slngsht Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I don't know how well these guys overclock. I'm on the fence of whether to get the q9650 or the qx9650 for the unlocked multi for this board. If these boards have low fsb walls, I'm thinking I would get a higher overclock with the QX9650 vs the q9650. I know the QX is a C0 stepping, which would limit the overall overclock, but the q would be limited to an overclock anyways if the board has a low fsb wall. Thoughts? Quote
Christian Ney Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 (edited) FSB wall on mine (SATA2 R2) is around 305 Mhz Edited December 17, 2010 by Christian Ney Quote
Crew Antinomy Posted December 17, 2010 Crew Posted December 17, 2010 The -SATA2 can go to 320MHz. The -VSTA can go up to 350. Quote
Crew Turrican Posted December 17, 2010 Crew Posted December 17, 2010 mine unmodded does ~300-310mhz. a cpu with a high multi/free multi is the best choice. Quote
slngsht Posted December 17, 2010 Author Posted December 17, 2010 I seriously appreciate the info guys! Quote
slngsht Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 So I went ahead and got one. What a piece of garbage I received. Mine somehow has the PT880 Pro chipset instead of the Ultra. FSB wall on it is 290, and I can't get it to run a higher multiplier than 10 on my qx6700. I can physically enter in any multiplier my heart desires (from 6 to 60), save settings, restart, then bam, it's back to 10. /facepalm This is with the 2.39a bios. http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1592842 Quote

Crew Turrican Posted January 14, 2011 Crew Posted January 14, 2011 I will have a QX6850, I will told you if I have same problems i think it's "i will tell you". afair you have to set the fsb to "auto" in order to change multis. Quote
slngsht Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 afair you have to set the fsb to "auto" in order to change multis. Confirmed. I set it to auto and could change the multi and have it stick. Time to learn how to voltmod. Thanks again guys! Quote
