  1. At 1.7 volts, I'm guessing so. Is the chip really that bad?

I was actually testing the chip for 3d 01 with gpu on water, couldn't break 6.1ghz that my last one did.

I then remembered that my last heaven score was from my 780 ti and that I could easily break it with my gpu on water.

So I just switched os's quick and did a run just to get some points. Heaven doesn't care much for cpu so that's I why I wasn't really paying attention to it but cpu was on ln2.

Can't wait to try this again with gpu on ln2 and memory modded.

Basically everything was setup for 3d 01 and this was the only bench I could think of that I could run and beat my old score.

I definitely realize it's an awkward setup for this bench but it wasn't planned or anything. Sometimes if my main goal doesn't go good and there is ln2 left I try to run anything I can to at least make the night semi-productive, even if the setup isn't ideal.

  2. I too agree that there should be more of a communication path for us consumers. Take the UK and ASUS for example. We cannot RMA directly to ASUS, and it has to go through a retailer, no questions asked. ASUS refuse to even talk to you if you try to sort out an RMA, or at least they have done so in the past when my Z77 Sabertooth stopped booting past POST due to the SATA ports having an issue with the compatibility mode which could not be turned off, at all.

Fortunately, most of my "daily" hardware (none of mine (what is 24/7?), mostly family and friends hardware) is absolutely fine and I've not had to RMA things since roughly 2009.

ya that really sucks. If they can take your money where you live than you should get the same support as everyone else.

  3. Yes, it says in the opening post this is an experimental project ... the product is not even final yet. I hope it will be available to everyone but right now I can't tell you when or if it ever will be. If you want to buy one of these right now the Epower is your only choice.

I completely understand and I totally appreciate you sharing it with us. Just sometimes it's frustrating just starting out and you see all these amazing devices and they are very hard to get a hold of especially as a beginner. It's still awesome to see though. Thanks for sharing.

  4. which is why showing it off is bunnying pointless.

oh hey, look at these cool toys we give our overclocker friends!

ya it's true. I still love looking at these things. but it's like "hey here is some really amazing stuff that you mortals will never get your hands on" That is one thing frustrating about xoc, I wish the tools and special hardware were available to everyone. Not that I even know how to use one yet but it's still frustrating, especially the software programs like abx.

  5. I think it's a great idea, and I'm for any change as I've been sitting on the fence for a while now.

I've had pots for over 2 months and not used them. The lack of LN2 and DICE available where I live also makes it hard.

My 2 cents worth of an idea though, which isn't worth much as I'm still what I class as a OC noob.

    Why have 3 "non-extreme" leagues.

Why not maybe have bit of a re-structure.

Rookie League - Obviously leave this as it is. First 3 months - non extreme cooling.

Novice League - Make this your league for air/water overclockers. As there are a few from this league that will never go above air/water.

Enthusiast League - Make this league for SS/DICE. Both sit roughly in the same world. DICE having bit more of a edge.

Extreme League - LN2/Helium etc - For the guys who use cooling below -100.

I've just never understood the purpose of having the novice and enthusiast leagues.

this doesn't really help with trying dice/ln2 a few times, getting points, and not having to move up a league.

I was kind of upset at first that my first ln2 sub made me switch leagues and almost made watercooling subs not fun anymore, but now I am glad that I switch to extreme league and wouldn't like a change since I already had to make this decision myself.

I thought about a cool idea when deciding which league to join. Maybe setting up 2 accounts, one for water and one for extreme, but that wont really work and would mess up the team leagues.

I think things are good the way they are. Once you start using ln2 you wont really want to go back to water anyway.

  6. Asus 980 strix mate

use one of the locked 3d memory bios's. You still obviously can't change mem freq. but mem will be overclocked. I am using the 980_88 bios in win xp now and it's working great, mem speed is what it should be 2200. Also nvpmm works good so the card will stay at max boost even when under a low load like 3d 01. it works great.

  7. that kinda sucks. just got back from islandia, ny airgas and I could only get them down to $1.65 a liter. I heard the guy say that the list price was like $4.50 a liter in the system so they did try and help me out. If anyone pays more I can upload my receipt, at least it would be current.

  8. Going to try for my first time tomorrow airgas in islandia, ny. Hopefully the receipts help. I also have receipts from the welding place I use.

I love the welding place because it's only $1 a liter but they have been giving me an attitude everytime I go there now like they don't like me coming there. I am so mad.

I hope airgas comes thru. It's a little further away as the welding place is only 10min away but I hate when you get treated like crap as a paying customer. I hope they can match $1.

Does anyone else bench on long island, ny? Hoping there is another place around.

  9. Hey guys,

Someone on another forum is after a BIOS where he can have a little more play on the voltage side of things as he has now bought a water block for his card so the temperatures should come down to allow for a little more of a push.

Are there any BIOS's out there yet which have unlocked voltage control or have increased limits?

If there are, please let us know. :)

    Cheers!!

it depends on which card he has.

  10. Hi guys, trying to use my matrix for some 3d 01 runs in xp and I am having trouble getting the card to boost to the highest p0 boost clock. I tried nvidia inspector and setting the power management but it's not working. What do you guys use when running xp and the newer cards with boost. Same with 06. No matter what I set in precision it will only boost to 987 core. Any help would be amazing. Pulling my hair out. Thanks.

  11. This:

"Sometimes after bd bf or b7, you need to shutdown PSU... and wait for discharge (normal way)

    OR

Russian style, shutdown PSU, remove 26pin from the MB, plug it , restart... it will save you a lot of time."

It's not sometimes for me, but like 95% of the time when overclocking ram. I see other boards from other brands have better OC recovery and there is no need for this. It's quite annoying.

    [EDIT]

Apearently LN2 mode seems to help me get 1T inseatd of 2T. I couldn't get it in normal mode, but not 100% confirmed yet.

did you confirm if ln2 mode helped with 1T. I can't get 1T no matter what I try. Wonder if ln2 mode raises a certain voltage that is helping.

  12. Selling my Kingpin Edition. Card is really nice. Has the best memory out of all Kingpins I tested. Does 8000mhz on tight timing bios. I hit 1763mhz core in firestrike extreme but I think I could have done 1800 and I think it will do 1800 in the less intensive benches. I can really only accept paypal.

    $700 shipped.

  13. pasi@futuremark.com => Pasi is a friendly guy (manages the ORB). I think he'll be able to help out :)

cool, thanks a lot for that. I emailed regular sales yesterday but will try this.

I might be mistaken but I think I am able to submit the score online even with the free version. Is that all I need is the link that comes up once submitted online. futuremark sales said it was possible.

Not that I have a top 20 coming anytime soon but I am trying really hard.

Edit - nevermind I guess free version only lets you submit one result. Hopefully Pasi can help out.

Edit2 - I can get the validation link with the free version ok but at least in 05 you can't open the details window with free version. That's really wierd. Hopefully I can get some keys. So unless you use a hacked key you can't even use the free version of 05 and get a proper screenie because no details window. and then if you use a hacked key the validation link doesn't work. It's really frustrating
