Maximus III Extreme needs clr cmos to start

Hi guys

 

been taking a break from extreme oc and computers in general, but I recently aquired an old and rare MIIIE. I bought it used (ofc), the guy said it didn't start and hung on the cpu_led. This was true, but a simple physical switch between the two bios chips made it start again. However, if I leave it be for a day or more, it needs clear cmos in order to boot, otherwise stuck on cpu_led as before. When that's done I can use it all I want, until I leave it be again.

 

I'm really at a loss for what to do. Cmos battery is replaced and still good.

1+ year bump! Still got the same problem

Been there done that. I think this mobo is damaged in some way, but can't put my finger on what.

Try flash bios, maybe bios corrupted?

Done that without improvement, but I will try a DOS format to completely overwrite eveything

If you remove 24pin without clear cmos does it boot?

If yes then a cap probably needs replacement cause it does not unload voltage completely thus triggering boot failure.

I have had the same problem in many old motherboards.

It has stopped booting altogether lol.
