  1. yeah uncle steve! I love this man. its such an obscure bench these days. I wanna see you do some pcmark benches with your raid set and the container together!
  2. I know what you mean. I'm not saying this is the end of the story. just want to think of ways to level the field. ES chip automatically puts you in a category. its a double edged sword. Yeah you got the es chip cheap on ebay but then again you are separated from the retail guys and the pros with unlimited es chips. now you are stuck in the middle class. the pro's with the es chips probably sold that chip on ebay because they had 5 other ones like it and that was the worst one. and the retail guys are trying to beat a guy with a mediocre es chip the pros didnt even want. maybe make it simple: PRO (i have a bunch of chips for free and I can pick and choose the best one and post the best score from the best chip) UNSPONSORED ( I dont have many chips because I have to pay for them, I want to post a score but I dont want to add too much vcore and kill it because I dont have money for more chips) BOTTOM FEEDER ( I dont care about anyone but myself and my submission... I buy whatever i can and get as many freebies as I can. I buy mediocre es chips illegally for cheap on ebay because they are ES and my ego makes me think I can clock it higher than the pros could although they sold it on ebay because it sucked and knew someone would buy it because it says ES on it. I also send burned cpus and boards back to manufacturers for new ones driving the prices up for the retail guys and allowing less es chips for the pros. [PRO] Hey man I killed 5 of the ES gulftowns last month you sent and my last working Rampage III is not posting, can you send me some new ES? I'll give you my fedex acct. for shipping. [mfgr]"sorry pal, we dont have enough freebies to go around this month because of RMA's from the Bottom Feeder category"
  3. the fact that kingpin thought of the rank/sponsored idea doesnt surprise me at all. kingpin is a skateboarder and he's named after the kingpin on a skateboard truck. being a skateboarder myself I can understand the thinking behind his idea. In a skateboard contest you have 3 classes. pro, am, and everyone else. The difference is simple. The pros get checks in the mail from the manufacturers, the ams get freebies but no money is involved, and everyone else has to buy the freebies the pros and and ams sell on ebay so they can pay the rent. I think the way it works is like this: I wanna see who has the top 32M run with a 655k so I go to 655k in processor box and click 2d and then 32m then I have the option to see everyone in the top 10 or I can narrow the search: like this...when you look at the leaderboard you will see a symbol next to the members name that indicates whether their class right away without having to run through everyones screen shot to see if they are ES or Retail. I know es doensnt mean much some retail chips can kill es chips. I think the whole point is it narrow down the guys with unlimited access to es chips and can cherry pick them and bin them down and post an amazing bench. but the guys that have limited money and no hookups are solely dependent on not eating that week and only have 1 or 2 chips to bench and limited boards and rely only on that retail chip and their os tweaking skills, etc. I'm just trying to come up with something that can even it out a bit. Like the old saying "pick on someone your own size" its sorta similar. You have a very fine line of dudes that are just doing reviews 24/7 and benching their freebies and the guys that have no hookups but are decent benchers and have potential but the marketing dudes dont pay any attention to them because of their hw rank. they guys they see are the same dudes getting the hookups so they dont look elsewhere. but if you mark the guys with the sponsors then it opens it up more for the rest of the guys that are blowing their kids college funds at newegg. The feedback addition is extremely important especially for the newer guys. say you are new to this and you dont know anyone. You dont know what the hell is going on but you just wanna make a good submission. Take this example: the gigabyte mitx contest. Sam had some submissions he made and dino and some other guys were like wtf SAm? thats rad and all but can you show us a video or something to back it up? and sam took his submission down because he probably didnt want to deal with being called a cheater and jeopardize all the time he spent getting his rank this far. I saw my friends dino and benchzoner asking him to back it up and he kept making excuses. Then I jump in there and start this post about how he ruined the contest etc. I dont know sam. hes probably a good guy at the end of the day and had the best intentions but I sided with my buddies and just fueled the fire. massman ended up locking the thread and it was never really settled. sam didnt get banned or his 32m run forcibly removed by admins. he just took it down and it made everyone even more suspicious but I can see why he took it down. He would rather not deal with the accusations and drama and it was not a major prize contest so there was not a lot on the line for him but if I knew his reputation as a bencher I wouldve never jumped in like that. its like OPB. same thing on XS. oh this dude is no good. hes a known cheater. then the new guys just follow them and say oh hes a cheater and hes crap but they dont even know him or what specific bench he did that was questionable. if you had something next to everyones name that like TRANS AM(-2) and you could click on the (- ) and it will take you the that questionable run then it would put an end to assumption and make people see if its cheating or not and come up with their own opinion based on the submission rather than just random hearsay on a forum. I think everyone deserves that at least. instead of being judged by their screen name. how would you like it if you had a bench or did os tweak and were totally legit but maybe had a history of saying some stupid things that pissed other members off but you were totally legit with the bench. but people were more inclined to judge you by your crazy posts than your actual benchmarks then the day comes when you have a good run but canon hd camera battery was dead or did some crazy tweaks you only knew about and didnt want reveal your secrets that kept you ahead. the next morning you check the forums and You're automatically "a cheater" because you made some smart ass remarks on a forum in the past and you have a really good score. I think you guys are smart enough to get what im saying. the pros will naturally compete with other pros (ES chips against other ES chips) and they have to show their sponsors. The Am's can compete against other Am's and pros with ES chips etc but are unpaid members.... maybe they have a ram hookup through gskill or corsair and get some freebies now and then for reviews. This class might have access to ES chips they either got from someone else or legitimately from the chip companies. they gain 2 bonus points for beating a pro class. * The everyone else category "unsponsored" cannot use ES chips *only retail cpu can be used but the catch is they can compete with the pros and the ams with es chips and gain 1 x bonus points for beating an Am class submission and 3x bonus points if you beat a pro class submission. *bonus points do not count towards your global rank but are noted in a separate field in your points screen. in a category called "I beat someone in their own front yard" Another thing to add is a reputation dialog next to the members id/name. think of it like Ebay feedback. if the member has a reputation for cheating or questionable submissions you will see a - next to a numeric value. like TRANS AM (-2) this tells people to pay close attention to the submission because they have submitted questionable scores on 2 occasions. maybe they didnt have a valid screen or they had an amazing run but didnt have a video or explanation to the submission to back it up. You guys do the rest. I think kingpin was onto something here.
  4. WTF happened to our friendly contest? someone cheated? massman please ban the guy that screwed it up for everyone else. It makes us all look bad. We are in here to have an honest contest and some jackass screws it up for everyone else that are legitimate and just wanted a clean contest. Its not fair man for one dude to make us all look bad. either he comes up with a really good explanation or just ban him. Its not fair to the dudes that spent their friday nights when they couldve been getting laid or benched during the week and went to work hungover and got crap from the boss for not being productive. if this dude is bad news then hes ruins it for everyone. get his ip address and notify cpuz and FM admins that this guy is a known cheater and the oc community wont tolerate it. either come up with some vids fast to save your ass or sell all your hdwr and buy and mac so you can at least get an internet connection to see the legitimate dudes talk trash about you. tail between your legs and all. we had a decent contest for once and you screwed everyone and made us all look bad. FTFOHere PLEASE!!! that remark about this being a friendly contest and you have nothing to lose since there is no major prize.. wtf?? .its no skin off your ass remark is horse crap and you know it. you lost your dignity and respect from everyone once again. gtf out of here!
  5. I couldnt do a single run no matter what on friday night. I checked the temps in bios around -15c and the fluke and they matched up perfectly but as soon as I started adding voltage in gigabyte t clocker in windows it would take it but as soon as I hit any thing. even a 1m run it would bsod. I got absolutely nowhere that night. I took a break all weekend and I think I have tiny bit of ln2 left so I'm going to remount and try one last time before the contest ends. I cant believe the runs you guys managed to get. Its absolutely incredible overclocking! I'm so proud of all of you! everyone in this contest deserves a high five and a round of cold ones! INCREDIBLE OVERCLOCKING ! The overclocking gods are happy once again!
  6. this latest 8/20 bios is crap. I need to revert. Any good bios lemme know. Im just gonna go back and see what everyone is on. I cant even complete 32m at 5.6 its not qpi and its not ram. its something else. Its freaking me out.
  7. whats everyone doing right now? I finally got it all on and have like 1/4 tank of 35l left. chew whats your status? did you get it going again? hit me on the radio. anyone else clocking tonight get in here so we have something to do while the boards are warming back. I have no expectations of myself. I just want to beat my last score and see what this new 655k can do. other than that I'm just excited to be back in here. Get in here with me! chew call me. @dino I'm listening to the ac/dc Dirty Deeds record in the background. maybe it will give me some aussie luck.
  8. dino how far do live from him? i dont know how tight you guys are. I just imagine you guys are all hanging out together in the parking lot of an AC/DC show talking about overclocking. you know what I mean? A good analogy for au team would be a band that has 3 guys that are masters of their instruments and just kick ass (AU team) or a jam band with 15 guys, maybe the drummer and bassist are really really good but the dude on harmonica and rest of the band screws up and makes the band sound like crap. I know I give you guys a lot of crap with the fosters and outback steakhouse jokes but the truth is I am jealous because AU team is the best metal band I've ever seen.
  9. holy crap have you seen this yet??? you guys are famous! Its on the official gigabyte site for the board. I think they need to update the site asap with fester's frozen picture. that would be hilarious! http://www.gigabyte.com/fileupload/microsite/246/default.html
  10. I think you're right Bizzy Bone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bizzy_Bone I cant take any chances. Its been raining for the past 4 days in NYC and today is the 1st day the sun came out. I just sprayed it all down and I plugged the new 655k in and the stock cooler and its all good. I'm gonna do some driver crap and then take it all down and do the next steps. I usually never grease the dimms because the last time I did it it just attracted so many particles but I think its the only way to ensure it makes it through a long session. Are you a contender too? it would be awesome to have you here. Sorry to call you bizzy bone. I'm not a huge rap fan but bone thugs in harmony wouldnt have been the huge 90s success if it wasn't for your beautiful voice and tweaks on the sound engineers computer when you guys cut the 1st record.
  11. ^^ i know! I'm wondering if his board even turns on after that session. I've never seen anything like that before. It mustve been raining or something that day. Ive benched for 8 hrs at -100 - -140 and it never looked anything close to that. I didnt have grease in the dimms on the last run but I think I might do it and fill the recessed center of the socket just to be safe. also I always seal the battery circle with eraser. his is just out in the open. The leaderboard speaks for itself... I've said it before and i'll say it again. The Aussie team is the raddest!
  12. george just stay positive and see what you can do.. I know how you feel my friend. It sucks. I just got another board and 655 so I'm in the process of doing the mods and insulation. after seeing fester's board I'm taking my time and taking every precaution. did you see the pic of his board after the last session?!!! holy crap!
  13. okay forget it. i just thought it was a good idea but maybe its too good for its own good. lets all just bench and be disconnected from everyone else and just do what we always do and just be in our own world and just make our submissions to the computer like robots. I just thought it would be cool if we all did this together. I remember benching while uncle fester was benching and how fun we had knowing we weren't alone and someone on the other side of the world was doing the same thing at the same time and shared the same frustrations and had a drink or a cig while waiting for the board to warm up after crapping out. I didnt even know him but he had a sense of humor and I could relate to and cant remember ever having so much fun overclocking. I just want to do it again. I wish you guys had that experience that day because I watched him while at work and got home and he had so many problems and i've been there so many times. I dont have any friends in new york ive clocked with except dr kim and none of my friends understand it. It was just cool to see a complete stranger going through the same crap as me on the other side of the world at the same time.
  14. I'm gonna get to the bottom of this one way or another. I've seen kangaroo jack 2 a million times and there is no way a kangaroo can run off with $50,000 in cash and blow it all on 500L liters ln2 and a couple gigabyte boards and clarksdales and suddenly place top 3 in hw category only 90 min later. what the hell is going on dino?!
  15. That make more sense now cuz I was always thinking how fosters is such crap but was confused caused the aussie guys like to party and overclock really hard. now that its not the fosters i'm assuming you guys all stop off at outback steakhouse on the way home after getting the dewars filled?
  16. wtf?!! first I see uncle fester gets 655k 7m.4s spi32 run and now this? I'm changing my diet to strictly outback steakhouse and fosters from now on. dino, I know "fosters" is australian for beer but whats australian for "kick fricken ass 655k overclock?"
  17. Uncle, I think there's a 2 for 1 drink special on Fosters and that rum you like at outback steakhouse tonight. but i think we can all agree you're definitely better to drive tonight. next round is on me.
  18. dino what does that same 655k do on the ud2h-usb3 on ln2? or do I not want to know?
  19. Dino, Pro... our favorite uncle is in the contest too and is kicking ass! Tim needs to get in here now. (sorry guys I just love the aussie team. such a rad team and so small but they are rad and nice guys.) Nice work fester! Im totally surprised i thought he was strictly gulftown these days. I'm stoked that he's in here! I ordered another mitx tonight so I'll give it another try. @ uncle and everyone else with a live account and a cam. hook up your cam next time and lets all bench together this weekend. like friday or sat night? We should all coordinate for a live show this week in some synchronized overclocking.. we all bench together in a crazy frenzy in a mass live event. I think it would be awesome! Ive seen fester live before. Ive never seen dino. I think I saw chew a year ago or so live, never saw massman or anyone else in here. I think it would be cool to see all you guys all in the same event. Think of it as a live overclocking event at a convention center except we dont have to be in the same physical location and there is no money or sponsored crap involved so there is no pressure or expectations that lead to any crap. There is no crazy prize to cut and slash each other for. We all just have fun and have some drinks and just overclock as friends and push each other further and have a few laughs at the same time but we are in completely different parts of the world but are all overclocking together and friends on the same board at the same time and its LIVE on the internet! I cant be the only one here that thinks this would be awesome. anyone? We should all get in here soon decide on a date and time so massman can post the live event on the front page so people know about it before it happens. Then we all start clocking at a time for a couple hours and while we are waiting for the cpu to get back to cold boot temps we are checking out how our friends are doing and pushing them to do better.
  20. George when you say cold imc do you mean you are cooling the cpu with ln2 or do you mean you have the ram cold? Im sorta confused I see guys cooling the ram with fancy pots but the ram is so close to the cpu pot that its already cold to the touch. I just had to break out the hairdryer. fyi I just got my ass kicked by 7 sec by rick tonight. Nicely done buddy I'm messing around with a 540 and the ud2h tonight on ln2. Nothing special yet. just doing wprime 1024 runs and I keep freezing because I keep running to this thread to type while its running and not paying attention to the fluke. lemme concentrate guys. So far im finding this 540 is not liking vcore too much. maybe that a good thing. Im sorry to keep posting in the thread when Im basically out until i get another board but I like to pretend Im still in it in the meantime.
  21. I'm going back and looking at everyones submissions. my mem is crap. massman wtf? is that just lynnfield or a really good kit? All of you are kicking my rams ass. is everyone pretty much using a elpida hyper kit and all of my kits are garbage? im seeing george is doing 1880mhz at 6-7-5-18 with gtx2. arent those like 200 bux for single stick? and massman is at 2100 at 7-7-6 also with the gtx2. damn! a few months ago I was at the corsair site and ordered them then benchzoner told me I paid $200bux for a single 2gb stick. I canceled the order because I thought it was for 2 sticks. now I can finally see why they were 200 bux a stick. i have 4x2gb hyperx 2000 cas 8 kits and 2x2 gskill pi blk 2200 7-10-10-28 kits. I still havent really taken the time to max them out. I think the highest vdimm ive gone is 1.7v with air. may I ask you guys what your vdimm is at on those gtx2 kits on air?
  22. killed the board and the 655k. I'll try to get another one before the end of the contest. thanks everyone for your nice comments. it means a lot to me. I know my ram is crap and it couldve been much better but I rushed and did what I could but now I wish spent more time figuring the os out and working on my memory more. now that i killed the board its given me time to reevaluate everything. just looking at everyones submissions and trying to see what I couldve done differently. everyone has been so kind to everyone in this contest and seem more interested in the other ones in the contest than helping themselves. if you are fed up like myself with all the overcrap discussions lately and just want to see a bunch of good people having fun overclocking just to overclock then this is it. this contest is a reminder of how overclocking should be. I cant wait to see what happens during the last week of the contest. its gonna be rad!
