Thanks everyone!!
With my design, its basically just as "safe" as using IHS. Shout out to Splave for dialing in the mounting prodecure. Binned springs FTW

Interesting, I know of quite a lot of direct die experiments that failed, seems yours works good - but it seems it is load limited when I see results? The higher load at benchmark is the more difficult it is? Anyway, it is awesome to see people like you going new ways to max out
Two limiting factors still exist with direct die. Thermal paste, and physical size of die. Direct die lessens the temp delta but there is still a delta. The higher the load the larger the delta is, just the same as with IHS.

Direct die power! Nice work

Good points, they could have stripper plate ejection so no pins but yea the gate location would be visible. You are probably correct, they are stamped/forged instead of die-cast.
-
I believe the IHS are die-cast. If you look around the outside bottom edge some have slight "flashing" which would be from the parting line of the die-cast mold.
-
According to some reports and my knowledge I think that quality of standard IHS may vary - remember that it's a mass production, so they have some tolerance range in dimmensions, flatness and surface roughness.
Not to mention, that spare IHS will for sure help keep all the markings on original IHS intact
I checked a few retail IHS. I found that depth of pocket on bottom varies from .28-.38mm and flatness varies up too .05mm.
