  1. Forget about it for now. I thought about working on this case but don't have time for this one. You need to mod EFI (the new word to BIOS simply speaking). In this EFI you need not the CMOS Setup menus (BIOS options as many call them) but the Management Engine region (ME).

There you need the PLL bits tto be modified for XTU to work. After that you'll need to flash your firmware (it can be locked making this a bit more tricky). Then you'll be able to change frequency via XTU. But the procedure for iGPU overclocking isn't developed yet AFAIK.

  2. You don't need the latest version unless you're making a validation.

I use any version that correctly identifies the hardware. Should add that sometimes newer versions show more info about old hardware. Because sometimes Franck Dellattre does read my letters :D

  3. ludek111, WinNT should be your OS of choice, though Win2K should run too. Like it's said, XP requires CMPXCHG8B support but it has nothing to do with SMP (CMP stands for compare, not multiprocessing). It was implemented in Pentium family only.

I haven't benched 486 yet, but I've read good enough. Feel free to ask.

  4. GENiEBEN, Karl used an SX - no FPU. ;) that's a huge difference.

frag_, don't forget that socket 3 bus width is twice less than socket 5/7. Big difference for Pi32. And he should build a specific config to achieve best results.

ludek111, Cyrix 486 CPUs are weaker than Intel/AMD. Except the 5x86 series which are a whole different story (they could be called 6x86 beta).

I see an interesting competition - make Pi32M in less than 4/3/2/1 weeks. And categories for SX/DX/DX2/DX4 and a separate one for Intel ODP/AMD X5/Cyrix 5x86. Due to conditions, there shouldn't be a month limitation, more like an ongoing. And CPU photo required to verify the category was chosen right.
