occasional boredom, that's the spirit. One can also report here single new experiences that are (almost) good enough to make it to some previously written list.

We had this thread at the crew section before. Let's see if it flyes here. Here's one of mine:

Computer games:

* Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura

* Baldur's Gate II (+ Throne of Bhaal)

* Fallout

* Grim Fandango

* Knights of the Old Republic

* Oblivion

* Paradroid

* Planescape: Torment

* Ultima 4

* Ultima 5

* Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

(I regret spending very little time with Ultima Underworlds and System Shocks and Elite. Learned to play with Ultima 4 and 5 - i wonder if those games could make it to the list otherwise, maybe they would. Luckily managed to stay completely out of MMORPGs so far. Those could turn out to be the death of me.)

I'll fire out some of my top rated computer games, or ones that have wasted a lot of my time in recent years anyway :D

* Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising multiplayer

* Star War Galaxies, before the updates

* WoW

* Guild Wars

* Delta Force: Black Hawk Down multiplayer

* C&C: Generals

I've recently bought Supreme Commander, which is not really drawing me away from WoW - since I'm only ~lvl30 & a fairly new recruit. Get on WoW mtzki, we've got a good little guild with some Scandinavian guys & girls on there already :) Anyone who played SWG will know what a great game that was, I miss hunting groups on Dant; t's prime for a remake.

Novalogic's FPS' are the best around (makers of JO & DF:Black Hawk Down), I might check their site because a new game is long overdue from them, Joint Ops is like a faster paced & more responsive Battlefield 2 imo. C&C Generals is the only game I've played through in single player mode, MMO games tend to hold my attention much better & thrashing other people is more satisfying than beating AI haha

Oh wait.. what's this.. 14 day trial pass to WoW. Don't suppose you're interested in that though :P I thought I'd do a list of some of my top music, but there's a lot of it - so here's a selection of recently listened to CD's:

* Smashing Pumpkins (Adore)

* Bloc Party (Silent alarm remixes)

* LCD Soundsystem

* Radiohead (Kid A)

* Portishead (NYC orchestra album)

* Hot Chip (The Warning)

* DJ Shadow (The Outsider)

And the list goes on, I've had to give up picking music to listen to, as I could waste an hour searching for something that I really want to listen to... so I just pick whatever is next out of the box & put up with it :lol:

edit> multiple typos doh!

* Depeche Mode: Violator

* dEUS: The Ideal Crash (from Belgium me thinks)

* Faith No More: King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime

* Giant Robot: Superweekend (Finnish)

* Kent: Isola (Swedish)

* And the Lefthanded: In the Kingdom of Shadows (Finnish)

* Nine Inch Nails: The Fragile

* Nirvana: Nevermind

* Outkast: Stankonia

* Pixies: Doolittle

* Pixies: Bossanova

* Radiohead: OK Computer

* Red Hot Chili Peppers: Blood Sugar Sex Magic

* REM: Automatic for the People

There's just no way to cut this list to under ten. Those Finnish bands didn't make it to my list for being Finnish imho.

Good to see some Death in Vegas in there, and some Smashing Pumpkins too - I hope you own the Mellon Chollie album too mate, shame on you if not! :)

The Pixies sounds familiar to me but, and I've picked up their albums once or twice in the shop, but never bought it...hmm I may investigate. Giant Robot is a sweet name for a band, sounds like something I might like too :P

I'll try to bore you guys with some of the things that I like, or I just wasted lots of time with :)

Computer games:

1. Counter Strike 1.6

2. Worms (2, Armaggedon, WWP)

3. Delta Force (1-4)

4. Heroes of Might and Magic (1-3)

5. Age of Empires (1 + RoR)

6. Mortal Kombat series

7. NFS (4-7)

8. Warcraft (1-3, but especialy 2)

9. Freelancer

10. Seek and Destroy , Tyrian, R-Type, Supaplex, Dynablaster, Scorched Earth...and tons of old school goodies...Doom 1&2, Duke Nukem 3D, Hexen...I can't even remember all of them right now...

Music albums/artists/songs:

Uh...too many to write down :) But, I would point out a couple of bands that are rather unknown outside my country, but are truly living legends: Parazitii (hip-hop cult band) and Phoenix (70's rock cult band)

That's all for now...I'll try to remember some good old games for next time.
