Posted November 28, 201212 yr Just found this forwarded to my email. Figured I could share. Card: GIGABYTE GV-R797TO-3GD Guide 1) For LN2 GPU, you need to use blade to pop up the shim like picture says. 2) Remove the resistor for unlock the voltage limitation including vGPU and vGDDR 3) Please the atiflash to upgrade a new OC bios which name "R797TO3D_OC" Bios download: http://downloads.HWBOT.org/downloads/VGABIOS/R797TO3D_OC Improved OC in BIOS a. Force PCIe to Gen2 mode to make compatible with BCLK overclocking and -120C temp issue b. Disable UVP, UTP, OVP, OTP and OV c. Disable Sleep mode when CFX d. Unlock frequency limitation to 2000/2200 in C.C.C e. VGPU tested 1.80V, VGDDR test 2.0V 4a) Use the OV tool to adjust VRM and voltages., double click R797TO.exe to open the tool. (tool[/url] not public) 4b) Download CHL8228 datasheet, find VSEN pin and use VR to overclock. Good luck! Edited May 8, 201312 yr by Massman
November 28, 201212 yr Author The tool is to advanced to be public. It can change VRM frequency (too high = fire) and 1.9V Vgpu and 2.0V Vmem. If you remove the resistor and then find pin for Vsen, you can just use a VR to control the voltage to any level. BIOS takes care of OCP and all that stuff.
November 28, 201212 yr That's great to hear,i was wondering why we need the mod but thanks for clearing it out... This card should be a very interesting choice...
November 28, 201212 yr Does afterburner allow to overvolt the card to 1,8V without the resistor? And only flash the BIOS does disable all protections? Edited November 28, 201212 yr by Moose83
November 28, 201212 yr Author Yes. You just need to flash the BIOS + remove the resistor to unlock full voltage range Improved OC in BIOS a. VGPU tested 1.80V, VGDDR test 2.0V UVP = undervoltage protection UTP = undertemperature protection OVP = overvoltage protection etc ...
November 29, 201212 yr Well i flashed the bios, but now i cant boot the card, get bluescreen with ati error
November 29, 201212 yr Shortly one time i was able to boot:) GPU-Z shows pcie 2.0, before 1.1, so seems like some parts work. But Win hasnt load the driver and gives an error. Clocks in bios are 1100/1500, maybee this is the problem.
November 29, 201212 yr Vgpu i removed the resistor, but only tested with afterburner and it didnt work there, so hardmod is needed. Maybee the bios is for the superclocked? Tested some other Bioses from Techpowerup, all Bioses work, but superclock Bioses didnt work. I have the 1GHz Ocerclocked Version of this card. Can you ask Gigabyte for the other Bioses please
November 29, 201212 yr Author No, the BIOS is for sure for the GV-R797TO-3GD card . I mean - what is the Vgpu now at? What driver/os are you trying?
November 29, 201212 yr http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4102#ov Thats my card, same as your linked Card, only clocks are a bit differened;) The Bios increase the Volt a bit, not that much, but still in Afterburner 1,3V maximum. I use Win 7 with the newest driver 12.11. But my card cant boot with that bios, get ATI error on Bluescreen, also the bios is only 64kB, original is 128kB.
November 30, 201212 yr Author Bios size is not the problem. It's probably going to be Vgpu or so. Let's try to figure out what the problem is. If you change to the backup BIOS (bios switch), can you then install the driver without any problem?
November 30, 201212 yr Yes BIOS 2 works without Problems:) I tryed to delete all ATI drivers flash then the card and install drivers. Install no problem but After reboot same driver issue again.
November 30, 201212 yr Author Hm. Did you try flashing the BIOS again? Maybe something didn't go entirely correct during the flash. Try this Atiflash version: http://downloads.hwbot.org/downloads/tools/atiflash.exe
November 30, 201212 yr Tryed many times;) I use atiflash -f -p 0 biosname.rom I will try with your atiflash again;) Same again, it wont work:( Edited November 30, 201212 yr by Moose83
November 30, 201212 yr Tryed many times;) I use atiflash -f -p 0 biosname.rom I will try with your atiflash again;) Same again, it wont work:( Because your card does not use the same VRM. Mine uses different chip from CHiL CHL8228G. BIOS structure also differs from the GV-R797TO-3GD, and the BIOS submitted is not intended to use on your card. HGyu
December 1, 201212 yr Because your card does not use the same VRM. Mine uses different chip from CHiL CHL8228G. BIOS structure also differs from the GV-R797TO-3GD, and the BIOS submitted is not intended to use on your card. HGyu what vrm does the non overclocked variant have?
May 7, 201312 yr Bumping this thread, since the pictures in the first post disappeared, and I was finishing the procedure this evening...Flashed the bios correctly (but the card is not stable), I need the second picture in order to remove the resistor and unlock voltages...moreover, Massman, is the tool still under NDA or is it public?
