September 5, 201212 yr Author SamSaveMax, may I ask why in your last submission, on the verification image, the wPrime shows an Intel Pentium III Xeon processor? The CPU-Z shows it as a 3770k, which is an Ivy Bridge... but the Xeon isn't... - I thought that we should use only Ivy Bridge in this competition...
September 6, 201212 yr wPrime doesn't always report CPU's id properly. It's CPUZ is what you should checking on. Here is an example on one of the submission which wPrime also falsely indicated. http://hwbot.org/submission/2307634_xcero_wprime_32m_core_i7_3770k_4sec_609ms Edited September 6, 201212 yr by SamSaveMax
September 6, 201212 yr Author LOL, it's funny that the 3770k it's recognized as a Pentium III... But I found some new setting for my setup! I will be home in an hour and submitting it as soon as I can...
September 6, 201212 yr That new 5.334ms score is excellent ZKA17. I love a tough challenge. It's time to roll up some sleeves.
September 6, 201212 yr good job and xeons are allowed as long as they are new ivy bridge models on socket 1155 such as Xeon E3-1280 v2
September 6, 201212 yr Author Thanks, SamSaveMax and Newlife! I'm not sure that I can do much better (or any better) with my current setup... running out of ideas...
September 6, 201212 yr I need to swap OS's, that entry was on my daily system with a bit of in-windows OCing to hunt for the right clocks. This weekend I'll probably have a chance to take a bit of time off of reviews and attack it a bit.
September 7, 201212 yr Don't give up just yet ZKA17. Those Dominator should be able to pull it through. Proof in my screenshot were using inexpensive RipjawsX. @Bobnova, hehe...for a movement I thought you might not coming back and let me be. Let's put it on!(slim chance for me though)
September 7, 201212 yr Author Good job, SamSaveMax! I may give an another try... but as I said, I feel that I'm really close to the limits... I'm planning to sweat some nice GTX480s and I have to tear down my system for installing a second water loop... I had to order some fittings for it... - I guess, I can still try until they arrive...
September 11, 201212 yr Author So, I finished upgrading my TestBench... added a new loop and the GTX480... I put back the TridentX memories for 3D benching for the start - but used them now for the wPrime 32M too...
September 12, 201212 yr Author Thank you, SamSaveMax! I think, I found a nice spot of the memory for this benchmark...
September 18, 201212 yr I got to hand it to ya! Even the fastest bencher of i7-3770K wPrime32M on air couldn't compete with that score. Congrats
September 18, 201212 yr 312ms is all I've got. Don't really have time to delve into the ram subtimings sadly.
September 18, 201212 yr Same here, 5.312ms is max for this clock speed. @ZKA17 are you using Windows 7? Edited September 18, 201212 yr by SamSaveMax
September 18, 201212 yr Author Sorry for missing the last moments of this challenge! Thank you all for this opportunity! Without newlife starting this and SamSaveMax beating my score all the time, I would not spent the time to learn so much... Yes, I was using the Windows 7 - at the beginning with a lot of applications running in background... Then I realized that disconnecting the from the network and stopping the AV makes a difference. Then I just went and stopped all the services... - those were done with the Dominator GTs. I rebuilt my system for testing some graphics card and swapped back the TridentX memories... and just applied what I learned with the Dominator GTs... in this case it was about the memory settings as the CPU speed was locked - so just played around with timings...
September 18, 201212 yr That's one Windows 7 that you've got there. I've never seen anyone that uses Windows 7 and actually beaten Windows XP when it comes down to wPrime competiton. In the end, it's not the ram that played an important role as much as the CPU'S speed and which Operatiing System was used. I have the exact same TridentX that you have used...but no luck. Here is a list of rams with much lower CL and various rams speeds that I've tried and still could not be able to knockoff your score. Lastly on the last attached picture, even with CPU closest to target 4318MHz couldn't do it either. Ultra 676-18-1T 1600mhz 5.238 4316.79MHz wPrime32 8GB TridentX 10-12-12-31-1T 2260mhz 5.327 TridentX F3-2400CL10-8GTX 4315.34MHz wPrime32 x86-4GB 686-19-1T 5.327 RipjawsX F3-12800CL7-4GBXM 4315.24MHz wPrime32 x86-787-19-1T 5.327 RipjawsX F3-12800CL8-4GBXM x43 GSKILL F3-12800CL9-4GBRL 788-21-1T 1600mhz 5.327 RipjawsX F3-12800CL9-4GBRL x42+102.79bclk GSKILL F3-16000CL9-2GBRH 676-20-1T-54fRC 1600mhz 5.327 Ripjaws F3-16000CL9-2GBRH x41 + 105.3 Gskill F3-16000CL9-2GBRH 787-20-1T-54tRC 1900MHz 5.312 Edited September 18, 201212 yr by SamSaveMax
September 18, 201212 yr Author Well, I guess, after a certain point there is about luck too... Maybe, in my case, beginners luck? I'm sure that you would get even better results with this kit of RAM! I don't know if the advertised speed would make a difference, but my kit is rated at 2600MHz... used only at 1600 with much tighter timings... (went down to 7-7-7-21, but the score was not as great as with this 7-8-8-22) And I also played with the secondary and tertiary timings too. Regarding the OS, as I said, all services were stopped when running wPrime. I'm setting up a benching system with the XP soon, so I will see how that goes...
September 18, 201212 yr One of those screenshots shown with faster lantency of 6-7-6-18-1T with 54tRC subtiming just incase you have missed. Luck? XP yes, but not with Windows 7 Here TrindentX with 7-8-8-18-1T 156tRC with 1684MHz
September 19, 201212 yr Author Well, what to do then?! I've got an idea... let's set up a new challenge and unleash the CPU's speed (or set it differently)... the only limitation to be the ambient cooling... - what you say? You would have the chance to get a revanche...
