I'd like to let you know that we've published the review of the eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTS 512MB graphics card.

A year and a month later actually...

11th November 2006: nVIDIA Releases their new flagship card, the GeForce 8800GTX 768MB based on the G80 Core built on TSMC's 90nm Low-K manufacturing process, and amazed the enthusiasts & gamers around the globe with its stunning performance.

6 months later there are rumors about the next high end GPU from nVIDIA... expecting even higher performance, fake or not information, suggested release dates, etc. People expected the classic 11th November 2007 launch date for their next flagship...

It's November 2007 finally... but still nothing from nVIDIA. But hey! There's nothing interesting from ATi in the high end sector as well...

Several reasons and "causes" gave us what we've received a month later, in December 2007: the G92 Core and it's first "variants", the GeForce 8800GT 512MB and the GeForce 8800GTS 512MB.

 

11th December 2007: nVIDIA releases the GeForce 8800GT 512MB and the GeForce 8800GTS 512MB based on the G92 Core built on TSMC's 65nm Low-K manufacturing process.

 

Hey! Wait a second... this is not a new high end graphics card, is it ?

No, it's not. It's a new graphics card using the G92 core which is actually a "refined" G80 core and built on TSMC's 65nm Low-K process instead of 90nm Low-K.

Despite the GTS name and the confusion with the previously released GTS cards, the GeForce 8800GTS 320MB & GeForce 8800GTS 640MB, this new 8800GTS 512MB performs better than those, and even better than the 8800GTX 768MB.

The new GeForce 8800GT 512MB is performing better than the 8800GTS 320MB/640MB and a tad worse than the GeForce 8800GTX 768MB.

What's interesting about these cards then ?

Their prices. Even at launch, the cards were priced relatively cheap, and "everyone" could afford a 8800GT 512MB.

March 2008: Nowadays, you can buy a GeForce 8800GT 512MB with 180$ / 160 euros, and a GeForce 8800GTS 512MB with 260$ / 240 euros.

We're also expecting another G92 based product in April, the GeForce 9800GTX 512MB ( heck, they launch the GeForce "9" Series with a GeForce 8 core ), expected price: 310$ / 290 euros.

 

We've purchased a eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTS 512MB and installed it on our test system to check out its performance, overclockability & if it's worth the 260$ price tag.

We also have a Radeon HD3870 512MB GDDR4 graphics card to compare our GeForce 8800GTS 512MB with in various benchmarks and games, so... go ahead, and let's start by checking out the eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTS 512MB graphics card!

 

It's curtains down time at the BenchZone HQ, the security guards are currently securing the very last windows & locking the doors, and I have about half a minute to end this review and get out of the building before they lock me in for the night!

Right, and the Golden Globe award goes to the... eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTS 512MB!

 

Ok, it's 'bout time I get my serious look again.

I've been using the eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTS 512MB graphics card for the past 3 weeks, I've tortured it with demanding games, overclocked the hell out of it, benchmarked it at very high frequencies and high voltages...still with the stock cooler, and granted some decent scores.

Overally, the GeForce 8800GTS 512MB is a powerful graphics card, with relatively good power consumption, runs any game that you throw at it smoothly at resolutions under 1920x1440, and also operates very quietly.

And not to forget, comes at a great price ( and grants a very good performance/price ratio ).

 

I have no hesitations at all, and I can surely tell you that if you're gaming at 1280x1024/1680x1050/1600x1200 you'll be more than satisfied with the performance of this card in every game.
