Air vs Standard stock cooling (cpu)

Featured Replies

Hoping to get clarification on how I should categorize my cpu cooler. I have an older Sempron 64 on a 754 socket that I'd like to build up again and run a few benchmarks, but found a nice Opteron heatsink & fan in my stash that has a copper base and dual copper heat pipes. It is much nicer than the original Sempron aluminum block. So with it still being an OEM AMD heatsink & fan, does it fall under Standard Stock cooling, or since it is not original to the Sempron, does it then get put into Air Cooling?

Thanks!

Doesn't matter.

Any kind of air cooling is classed the same anyways. It will make no difference how you list it.

I would say "stock cooling" means the same cooler that comes with the CPU, so it should - strictly speaking - be classified as "air cooling" if you use a heatpipe cooler on the older K( cpus that came with alu sinks. However, as Mr. Scott said, it really doesn't matter. Perhaps we could even merge the two.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the responses. To be fair, I will use air cooling in the classification. That way people using the search option for stock cooling will not be misled.
