  1. I only remember a handful of people complaining about the way it is now. Those are the same talking about hardware sharing as well. I would vote just leave it alone but that option isn't available unless you are considering "... oh, and also, I don't like changes" that option. I can't tell though as the last option is either worded weird or have some slick message hidden behind it. I like changes just not this change. A simple "no" or "leave it the way it is" would have been sufficient. Definitely not voting for Alternative #2 even though it is the closet thing to what we have. Can't because it has the latest proposal clinging on to it. Again, my 2 cents.

  2. So what's the point of only allowing 20% of my hardware points to go towards the team points instead of the full 100%? All this just encase somebody is hardware sharing but for those that aren't your beat, only 20% of your hardware points count for the team. It all seems the same whether you use only 20% or 100% I just don't get why change. In the end it really doesn't matter to me whether you give me 1 point or 1,000 points. I overclock daily just for the fun of it not because I'm a bot. I once was sucker to thinking the bot put the overclock in overclocking but no longer think that a way and haven't for a year now. The bot has and does provide a nice service. I appreciate the guys that have put there everything into the bot and what it is today.

  3. This hardware sharing is getting blown way out of proportion. Kinda reminds me of 1999 and all the Y2K freaks trying to spook everybody else about the year 2000. ROFL

Just leave it the way it is. All you can do is put your trust in that people won't abuse the system. Like everything else in this world there will be those that do. What can ya do? Catch them if you can.

  4. until there is an individual hardware id for cpu/gpu, i dont think there is a solution apart from maybe a disclaimer and hope that everyone is honest. even then there would need to be a no 2nd hand hardware sale rule.

Even at that though what if you sell your hardware to someone else? Then they will be submitting results with your sold hardware with that ID. Then what do you have to do, jump thru hoops to prove you sold it to them?

  5. The thing is ... most of the time someone talks about hardware sharing in another team, it's based on hear-say rumours, cannot be talked about in public (maybe someone gets angry) and there's hardly ever any proof. If we start removing entire teams based on just "hey, I am sure of this", then I guess anyone could come to the staff and accuse someone they don't like.

If at a certain point someone comes to me about XS sharing hardware, will you allow me to remove the entire team just because of that rumour? Or even based on made-up evidence (which is actually happening)?

I'm also not really comfortable setting up a 'witness protection' unit ... it sounds rediculous even typing the words.

On of the underlying issues here is that team captains all too often choose the side of their team member, even though evidence shows that hardware sharing (or cheating for that matter) happened. I'm VERY open to suggestions from the team captains, but in return I want them to take responsibility as well and remove the unfair players from their team if they suspect something strange is going on.

Alot of people don't have local PC shops where they can just go down and pick thru the CPU's and get the batch # they like, for instance me. I rely on internet shops and for them to pick the batch for me so here is a scenario that happens and I know I have seen at several forums. A member goes down to his local computer store and finds a known great overclocking batch # CPU and starts a thread on it. He states that they have 3 more at this local store and if anyone is interested let him know and he will pick them one up if they paypal him the money. So next thing you know 4 members have bought the same batch # of CPU's and all 4 are overclocking almost similar in clocks. All 4 members submit results around the same time or even at separate times. Now to the hardware sharing police they are calling foul because there are 4 similar results with the same model # CPU being submitted at the bot by the same team. What can ya do? Nothing because no matter how many pictures, screenshots, tabs you require there is no way of determining who or what is being bought, sold or shared.

I don't believe the problem is as big as some are making it out to be. About the only possible solution I can see is if the Bot starts requiring bill of sale to be uploaded but that in itself would open a can of worms like no other. If it came down to that many would prolly walk a way as it isn't that serious. Even at that though a cheater will find a way to cheat and prolly just alter the bill of sale or make up a bogus one.

  6. I just wish we could all get along and bench but we can't because the world is filled with a bunch of hate-a-laters. Guess I can still dream though. :D Who knows, maybe I'm one of those hate-a-laters in their eyes too.

  7. You did nothing wrong Sweet and your post in no way offended me. It takes alot to offend me actually. Over the last year though there have been some, and they know who they are, that have tried their hardest to accuse, shake up and cause drama. They live off that type of stuff. I would rather see those dealt with than trying to go done this never ending road of hardware sharing. There is no way to police it.

  8. Is this what you really want to allow to happen? Really? I will do everything I can to stop this being a legal and allowed situation. It would NOT be good for benching. How can anyone think that being beaten over and over again by the same one card is good for the hobby or the poor sod whos underneath it all? If anyone thinks this is GOOD.... please quit benching. Please.

I really don't care and sorry if that offends people. It is just overclocking computers. What pisses me off more than people sharing are the people chrolling and accusing all the time without any factual stuff. Then they want to do nothing but start drama and problems. There is no way of policing it or I might be in tuned to it. End of story . Wish we could move on with life from this broken record we spin day in and day out. People need to get up, get out and get some if this is all they have time for is to complain and whine. Just my 2 cents. I'm out and won't be back to entertain this idea any longer.

  9. To be honest I really don't care if people share or not. Doesn't seem there is any real way of determining it unless the person admits to it. What I do care about is the people crying about it all the time and making false claims about it. Is there anyway we can do something about that? Gets old real fast.

    Just a thought here

If CPUz could be updated to show hardware ID's on CPU & GPU's it might make this easyer.

I have heard that FM files used for uploads conatin a full list of all hardware ID's, perhaps at least for 3D stuff a scan could be made to compare runs.

That would still take a person to flag a run so its checked. Having it be auto checked might casuse problems with hardware that has been sold and repurchased tho.

I was trying to find a simple program that needed no install to show hardware ID's but coming up empty.

I am not 100% sure if device manage shows what we would want.

Here is what my two 260gtx's look like when I select Hardware ID's.

Again I am not sure if these numbers would be what we would want to see in a bench sceen upload.

And another screen from a program I found that does not need any install. It shows a CPU ID, but again I am not sure what this number means or if it is different for every CPU.

This would be great but what if the CPU/GPU was sold. Then this would be pointless. It's just impossible to find a way to stop it as the person could always fall back on the excuse the hardware was sold not shared. Then how could you prove it wasn't sold?

  10. After finally getting to the end of this thread

Im sorry SF3D, but I think you are completely wrong.

A team is only as strong as its weakest player

Making a only the top players get points for the team is completely opposite to the whole idea of a team

That even if you're not great, you're still helping

By only allowing the top guys to actually get points for their team it greatly discourages guys lower down, and just seems a pointless idea to me :/

All the thousands and thousands of dollars I have spent over the past few years just for it to be nothing now. :(

  11. It's very simple sharing vga's in a team is pointless now.

Teams with money to afford to buy countless vga's = pointless for team now.

It levels the playing field for those teams not so fortunate hardware wise to have 20 vidcards in the same category if it's really indeed 20 diff cards ;) or the need to have a large amount of benchers and constantly be recruiting....., encourages teams to bench as whoa hold on for this one "AS A TEAM" as in together at the same location.

It's quite obvious as the way things are currently that a team with maybe 10-15 active benchers has no chance against teams with 50 active benchers. Geez this team has top ranks, this one doesn't which team shall i join? It's quite obvious not many will go to a losing team.

    OLD saying

Gangs are powerfull in numbers, take the numbers away and your left with a couple of punks with no spines.

@ k404 it doesn't seem to effect user points so users can still bench........and with the ambient above 0c category well you don't even see how its implemented yet......

If you really think hardware sharing is not going on, well you need to open your eyes ;)

One sign will be team's upset over this, however now that I just explained that no one will be quite so quick to condemn at least that part of the revision for fear of looking guilty.

ROFL!!!! You sir crack me up! All I gots to say is ride on little broom stick cowboy ride on.
