  1. I just paid the price BIG TIME! had the 32M clarkdale WR and lost it all! @ Massman I know its friday night and you are probably with the lady or getting your swerve on at the bar. When you get online again maybe you can help me and my buddies out. We got a 4min 32m run with my i3 540, Geordi was able to fix the mitx board by submerging the whole board in a mixture of Worf's Klingon blood wine and some experimental concoction Guinan had had been working on after hours in ten forward. Basically she was making moonshine in her ships quarters and trading it illegally to the Ferengi's. Star fleet command started to get suspicious so freaked out and flushed it all down the toilet but kept one bottle. we didnt manage to get a screen shot because Data had his emotion chip installed and got so excited we got that 4 min run he knocked over Picard's beer and spilled all over the bench drive and then I saw some sparks and it all went south. it ended up killing the mitx board that we spent 2 days fixing, the i3 540, the best elpida hyper kit I had and my 5850!! Can you please see if you can make an exception for me? I've basically lost the majority of my best hardware from participating in this contest and came close to breaking my 35L dewar. I dont have anything to show for it other than this crappy jpg counselor Troi took with her iphone.
  2. ME4ME posted the link for us back in the 70s in the middle of the thread. the link and the instructions are there I just never read it. *******edit here it is**** http://www.ocxtreme.org/forumenus/showthread.php?t=3469 the only thing that baffles me is the countdown thing. 35 seconds is so long and i'm pouring ln2 and wasting it to keep the temp stable. then if that box is checked its going C/ to D/ to /C: to / D with 35s in between each drive so so its almost 3min has gone by and you're just blowing through ln2. does it matter if i set it lower so Its like 15 sec? On another note I went to get my dewar filled after work. I just got home. I got a huge scare! I was taking the dewar out of the back seat and got it on my skateboard. so I could roll it into my building. I get it on the skateboard but its not my usual board. its my friend petes. He has a 7.75 and I usually have 8in wide deck so there is better support. So i leave it on the sidewalk and I go to lock the door to the car with my key because I havent bothered to change the battery in the keychain remote. As im locking the door I hear a "SLAM" and see vapor everywhere. (Take note this is on a new york city sidewalk but lucky there werent many pedestrians. ) im also wearing sunglasses and gloves and a snowboarding jacket to protect myself when Im squeezing it out of the rear seat. the most dangerous part of the whole mission. Anyway I run around the car and get the dewar upright again. I check for any damage. the only thing i noticed is the plastic rim at the top is slightly bent but there is no leakage or dents. I had the withdrawal unit attached and that didnt get bent or snapped off. it couldve been much worse. This is a massive $1600.00 35L taylor wharton xt. The same one I roll in at the begging of the oc music video.
  3. wow 5-6 seconds? I didnt think it would make that big of a difference. I need to go back and mess around more. Thanks man. @chew. thanks I cant believe your ln2 is so cheap. I pay $70 plus tax in the city to fill the 35L. I brought it to work. I just found a guide to work that ocx thing. man.... I was way off!
  4. wheres msi max live? whats you ln2 situation? when do they close? can we get it on the weekend? PM me on xs or here. and what is with sams submissions? is he out? I figured he just took them down and hes clocking like crazy so everyone else thinks they have a chance then tuesday night he puts up 2 runs that make everyone run the other way.
  5. I don't want to push my luck but is it you cool with you if I bring 2 of my buddies? ones a black guy and the other dude is a robot. They are really nice and will throw down on the Ln2. The robot can do beer runs or go to Radio Shack if we run into trouble. because he's a robot and alcohol doesn't really slow him down. We go bar hopping all the time in nyc and no matter how many drinks he's had he always insists the he drives to the next spot. the black guy is the head engineer on a space ship so bios settings are like 2nd nature to him. seriously chew, I think it would be better if we planned for next weekend when the contest ends tues night. so if I drive up friday night and we bench all day saturday or something like that. I think if you are doing tedious data collection for a review and you have this total stranger with a star trek uniform on pouring ln2 in your living room you will drop everything and want to bench too and then you have someone that gave you the product to review asking for your results. And you tell him "oh man i'm sorry I invited trans am over to bench and he just started asking all these dumb questions and I felt obligated to help him out because he drove all the way to Rhode Island from new york with a full 35L taylor wharton dewar in the back seat of his car and ln2 was splashing all over because he blew his money on german racing suspension on a 10 year old volvo but he can't afford to buy a 2nd mitx board for the contest. ....so he finally gets to my house in the middle of the night and im already in bed and he's tapping my doorbell button like its a F10 key! I open the door and he has about a 1/3rd left of ln2 and he's already asking me whats for breakfast? chew. email or pm me so we can make a plan. I think we should do this. I'm just joking earlier. I'm actually pretty mellow and respectful/professional. the oc forums make me want to do the comedy routine.
  6. massman what the hell is that aircooler doing on that board? Its cool that you got the massive thing to contact. but what about the 1stage cooler? I want to see you get in the 2nd stage with the better cooling. on another note, I took the burned mitx board off and the 655k is in the graveyard so last night I took my i3 540 and insulated the mitx big brother (h55m-ud2h) I had about 1/16 of 35L of ln2 to work with and no settings saved and started from scratch after I got home from work. I wish I was a little more ballsy but I think I got a decent score considering i was only at 5.3ghz http://hwbot.org/community/submission/1041807_trans_am_superpi_32m_core_i3_540_7min_43sec_157ms I downloaded this ocx tweak thing and I have no idea. what the hell I was doing. I basically plugged in a raptor so that could be waza drive. bench disk /os was on a 64gb c300 using the entire drive as the partition since its ssd. Then I open spi and selected 32m and before hitting start I opened task manager and set task manager to lowest priority then set spi at realtime and minimized task window. Then I open the ocx thing and dialed in spi partion as c (c300) and 2nd partition to the raptor. heres the ss. I hit clean then burn then run. and the thing counts down for 35seconds and closes then I run the 32m bench. I have no idea if it helped. i think I have the settings totally wrong but I'm reluctant to ask for help because of Chews thread on xs. I'm not asking for anything specific. i just need to know what the hell I'm doing. for example. what is the check box for CDT and IV mean? is there a thread somewhere that has the basics for this thing? Chew what are you doing this weekend?
  7. massman keep it up buddy. get that single stage strapped on asap. I want to show you guys some pics of my board and cpu if that okay with everyone. I have a bad habit of leaving the board after a session and going to bed. You've all been there. Its 6am..you can barely reset the cmos jumper on the board let alone set your clocks. You've more than a few beers, You started benching 8 hrs ago and you are completely spent. You just cant wait to get in the bed. So you take as much off the board as you can without breaking or dropping something. my usual routine is: unplug the atx, 12v headers, ram, sata and vga card and leave the board sitting there with the cpu container still cranked to hell and its frozen stiff. "oh thats cool...I'll just let it do its thing...it'll evaporate... ... this has been my bench routine since I got a container. It finally caught up with me and it cost me a 655k and my board for the contest. The only other thing I can think of was before I turned it on, I had a hairdryer plugged into a powerstrip that was heating up insulation on another board and the hairdryer caused a surge and it shut off the powerstrip the psu was plugged into that was connected to the mitx board but the psu still works and the ram still does. so I seriously doubt that was it. after looking at the pics I think its pretty obvious. on the backside of the board images I posted, look at all the white spots on the atx area and the dimm slots. its all oxidized to hell. ..Even after 2 coats of this crap. http://www.hmcelectronics.com/cgi-bin/scripts/product/1530-0098/Chemtronics-CTAR12 (dont buy it) it leaves a cloudy white film on the pcb and it doesnt provide much protection and unreliable. I dont know why i bought it but I wanted to try something new. Its crap! the one that always worked was this one: http://www.mgchemicals.com/products/419b.html anyway, back to the problem. http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff94/jackalsmith/mitx%20TA%20fubar%20pics/ Is there anyway to fix the board or apply something that will clean if off? kind of like putting your old rusted skateboard bearings in gasoline and soaking them overnight? I have a little ln2 left so I'm gonna mount the h55m ud2h with a i3 540 and see if I can get some better pi runs than I previously submitted. I'm so tempted to get on the egg and order a replacement. I still have a 660 that still works.
  8. I can tell you guys haven't prayed yet cause it midnight and neither the board or cpu works still. I swapped again and again and both are dead. I wish all of you the best in this contest. Unless there is a miracle and a board shows up on my doorstep I'm out of the contest. I had fun while it lasted.
  9. I 2nd that question also I'd like to tell you guys I think the itx board is dead. It wont post / power on at all. I swapped cpus but i3 540 is same thing. Its definitely not the psu. I noticed the cb i drew on the 655k was starting to wear off. Should I wipe it all off including the resistor on the board and see if thats the problem? I tried the 655k in my h55m-ud2h and it will spin on and then shut off and loop. no post. tried 1 stick and same crap. Im praying to the ocing gods I didnt kill that 655k and the mitx. I'm gonna wipe the 655k off completely clear of ink and try it again in the h55m-ud2h. If it posts then my next step is wiping the mitx board clear of mods. the only thing I did on the mitx board was short the top resistor with ink. if its not that then the board is cashed and I'm out of the contest. I have no more money this month to buy another one. I'd appreciate it if all of you could take a moment of silence and say a silent prayer to the Mighty Gods of Overclocking on this beautiful August night. Let us pray: "Dear mighty Overclocking Gods, We thank you for creating this contest for us. It has brought us all together despite our differences, location, ethnicity, overclocking level of experience, etc. etc. We have all come together in the name of overclocking during these turbulent times to overclock to the best of our ability in the name of Massman. We honor your faithful disciples at gigabyte technology. (bless them for creating this motherboard) But today a dark shadow has been cast upon one of our fellow brothers, Trans Am. he is need of your hardware healing powers tonight. Please lead him through his hardware woes and show him the righteous path so we can all be together again in harmony and overclocking spirit. Please guide our fellow brothers Chew, Cookie Monster, dino, massman, george and everyone else through the hardware darkness and shed your light and let us all stay in harmony with our brave and faithful brother Uncle Sam (sam ocx). He has made us all proud and we rejoice in his overclock....in the name of the hardware ....the software ....and the holy clocks -Amen."
  10. awww crap. I got all excited when I saw dino was gonna start benching so after spending the last week getting the os straight I put the itx back in. (note I didnt change anything since I had it on last, container was still on. all i did was take the mem out and unplug all the headers and the vga card and set it aside. so I just plugged it all in and no post, no fans. no power to the board at all. I just took it all off and looked at the cpu top and bottom look perfect. pins and socket look perfect. so no burns here. I took all the eraser off and the bottom insulation. wiped it clean and just put the stock hs on and same crap. no power..nothing. took all the ram out and vga. made sure slots are clear of any crap that might be shorting it out. its clean. gonna try a new psu and swap cpus. any other ideas please post. I just had the i3540 and h55m-ud2h on this same psu and it was fine. brb.
  11. dino are u benching this week? Im about to strap it on again.
  12. cookie that bottom pic. I was up to -150 by just shorting the top resistor. do you think I should take down the insulation and do yours? Also the offset vcore mod. is it worth it? I just dont feel like taking it all apart.
  13. Uncle sam. Im curious what temps you were at on that run on the cpu container. i'm totally blown away that you were able to fit a sb container and the ram pot in there. holy crap! I have about a 1/4 tank of ln2 left. I wasted so much screwing with the tweaks. tonight I just plugged in the ud2n and im screwing around with the os. It just keeps getting worse and worse. i need to start all over. sorry for the quick post before. You deserve some serious praise for this one. The Overclocking Gods are proud of you. We all are!

  15. right now im on the last qpi setting to auto. THis is the highest setting. its booting in but I keep screwing up by shooting too much ln2 in. I did a crazy 1m run for you guys. I'll post it. I tried all night messing with the os tweaks but I dont get the copy waza at all. I reinstalled win on a 60gb vertex2 and took half for the os and the other half for the 2nd partition in windows drive manage. I did the reg mem tweak aand set to 1. I dont know whats going on. I jsut started benching again. raw dog style I kicked my last scores ass by a few seconds. and that 1m run was pretty good. I went 1 up on the qpi but im still around 5.6-5.8 area. just trying to keep things stable at this point.
  16. How cold can you possibly get on this board? All I did was that 1st resistor (the top one) then I did the regular cpu mod cookiemonster did in the CBB clarksdale thread. I can cold boot at -125 and bench in windows (highest i went was -150c) how cold can this thing get?
  17. SAm that is amazing! crash or no crash. What were the temps? Did you have similar temps as me? higher? get in here man. you run out of juice or the did the wife come home? goddamn it guys. get your crap done so we can all play. massman you too. dino? quit getting high with tim and my rich uncle fess. and wheres my rhode island friend chew? Chew get yer arse in here! lets roll! cmon, lets start some static! cmon! lets roll!
  18. thank you MAster. I cant believe this board. that was a raw win install no os tweaking. mem can go further, qpi maybe. I was seriously intoxicated during that bench. That cpu did 6.3 before and that was at a -90c cb. I was at -140 at crap volts, crap mem/qpi/no tweaks. I think I can squeeze a few more seconds in the future. this board is unbelievable!
  19. @massman. this contest mustve been forged by the mighty OVERCLOCKING GODS in the sky.. I'm so happy for this contest! I dont care who wins. I dont think its the point. Its a bunch of friends getting together and helping each other on this little motherboard that is truly ground breaking. mitx boards have been around for a while now but this is the 1st time a mitx has gone this far in the clocking dept. Its about fackin time! I've gone through so many boards this year for clarksdales and this board is doing better in clocks and cold bug / qpi and than all of them and its a mitx board. is it just me or are you guys totally freaked out by this little thing?
  20. THanks admin for fixing it. I was able to submit. I'll see what else I can do in the meantime. THanks for the tips guys. I'm surprised none of you commented that I was able to get in and actually get that score at -140c. That is fackin' mind blowing for me as Ive never had anything work that cold before. ALso I mustve done a decent job insulating because I didnt put grease in the ram or the socket and I benched for 8hrs straight friday night and i didnt have a single problem. maybe not a big deal if I was on a full-sized board because everythings more spaced out but it blows me away that I didnt run into problems when the ram is basically on top of the cpu socket and the critical components are so close. so much couldve gone wrong and didnt. pretty amazing imo. what gets me is it took me 8hrs. to get only 7m17s. hahahaha oh well. **********edit. holy crap I just noticed I just got 2nd place 32m 655k spot (after "the thunder from down under" aka dino) and I unlocked something other than found the submit button.. kick ass man! wow! this little board kicks serious ass! -Alvin (TA)
  21. Why wont it let me subimit my score? I did the stage one but my stage 2 wont submit. I get the follwing msg: error An unexpected error occured when saving your result. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again later. Message: 'org.apache.torque.TorqueException: com.mysql.jdbc.MysqlDataTruncation: Data truncation: Data too long for column 'system' at row 1' wtf??? well this is what Im trying to submit: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1335411 I guess I have 1st place but stupid error wont take my submission. im going to bed. Thanks chew for the right point to mod. i had it past -145 from -70. U made it happen buddy. for the record i did no os tweaks as I dont really have any idea except disabling services and running in real time before the bench. other than that this is totally raw overclocking.
  22. well that took care of the cold bug. Chew nailed the spot. that 1st resistor at the top is definitely it. I can cold boot at much lower than -70c now. I dont know why im screwing around on stage one with a clarksdale. Is that extra 4mb in cache on lynnfield my problem or is it that I need to tweak my reg? (wazza/large system cache/max mem hacks) I just installed winxp 32 on a vertex2 with no updates. I killed as much as I could in services. other than that I just installed the chipset and gfx drivers.
  23. okay sorry this is taking so long. I bought these skinny rods and they strip easily so I just cut down some thicker ones with a dremel. I have 2 containers. the one Im using on this board is the skinnier one for obvious reasons. This thing looks totally ridiculous with a container mounted. thanks to gigabyte for making this contest. Its rad to see something this small that can actually clock with its bigger brothers. Its really amazing and if Ive gained anything so far the 1st stage has made me really focus on tightening everything down. Ever since I got the containers ive focused on the thrill of having cold and getting cpu as high as I can. this 1st stage has really made me concentrate on my ram and qpi and Im on clarlsdale so Im just pushing even harder to keep up with everyone else on lynnfield. thanks guys. thanks dino for being one of the 1st to show us the potential of this thing. Lemme get these rods in so i can start clocking.
