RamboOC
Why did Intel lock overclocking via BLCK with sandy bridge and later cpu's? How is it locked?
Apfelkuchen
It is now tied to the PCIe clock, and if that gets too high, well, devices don't like it.
Samsarulz
Why did Intel lock overclocking via BLCK with sandy bridge and later cpu's? How is it locked? Its not completely locked but is far away from what we have seen on 1st generation (X58-P55) and farthest from 775 (almost everything was BCLK). Just as Apfelkuchen said, is tied to PCIe and other stuff so almost all CPUs can reach 105 MHz, then some golden can do 110 MHz and just a few can handle over 110 MHz (114 MHz is the max I´ve seen so far).
