marco.is.not.80 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Friends, Has anyone else seen this: https://www.quantacool.com/polarbox-cpu-cooler Please comment - but no pumps? No water? No problem? Polarbox? I watched the video and am having a hard time believing this actually works but I probably didn't pay enough attention in science class. Loved to hear from more knowledgeable members. Quote
jab383 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Looks like a heat pipe just like on most air coolers. This one seems to have large enough radiator or such in the box that the total power capacity is more than an air cooler that fits on the CPU. From their claims, Polarbox can carry more power than any water cooler. The downside is the long fluid and gas lines. The clue is "circulates the refrigerant, using evaporation and gravity" which is the description of a near-room-temperature phase change cooler, in other words a head pipe. No heat pipe without active cooling can put the CPU to a temperature below the vaporization temperature of the refrigerant, which has to be above room temperature for the gas to condense and recirculate. It might carry a lot of power, but the CPU won't be cold. 1 Quote
Crew Leeghoofd Posted February 15, 2020 Crew Posted February 15, 2020 engineering idea translated by a marketing guy that has no clue, thus stating bold claims that it can't live up to... They can always send a review sample to prove me wrong 1 Quote
MetalRacer Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 These results aren't impressive. 1 Quote
Crew Leeghoofd Posted February 15, 2020 Crew Posted February 15, 2020 that's even worse than a high end air cooler....... next.... 1 Quote
