  1. So we're not taking a step forward because some people and stupid manufacturers will try to "override" the new rule ? Allllllllrighty...

Since people and manufacturers can also "embrace" hardware sharing, shouldn't we retire the hardware sharing rule too ?

And since some people can also run mipmap for example at X clocks and claim that they run the benchmark at Y clocks ( matching the relative performance ), shouldn't we also remove all the rules in general ?

Let's keep it nice, tidy & simple.

    The new rules are...

    #1: Be a human being

    #2: There's no second rule.

    Enjoy...

  2. When W3570&975 were king (before Gulftown) Andre's top scores were with retail chips, thats what he said.

You do realize that there was no difference between the E.S. and the retail Nehalem's back then right ?

Binning retails was more worthwhile than binning E.S. then.

You had better chances to find a great retail chip than an E.S.

This is obviously not the case with Gulftown and Clarkdale.

  3. Quite ironic that the thread starter here is the same guy who has a sig full of thanks to his sponsors on xs. (I don't mean this as an attack on you Bill, but it's just too prevalent to not note)

    That's just wrong, because:

    1) They're not my sponsors.

    2) They're just people who helped me back when I started reviewing hardware

    3) They're not sending me pretested hardware to bench, they're just my contacts that send me random retail samples to review on my site.

p.s.1. My recent scores were obtained with an 980X E.S. CPU ( crappy for most benches, but whatever ), and I'm more than happy to have those removed regardless of the "outcome" regarding the E.S. hardware.

p.s.2. Obviously the ones who have good connections with a few mfc's can also bin retails, but binning retails would be much less harsh than binning E.S.

The best retail out there can't outclock the best E.S.

Actually the best retail out there is a worse clocker than the "mid-class E.S." out there.

Binning E.S. is just making sure that nobody would get past that man, simply because the retails are and from the looks of it will remain worse.

It's way easier to find a "diamond" E.S. than finding a "diamond" retail.

    How many good E.S.'s do we have on HWbot ? 20 ? 30 ?

How many good retails do we have on HWbot ?

How many E.S. were tested to get to those 30 great ones ?

How many retails were tested to get to those... 2 ? 3 ?

  4. Yeah I can imagine the pain...

statements from the E.S. holocaust survivors "It was a nightmare, I lost all my good scores and I'm now ranked 50th", "I spent... a few e-mails on getting that cherrypicked E.S. visiting Intel Tajikistan to bench there, and now they took all my 50.000$ worth scores away" :D

  5. Then you'll never remove them because there are people who bought sandy bridge E.S. already, and then they'll buy charlie's chimp E.S. etc

So, stop pretending that you're thinking of a way to make things work, and just say that you will never remove the E.S.

    It's that simple.

  6. This poll MUST be done in XS and in local forums so to have a REAL sample.....OR else in here it doens't count because a few users comes into these forums.... ;)

    They'll ignore it because it's "not on HWbot" ( laughs ) :D

But, it's a good idea, would you mind starting it on XS George ? ;)

  7. It was their decision to spend their money on E.S.

They took the risk, and knew that they might get disallowed sooner or later.

In that case, shall the retail buyers ask for a compensation for making their investments in retail CPU's worthless ?

If an athlete decides to take drugs to enhance his performance, it's his decision, and if he gets caught or a new regulation adding his drug in the disallowed meds list arises, it's his fault and he doesn't deserve a compensation.

After all buying E.S. hardware is illegal.

And well... they can sell them just like they bought them...

  8. What we can see from the ES poll is that the vast majority wants to have them removed or non-point awarded.

It's clear and shinny like an uncut diamond.

About being unfair when applied mid-season... there's always something people miss at the startup line, and there's also always a "crack" half-way for someone to introduce something that is clearly wrong and outside the rules ( mipmap maybe ? altered PC Mark maybe ? )...

Fairness is a loose term, and it can be misused ( I was the first one to steal money from a bank, there was no law about it, so I'm legal, and no, you can't write a law about it, because we're in the middle of the game )...

Keeping things as fair as possible is the key.

Not removing the ES with the excuse that people can cheat and use them under the table and with another excuse ( not being able to track the ES VGAs ) is like not allowing the police to check up on suspects because they might get paid by the suspects to say that they're clean...
