  1. While i wait for copy cat hwbot site to pop up to give this site some competition... here is a different approach to this "team ranking situation" just in case anyone else out there is listening:

Leave community rankings just as they are and stop referring to them as team rankings. Community rankings is more appropriate as that is what they are.

Create a team ranking system which consists of an actual team. Real teams have a limited amount of players (soccer, football, rugby, hockey etc.).... start there.

I propose 8 members per team as japan seems to doing well with this number. 15-20 members seems a bit too much. A larger community with lots of members will have internal goal to compete within itself to try and make it to first string... :) Meanwhile if they aren't first string, they still contribute to the community.

Leave it to the team captain to choose who he/she wishes to be on his/her team.

    Here is another thought...

Now that we have a real team with an exact amount of players, it would only make sense that we have an exact amount of hardware (instead of all hardware ever created) that is eligible for points!

Create of list of eligible hardware (100 pieces? 200 pieces?), why not start with the most popular for now.. there is no need to include your entire database for team points.

To keep it interesting, modify your list of eligible hardware every quarter to include new hardware, remove old hardware, or even add really old hardware which would probably force the team captain to revise his/her team.

    :battle:

Not a bad idea at all

  2. One man team will not 'dominate the team rankings indefinitly'. A team with a series of very-capable, well-motivated overclockers will do just fine.

    Actually it is quite possible.

If not one man, 2 or 3 can.

Assuming that the man/3men have awesome CPU's, they can buy the most popular and point-worthy hardware ( most of them come cheap, GF8 series, GF7, Radeon 1xxx ) and grind.

A 6.4-6.5GHz 3D capable CPU can be your ticked to multiple HW categories domination.

  3. what's the point of this vote since you don't listen to forum feedback anyway?

I see an excuse like "hwbot has a zillion of users but only ~200 have voted in this thread therefore it does not represent the whole community" coming...

One of the very few times that I can TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU SAM.

    Thanks!

    List of excuses:

    1. Multiple choice poll: The staff or somebody can say that the poll results are a mixed bag.

    2. We want to keep HW sharing to the minimum, so alt #1 is the best option in our eyes, hw sharing is barely beneficial for the team rankings, so it's all good ( we don't care about the individual rankings ) [ good money-making opportunity for the first guy to open a binned hardware leasing company :D ]

    3. Only 200 ppl have voted

Yes, we know that we could place the poll in HWbot's main page but it needs some serious coding.

Oh and it wouldn't be any different, most people wouldn't pay any attention to it or vote.

    4. We could also do it in a way which would require every single member to cast his vote simply by making it a mandatory poll, any user who hasn't cast his vote would get to a poll page to cast his vote, voting page won't go away and the user won't be able to submit any new results before he casts his vote.

But that won't be ok again, because the Japanese & Chinese can't understand it as our beloved friend Pieter says.

[ The Japanese & Chinese are very smart and good people, and somebody can translate the poll page to Japanese/Chinese/Mandarin & the rest for the ones who don't understand English well or at all ]

  4. Hm, XP didn't give me to change Aquamark's priority - "access denied" that's what taskmanager was talking about.

This tweak is about application-specific driver optimizations like it was with 3DMark 2001 and all the rest of em, right?

Does the score change only on NV or cards of both manufacturers?

Setting AquaMark 3's priority in Windows XP for noobs, page 1:

    Open a CMD window

    Type CD C:\Program Files\AquaMark3folderpath [ press enter ]

    type aquamark.exe /realtime

    And you're a happy noob.

you can add /affinity XX to set the affinity as well.

wheres xx you need to enter the appropriate value depending on which cores you want AquaMark3 to use.

  5. Bill, for the love of all things overclocking please stop hyping up whatever dirt you have and just spill it. First you claim you were waiting on hosting. Did you know Blogger and Wordpress offer free hosting? I just spent 30 seconds registering http://benchzowner.blogspot.com/ for you and another 10 minutes populating it with creative content I feel is similar to what you'll be posting. Feel free to contact me for the login credentials.

    That's so nice of you.

Reflects your personality, ethics and character PERFECTLY.

When you grow up shoot me a PM.

  6. No more posting in here.

Start a thread now, and post the links, how hard is that.

I don't need hints, I want hard proof. show me the links.

Edit and Ps: I can't see any scores for a W3570 posted by Jody ever.

Because you want it so much, hit me up on MSN now.

  7. Bill,

You obviously know far, far more than me, and I'm a member of Pure.

If you can show me right now (you must have something or you are all BS) where Andre, Nick and Jody are cheating on Hwbot.

I don't want to see cheating going on as much as the next guy, in my team or others.

If anyone is angry at you, it is your fault, you are calling members cheats yet post no proof.

Link me to the scores in the database that are cheated now, no more BS...show me the proof.

Trust me, I have all the proof you need.

I won't spill the beans now though.

If you want a hint, W3570

  8. I kindda like your thoughts behind topic 4 in ya post. Plus maybe indeed it's better to have a private forum for Team Captains and the Staff to work out things more in a more relaxed private environment...

    Don't discriminate people.

    That's a very bad idea.

  9. 2. Why do some guys bring up the example "10 GHz i7-980X + 4x GTX 480 @ 2.000/2.000 MHz will be shared and rule the ranking" (yeah, as you might notice I changed the achievable frequencies to a insolent level, so it´s more frightening, isn´t it?) again and again and again? Does this happen/did it ever happen?

I'm pretty sure at least some Team Pure members are and will be more angry at me anytime soon, but it's not my fault, I'm not the one who did stupid things.

By the way, I have nothing against Pure as a team and of course nothing against Vince or some of their members, but I do have quite a lot of things against some of their members.

Those who think that I'm working on a personal agenda, just wait & see.

    On topic now Hyperhorn...

Three names ( maybe there's more to it, I need to do some more google-cache-digging & proof ):

    Andre, Nick, Jody.

  10. What do you guys not like about hardware sharing anyway? Only reasons I can see against it are a) some whiny guy doesn't get to borrow it and complains or b) hwbot wants you to buy more hardware instead of making efficient use of a team's resources.

Then again this update minus well remove teams altogether, or make the max team size 5 members. Goes along with what's already being done quite well.

With the current ranking system ( rev3 ) hardware sharing can easily be a competition killer.

    How ? Let's say that I have a golden 980X capable of benching all the 3D Marks & AquaMark @ 6.6GHz - 6.8GHz, and the 2D's @ 6.9GHz.

Since I'm daydreaming allow me to say that I also happen to have a 1450MHz GPU / 1350MHz MEM GTX 480 graphics card.

Put those 2 together and you have top3 places on any benchmark if you know how to overclock those & basically tweak the benchmarks.

    I do so.

And then pass both my CPU & VGA ( or the whole setup since you have nothing against hardware sharing ) to 10 teammates of mine...

There you go, me & my 9 buddies in the top 10, and a huge advantage for my team.

Hardware sharing is kinda killed when it comes to team rankings with rev4, but the main issue with hardware sharing, the individual overclocker rankings remain untouched, people will continue to share their HW to get their personal account a higher rank.

  11. What's the point of doing something that you don't really like and have fun doing ?

"I bench for this", "we bench for that".

Sadly the vast majority of people out there take their ranking & team ranking very seriously.

And taking something that seriously is what makes the "weak" people bend or break the rules in any way.

On that matter, I have some scores I can share, who wants some free points for his profile & team ?
