Unlocking ATI 5970 core freq. over 1000Mhz

S_A_V , I moved it to 1101Mhz and gpuz looks good . One problem though , it is only letting me adjust one core to over 1000Mhz ? Any ideas ?

On software level 5970 just like two 5870 in crossfire.

AMD GPU Clock Tool set clocks for each core/card separately.

You need to select second core/mem from list and set clocks for it.

If AMD GPU Clock Tool not works for some reasons (it always works fine for me with 5870 and 5970) - you can try this versions of MSI Afterburner:

It does see both my 5970 cores but it will only set core 0 to over 1000Mhz and not core 1 . I also had cq who tried it on his 5970's and it does the same as mine , only core 0 will go over 1000MHz . I see guys on HWBOT with 5970 submissions over 1000mhz core speed . Hopefully someone knows S_A_V .

Hello ,

I have a 5970 Unlocked Limit up to 1200 Mhz at Core.

I use one Tool , Radeon Editor ( RBE 1.25 ) and you can edit BIOS and up limit at Core and Memory.

Just , edit the BIOS with new Core - Memory Limits and Flash with Atiflash 3.75.

RBE :

You need a 32 bit os for RBE still , Ximi ?

RBE Works well at OS 32 and 64 Bits.

I use a OS with 64 Bits.

Regards !! ;)

I set up RBE Ximi . I have an issue however , not being able to set the upgrade core clocks , I was going for 1200mhz core like you did but its not allowing any upgrade . Also I'm really bugged that AMD Tool will take core 0 to over 1000mhz but will not take core 1 under or higher then 1000mhz , just fails when set . Any thoughts Ximi ?

Hello ,

On RBE for up limits is very simple , Load BIOS File , go to Additional Features , on Method 2 , change the Limits , Up to 1200 Mhz at Core , Save the BIOS File.

After that , you have to Update BIOS Flashing BIOS modificated at Graphic Card using Atiflash.

On MS-DOS at USB Boot device , copy Atiflash 3.75 and BIOS File to Flashing.

Atiflash uses commands at MS-DOS , like this :

atiflash -p 0 "new.bin" -f

That command flash BIOS file named new.bin on adapter "cero".

You need Flash and modificated two BIOS of 5970 , The Master file and Slave file.

Regards !!! ;)

Yep , I know how but that area is grayed out on me for Methods 1 & 2 . I can change the core & memory freq. but I cant save it .

Try to uses method 2 , is very simple , move the bar up to 1200 MHz , and for Save , is the same that Load Bios at Menu is Save Bios....

Ximi , I got core 0 & 1 bios saved with RBE at 1200 / 1500 mhz core . Now I need to set up my flash drive with ATI flash and the new bios files and go to DOS and flash .

Ximi , when I'm in RBE and search for winflash RBE finds it but winflash freezes my rig as soon as its found or when I open up winflash on its own it does the same thing freezing my rig , I'm on windows 7 64 bit and I'm bullet proof stable . I'll use atiflash then , I wanted to try the winflash with RBE , oh well .

The best is uses Atiflash at MS-DOS , create a Boot Disk , copy Atiflash 3.75 and BIOS files.

Boot at MS-DOS is more safe for flashing.

Uses that commands :

atiflash -p 0 "name_bios".rom -f ( for flash master Bios )

atiflash -p 1 "name_bios".rom -f ( for flash slave Bios )

"cero" is for adapter number "cero".

For See the adapters promt : atiflash -ai

See the info before flashing.

It's all.

Regards !!! ;)

Ximi , I went in DOS with the RBE uplimited clocks files and flashed and said reboot to complete but upon reboot nothing at all . I'm waiting for a card in the mail so I can recover original bios . Surprised it didn't flash the RBE bios files . This time I will add -f in the command . Today or tomorrow I will be able to recover and try again on the modded bios . I sent you a pm also .

How much cards you are installed ?

See the correct adapter : atiflash -ai

Please note the numbers of original bios 0,1,2,3,4 and falsh it with order.

The first adapter is Master and Second the Slave.

Take note it , if you flashing incorrect order can damge card.

I dont know if I can send to you the BIOS files modificated , it should be made for you own , I think.

Hello ,

Read last post again , it's all explained.

For Unlocking :

atiflash -unlockrom "number_adapter"

For Flashing :

atiflash -p "number_adapter" "file_name_bin_rom_with_extension" -f

For Locking Rom again :

atiflash -lockrom "number_adapter"

Note :

number of adapter , 0 or 1

See it with command :

atiflash -ai

it shows info , numbers of adapters , and see wich is the Master and Slave Bios and adapter.

file name .....

it have extension .bin or .rom

Regards !!! ;)
