Crew Turrican Posted October 26, 2008 Crew Posted October 26, 2008 i think there should be no problem with any windows os dunno about linux, or if the benchmarks will run there Quote
knopflerbruce Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 can we use any os to run benchmarks or are some not aloud thanks baz For some stupid reason, Linux isn't allowed when you bench superpi:D This is a bit funny, as there were a few hot discussions about cost of software, and OS cost was a huge part of those discussions. WIth Linux it would be totally free! Quote

Hak Foo Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I'm amazed nobody's made a Linux-based bootable CD which runs a suite of benchmarks on any PC you cram it into, then writes the results to a USB keychain. That would enable easy "bulk benching" too-- just set up CPU/mobo/minimal memory/CD drive/USB stick and go, no "two hours to install enough OS to bench that K6" Quote
Massman Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 It's just not possible to compare results of two completely different platforms. It's purely a matter of compatibility of scores; that's why, for instance, speedhacks are illegal as well. Surely, one could get a better score, but the test environments are nowhere near similar.
