  1. This actually makes me smile. But I guess I'm one of the bad guys since I'm now "elite"...

I'm defending a principle to ensure stability and reliability over time at hwbot. And since you brought it up, what's your angle? Oh, wait. You now have several 50 pointers with gtx 295...hmm, what could it be? :)

Oh, and next time I bench cinebench I'll do it with vga on ln2, just for you. Otherwise it's not a proper effort (even when there is no point)... :celebration:

Ha ha :D nah most of you are good guys and thoroughly deserve your place.

Why would you bench cinebench with a vga on ln2???? Maybe give you something to do while the Kaby pot is full and boiling away ;)

My angle is this, the 295 and mars are similar but not the same, the 295 is fairly accessible to all, the mars is not. The bigger potential participation level in this instance should rule if the outcome of the poll was 50/50. Hwbot needs to increase participation in benchmarks, not drive them away. If everyone belives they have a shot at that #1 spot that can drive competition, if they also believe they dont stand a chance then they may not even bother to try. Its actually nice for us lesser/poor folk to get some short lived #1's, it gives me and maybe some others motivation to carry on. (Edit:this does not mean the people with more resources should not participate!, if hardware is in the correct catagory then its as it should be, a full out free for all)

I'm just in the process of getting a bracket sorted for a pot which should work on the 295, the mars will most likely be back in the same ranking so i need to try and beat it, only trouble is i dont have a golden bucket full of cpu's :D

  2. You really have no clue. The reason der8auers scores with the Mars are better than all others is that he modded, made special ln2-pots and benched the bunnyextraction out of the card paired with one of the best CPUs in the world. All others just use stock cooler or maybe water...

The main thing, and what reasonable people here agree on, is not the technicalities. It SHOULD have been a category of its own. But it was not done so. Touch luck, but the consequences of altering this 10 years later is way bigger than just letting it stay where it has always been. You can of course still beat a mars with a gtx 295. But you have to work for it, it is not the easy 50-pointers that people get with 4870X2 etc cards. This is the real reason this was brought up. People want the easy points...

If you want to look at real world differences, check old reviews. (https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GeForce_GTX_285_MARS/25.html) It shows that a 295 actually beats the mars in 3D05 and is very close in 06. Even back then it was CPU-bound. Diff in 03 is about 10%, but that is attributed to higher clockspeeds, not so much the extra ROPs or bus width. Actually the clock speeds are more than 10% higher than the 295...

So all in all, people want to rewrite 10 year old history based on a technicality that makes no difference in the real world!

    Another thing to consider when making a decision;

Who looses on keeping the mars in the 295-category?

    Who looses on separating it?

The answer to the first question is the ones who wants der8auers scores removed so they can get the 50 points for themselves without an effort.

The second answer is everyone who has spent money and worked hard on benching their mars cards. Der8auer is not the only one.

So, hwbot, make a decision and get this over with.

I'm not quite sure how to take this post Tobias, maybe after some Der8auer sponsorship???

Your making it sound like people are attacking Roman, i for one am not, the guy has insane skills and i'm pretty sure the others arn't being personal too.

Heres a #1 WR Rauf`s Unigine Heaven - Xtreme score: 11380.58 DX11 Marks with a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti vga's on air, even less "effort" than getting a waterblock on a gtx 295!!

Great score though, its just all a bit tongue in cheek...

  3. What ambient did you test with on water? The idle temps seem very low.

About 9c iirc, as I've said incredibly low leakage

Want this sold so dropped price again, bargain now at £430inc shipping, great cpu and better than the last one that sold at €500

  4. I knew i should of made that question more clear! Didn't think it would be long before someone pulled it up :D what i meant was, the basic specs of the card should be pretty much equivelant, ROPS, shaders, bus width etc. End of the day the Asus site says its a dual 285 and the 295gtx is not that. TBH not fussed where it goes, pretty sure it will stay like it has done for the last 10 years or so.

  5. @ Roman, I totally get all your points and I fully understand the commitment involved to potentionally reach the elite, you have and continue to do a great job with regards to the overclocking community. It does not alter the fact that the card in question is in the wrong catagory.

Is it possible for the VGA to remain in the same class but separate the points, so you can have a #1 295 and a #1 mars, both being 50 pointers?????

  6. Lol if you ever benched a dual GPU card, especially on LN2, you would know that it's not the same as 2 seperate cards. Especially when it comes to cooling.... Surely 1 PCIe Slot vs. 2 also makes a difference.

I'm amazed in which direction hwbot is heading here. I won't bother to bench for the rankings anymore. If we can't even have stability over these years - where is the point

I don't see the problem, other than lack of points if it were to have its own class but the same applies to cards such as the GTX 590.

And your comment about not benching in rankings anymore, why, because of this??? How do you think others feel when some of the elite have access to the top 1% cpu's and you/they compete technically in the same league. No wonder the extreme overclock scene is in a bad place, you either need to be in a fortunate position within the industry or need to have a large disposable income to compete.

  7. Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 192SP @ HWBOT

    Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 216SP @ HWBOT

This was done for a reason, the same reason that requires the Dual 285 card to have it's own category. Calling it "GTX 285 SLI" is also not correct, as there is no merging done to GTX 295 and GTX 275 SLI, which is the same situation.

I've had 10 year old results taken down recently. It's only fair to fix mistakes when they appear to be mistakes, like calling a dual 285 card a 295.

    Agreed

  8. @suzuki, so from what your saying in that 260sli=285sli, so why not just have 200series league??? Not really fair is it?? Tbh I couldn't care less what league the 295gtx is in, a bump to #1 is nice but I only bench for a bit of fun now because the moment it becomes serious is the moment you notice all the flaws. There are many loopholes at hwbot and some exploit them to gain an advantage, sometimes it's clearly visible and at other times not so.

To the mods: if you make a decision,

Stick to it, not everyone will be happy but such is life.
