mcnico63 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Hello all, This morning I wanted to start testing my new 4930K on R4F The trouble is that I did not know at all what she had bios, so I try to flash by .ROM and .CAP but it does not work. I do not know what to do if you have an idea ... thank you Quote
TASOS Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I had the same problem with my RIVE and 4930k. You need a Sandy Bridge-E cpu , so that you can flash to the latest bios (that supports Ivy Bridge-E). If your board has an early bios (ROM type) you need to do the conversion to CAP first (with bios 2105) Quote
der8auer Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Just put the BIOS file on a FAT32 usb drive and rename it to "R4E.CAP" Plug it into the ROG Connect USB Port (the white one) and hold down the ROG Connect button (next to the white USB port) for about 3 seconds until the LED starts flashing. The LED next to your BIOS will also start flashing. This will take few minutes and once the LED is not flashing anymore the BIOS is on the new version. No memory and no CPU needed for that. Just plug in the 24 Pin and the 8 Pin power cables. Quote

You must have an SB-E cpu to do that. Especially if it has an old ROM type bios. Quote
der8auer Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 no. I did it last weekend. It works for sure. Don't put a cpu in the socket. If you have an old ROM bios use the ASUS ROM to CAP converter. Quote
TASOS Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 If you have an old ROM bios use the ASUS ROM to CAP converter. That's the problem. It doesnt let you do the conversion. I was in the same place as mcnico63 , a week ago. read here http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?276839-ASUS-Official-X79-Motherboards-Support-Thread&p=5207481&viewfull=1#post5207481 Quote

TASOS Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 ho okay didn't know that Seems I was lucky because it worked for me. From what i have read ... The bios flashback methology (in this case) works only if your board has a bios version 4004 and later. Quote
