nickolp1974 Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Just been running my single stage and the compressor has just stopped i have just opened up the electrical box and theres a large capacitor, could that of failed?? How do i test?? Not sure if my mm has a capacitance reading. The fans still spins but nothing else, it just cut out, no pop or anything. Quote
Guest TheMadDutchDude Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Did you happen to turn it off and back on within a short period of time or did it just stop and you've not turned it on again since? I made the mistake of turning it on too soon after I turned it off and the fuse popped which is meant to happen. Maybe your fuse went, so check that first. Quote
nickolp1974 Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 (edited) No mate it was running whilst i was switching a gpu out, like the compressor part stopped and the fan was still going. It was quiet for a change!! I would of thought its pretty old now?? So something was bound to let go If i connect mm on ohm setting to capacitor it drops to 0 and then starts to rise and keeps going?? Edited February 26, 2015 by nickolp1974 Quote
Guest TheMadDutchDude Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I'm no electronics engineer but that doesn't sound right to me. Perhaps it has lost its charging ability. Oh, I know, that rotary is ****ing loud. It performs like a beast though. Hopefully someone else can help you here. Quote
nickolp1974 Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Have seen a new 1hp rotary R22, does that sound about right?? Can i post links here?? Quote
Guest TheMadDutchDude Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I think that one is 1hp too, but I don't remember. There should be a sticker on there somewhere if memory serves, but I could be mistaken. Of course you can post links on here. Quote
nickolp1974 Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 The sticker does not say much Very similar to this one http://airmend-hvac.en.made-in-china.com/product/eSyniZMlLPkL/China-T3-Rotary-Compressor-R22-220-240V-50Hz-1HP-3HP-LG-Compressor-QP407PAA-.html Quote
nickolp1974 Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Brendan, is there a fuse for the compressor?? If so can you remember where?? Had one guy at MLG say to wire up compressor direct to mains to test? Quote
Guest TheMadDutchDude Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Oh my, now you're asking! LOL. It's within the electrics box, but I can't tell you where exactly. I think it's in the white junction box. I had to replace it once myself. Quote
Guest TheMadDutchDude Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I honestly can't remember and I'm taking stabs in the dark here. Try looking under the live terminal closest to the earth. I think it needs to be unscrewed. I can't logically think where else it could be, but you may be able to spot it. Perhaps a bit of resistance probing with your DMM will do the trick. Find out where the link is broken and base your search around that. Quote
nickolp1974 Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Found it!! You were correct! Fuse ok but 1 of the contacts was a bit slack so i bent it in and not sure if that was the problem but its working, testing now and currently at -57c i'll see how long it lasts. Thanks for your help! Quote
Guest TheMadDutchDude Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Glad to be of assistance. Now you know where it is in case you pop the fuse in the future. On another note: Damn, I miss that unit. Quote
Guest TheMadDutchDude Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Well played, Nick. Well played. Quote
nickolp1974 Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Ha ha no seriously thanks, got a new board and chip coming in next couple of days and i would of been truly gutted if it were fubar, so fingers crossed its all good and i can rag this new hardware still building upto LN2 but work needs to pick up a bit before i start throwing the $$$$ at that. Quote
Guest TheMadDutchDude Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Whereabouts are you based, Nick? I assume further north like most overclockers. Oh, new hardware? Do tell me more. Also, add me on Skype. I assume you have it. Quote
nickolp1974 Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Based near Lincoln, have never used skype mate but never say never, got a lot to learn yet and want to keep pushing. just grabbed an X58 platform to thrash, just building up my hardware before making the jump, thought about DICE but lewis reckons i'm not gonna gain much as far as cpu(SS) is concerned. Just need to get volt modding then i'm set to have a bash, just always hard work being a privateer funding everything. Dagmar has been very helpful in that respect regards hardware but i generally refuse as i dont like being responsible for other peoples stuff but i may borrow his dewar and of course knowledge Quote
Guest TheMadDutchDude Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Lewis is right, going from that phase to DICE is not worth it at all. I did it, and it was a waste of £70 on the DICE. It's an expensive game, without any doubt. Even more so when you slaughter a GPU before you even use it. Sounds like a plan. You're welcome to venture down to my place to have a day with LN2 if you wish. It's a long way down though. Quote
nickolp1974 Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 I've already slaughtered a very good 680lightning which is why i have been buying older/cheaper cards to test with. And i appreceiate your kind offer, will have to take you up on that you still in the states?? Quote
Guest TheMadDutchDude Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Oh dear. How did that happen? That's definitely the way to go. I bought a 780 Ti from Ian though so we will see what happens with that. I am, yeah. I'll be back next week but I can't get any LN2 until the beginnining of April, unless Lewis can find another supplier as he wants to come down too. Quote
nickolp1974 Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 I couldn't wait to get suitable sized bolts to connect the SS so i drilled the holes bigger on the card, still not sure what killed it but possibly static. Where are you based?? Do mansfield cryogenics deliver to where you are?? Viz uses 'em and he's way down. http://mansfieldcryogenics.com Quote
ObscureParadox Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 they do deliver there but the problem was that they weren't in the area anywhere near when I was planning to go. They're on a 6 week schedule in brendans place and I was planning on coming right in the middle of said schedule Quote
Guest TheMadDutchDude Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I doubt static killed it, I think you're more likely to have severed a few traces that lay underneath the visible PCB. Truly gutting and a great shame. You'll know better next time buddy. It hurts, doesn't it? Nick, get Skype. Us three need to have a chat so we can organise a meet! Quote
ObscureParadox Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 nope wasn't a track, I already looked over it for that and was extremely unlikely to be that. I do actually maybe have another theory, nick you haven't thrown that card yet have you? Quote
