Crew gavbon Posted March 23, 2015 Crew Share Posted March 23, 2015 It appears that my MSI X99S Gaming 7 motherboard has developed pin rot after a benching session with Obscureparadox on Saturday. Is there a fix for pin rot? Can it be repaired or is the board pretty much brown bread and unusable now? http://i.imgur.com/lv1s6Pd.jpg http://i.imgur.com/bySLAUB.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3TSBhUk.jpg
Guest TheMadDutchDude
That just looks like Vaseline in there, Gav. Take off the heat sink and thermal pads, and chuck it into the dishwasher (thanks Vivi!). After that, dry it for a couple of days in the airing cupboard and it should be fine to boot again. Pin rot takes a while to develop, as far as I am aware.

Crew gavbon Posted March 23, 2015 Author Crew Share Posted March 23, 2015 Reason I thought it might be pin rot, is that some of the contacts at the end are blue....and there is noway any putty got into the socket
Guest TheMadDutchDude
Send it to me, and I'll wash it. That's fair enough though. I reckon it's just Vaseline But I could be wrong.
Crew gavbon Posted March 23, 2015 Author Crew Share Posted March 23, 2015 Won't the jets not damage the pins? If so, I can always find someone with a dishwasher?
Guest TheMadDutchDude
I think the jets won't affect it. The pins are so small and it takes quite a force to bend them out of alignment. The water (in my eyes) should just hit and bounce away from the back of the socket as it'll be laid flat in there. The offer is there, if you want to send it my way. I don't mind chucking it in the dishwasher.

Guest TheMadDutchDude
Oh it was? My bad! Hmm. I still can't see it being pin rot; it's too soon isn't it? Just had a closer look at it, and it really does look like putty in there. The blue tinge just gives it away, and I know you guys had blue putty on it now that you mentioned it, Lewis.
