Let's just wait for 99% votes against ES and a voting lot of 1000 people...
-
-
Oh look... a Sandy Bridge ( not an eagle ).
Yes, it's an ES but it's a CPU.
I don't see why I shouldn't submit my scores with it...
edit:
psycho kurumi edit for massman - I don't care
-
Worry not folks, sometime in 2055 HWbot will come up with a great solution...
We'll just have to live with E.S. scores up, because if we disallow them the honest and nice people gunning with those right now will cheat to make the ES look like retail... and that's a bad thing for the community
Oh joy... why don't we bring back OPB too ?
-
So we're not taking a step forward because some people and stupid manufacturers will try to "override" the new rule ? Allllllllrighty...
Since people and manufacturers can also "embrace" hardware sharing, shouldn't we retire the hardware sharing rule too ?
And since some people can also run mipmap for example at X clocks and claim that they run the benchmark at Y clocks ( matching the relative performance ), shouldn't we also remove all the rules in general ?
Let's keep it nice, tidy & simple.
The new rules are...
#1: Be a human being
#2: There's no second rule.
Enjoy...

Doesn't change a thing.
For every bad ES there are hundreds of crappier retails.
The top 5 of each benchmark is getting ESowned.
-
How many people who vote "no points" would quickly GAIN points?
It's biased from both sides
Yeah, every 10pts, 30 global points member will benefit from the 2 gained points to climb to the top...
-
It's 59 to 14 at the moment.
And of the 14 "yes" three of them would lose most of their points once the E.S. hardware gets disallowed.
Oh no, it must be a misconception
-
It's not as bad as presented ?
Ok then captain obvious, let's ask some people ( Andre, Nick, HiCookie, SF3D ) to bin 980X & 670 ES's like crazy, and let you and 49 more overclockers battle against the 4 E.S. people with retail 980X & 670.
Let me preorder some tons of pop corn first
-
When W3570&975 were king (before Gulftown) Andre's top scores were with retail chips, thats what he said.
You do realize that there was no difference between the E.S. and the retail Nehalem's back then right ?
Binning retails was more worthwhile than binning E.S. then.
You had better chances to find a great retail chip than an E.S.
This is obviously not the case with Gulftown and Clarkdale.

Quite ironic that the thread starter here is the same guy who has a sig full of thanks to his sponsors on xs. (I don't mean this as an attack on you Bill, but it's just too prevalent to not note)
That's just wrong, because:
1) They're not my sponsors.
2) They're just people who helped me back when I started reviewing hardware
3) They're not sending me pretested hardware to bench, they're just my contacts that send me random retail samples to review on my site.
p.s.1. My recent scores were obtained with an 980X E.S. CPU ( crappy for most benches, but whatever ), and I'm more than happy to have those removed regardless of the "outcome" regarding the E.S. hardware.
p.s.2. Obviously the ones who have good connections with a few mfc's can also bin retails, but binning retails would be much less harsh than binning E.S.
The best retail out there can't outclock the best E.S.
Actually the best retail out there is a worse clocker than the "mid-class E.S." out there.
Binning E.S. is just making sure that nobody would get past that man, simply because the retails are and from the looks of it will remain worse.
It's way easier to find a "diamond" E.S. than finding a "diamond" retail.
How many good E.S.'s do we have on HWbot ? 20 ? 30 ?
How many good retails do we have on HWbot ?
How many E.S. were tested to get to those 30 great ones ?
How many retails were tested to get to those... 2 ? 3 ?

looking at the ranking without overclockers ...
So, you only consider the ES people as overclockers.
Since the rest are just "category fillers" for you, want to see how things can turn out once people start leaving ?
-
Seeing how the rankings would be with the E.S. scores removed would be a great view to what's behind the curtains...
-
I'm not surprised at all on the votes for the time being.
I wouldn't be surprised to see how many people would quit benching once HWbot stops awarding points ( just be a WR ranking site like ripping.org ).
-
As far as I remember there was an E.S. conversation some years ago, a few months or 1 year after HWbot appeared...
-
That's weird, it worked fine for me & tsan ( maybe you've got another version ? )
-
Yeah I can imagine the pain...
statements from the E.S. holocaust survivors "It was a nightmare, I lost all my good scores and I'm now ranked 50th", "I spent... a few e-mails on getting that cherrypicked E.S. visiting Intel Tajikistan to bench there, and now they took all my 50.000$ worth scores away"
-
Use eLeet Tune GPU George, no limits there
-
Then you'll never remove them because there are people who bought sandy bridge E.S. already, and then they'll buy charlie's chimp E.S. etc
So, stop pretending that you're thinking of a way to make things work, and just say that you will never remove the E.S.
It's that simple.
-
This poll MUST be done in XS and in local forums so to have a REAL sample.....OR else in here it doens't count because a few users comes into these forums....
They'll ignore it because it's "not on HWbot" ( laughs )
But, it's a good idea, would you mind starting it on XS George ?
-
( waiting for all the ES "owners" to vote for option #1 )...
[ I'm so getting confirmed ] { let's see what the "I care for the community, I don't give a sh*t about points, and "life is unfair" people will say/vote }
-
Poll: "Voters: 41"
HWBOT database: "Users: 24567"
//edit: you also missed the point of the post.
Spread the news and get a better sample.
Will the analogy change ? Yeah right
-
It was their decision to spend their money on E.S.
They took the risk, and knew that they might get disallowed sooner or later.
In that case, shall the retail buyers ask for a compensation for making their investments in retail CPU's worthless ?
If an athlete decides to take drugs to enhance his performance, it's his decision, and if he gets caught or a new regulation adding his drug in the disallowed meds list arises, it's his fault and he doesn't deserve a compensation.
After all buying E.S. hardware is illegal.
And well... they can sell them just like they bought them...
-
What we can see from the ES poll is that the vast majority wants to have them removed or non-point awarded.
It's clear and shinny like an uncut diamond.
About being unfair when applied mid-season... there's always something people miss at the startup line, and there's also always a "crack" half-way for someone to introduce something that is clearly wrong and outside the rules ( mipmap maybe ? altered PC Mark maybe ? )...
Fairness is a loose term, and it can be misused ( I was the first one to steal money from a bank, there was no law about it, so I'm legal, and no, you can't write a law about it, because we're in the middle of the game )...
Keeping things as fair as possible is the key.
Not removing the ES with the excuse that people can cheat and use them under the table and with another excuse ( not being able to track the ES VGAs ) is like not allowing the police to check up on suspects because they might get paid by the suspects to say that they're clean...

Actually, it's not Pieter.
It's 87 against 16, 71 against ES used in the normal rankings being awarded points.
For the time being the community says "No ES at all" or "ES at a separate league with separate points db".
