  1. Thought I knew my HW and yet not even sure what you guys are talking about. TBH I cant even see how an expander works since it is till the same lanes providing IO. Apparently it does. That in itself is cool as hell, and why aren't companies mass marketing it? Simple and cheap to produce, but can command a high price point since it is benchers only device...
  2. Exactly. Have a website list it just OOS (out of stock) and bingobango you got yourself a retail product. Whatever though. Will see what rev4 brings. Cheating is TOUGH to prevent, and I do not relish these guys having to look for it. Fact is cheating is pretty minor, do YOU cheat? No, neither do I, so who is?. Get into a comp and use a pre-tweaked OS and cant produce results.. get banned. Real fame comes from comps not online submissions. EDIT: I am drunk. Normally I wouldn't care at all. *sigh
  3. Serial numbers also means HW reselling will cause problems. If I buy a card on a forum or on Ebay, and the serial number was already used... that means I can no longer submit with it? Buying used HW is fine for HWbot, so invoice only or if its a contest winning a screeny of your name on the winners list would be adequate I think. For reviewers... a link to the review could be used. But it still would not stop HW Sharing. JM2C
  4. Nice post dahaka. I think the rules need to be spelled out better. As far as I can tell the goal is to publish results from companies and all the rest of you are cheaters.
  5. I loved it last night. Now I am spent. *sigh This thread is full of ideas. I understand MM's complaint that the bot is not free. Understand it more so now that we know he is being PAID. Wow... paid staff!!! It is unheard of in tech forums. We do this cuz we love it and why names and faces change so much... SORRY FOR THE LONG ASS POST So... I read the PPT... and still confused. From what it looks like, I will lose all contributions to the team if my score is less than what another team member is capable of doing. If he gets first and I get second... then someone that got third gets second by default? That does not seem right... That is not fair to anyone second or third place. Teams are not about sharing HW... it is about community and sharing KNOWLEDGE. That is why teams are the gift that keeps on giving. I am on my second team, only because my first sucked so bad not because of points (I would be ecstatic if my team was in the top 100 let alone the top10) but because there was no community involved (apparently that changed you can ask bobnova he is on my former team). HWsharing is definitely tough to prove, and a thorn in the side of fair and balanced participation. Look at wprime results for sempron 140 single core. 6 of top 8 are on the same team, using same CPU, same mobo.. dunno... also their screenshots only show up as thumbnails in opera or IE so no idea if they are running same BIOS and ram as well. And not one of them posted a 2X score? The odds of getting a sempron 140 that DOES NOT unlock are what 1:3? 4 of them should have 2x scores submitted as well. Is it proof they are cheating? No. The board at one time was cheap... the chip is still very cheap... could they have all bought it? Absolutely. Also I did not delve into because I just do not care if they did cheat. It is a HWbot rule, and one I follow. It is called character and something I think most of us have. HW sharing is going to need more proof than that. It looks obvious... but is it? Prices are low they could have all bought it. (why not easy points for low investment) Or sold it to one another at a discounted rate (pretty sure the assertions of $1 sales I have seen in htis thread are WAY OFF the mark. I have posted on at least a half dozen 100K+ member forums and their for sale sections always post a price and another price for "team members" no matter if it is a benching team, or a rosetta team or as I recently instituted a reviewer team. (rewarding those that give back to the community with knowledge). I understand you thinking that needs to change... but it doesn't. The complaint is not on old cheap HW the complaints are about the latest and greatest HW. So why punish us old HW users? As for manufacturers having teams and supporting HWbot. Not so sure that was not going on already, but this could be a cost saving venture for them as the amount of free giveaways or review samples they will need to send out will totally dry up. Just an opinion. In summation. Do what you like. People will either deal with it (and bitch, but they bitch anyway)... or more probably since the rev 4 proposal seems to punish those that are on teams with OC'ers better than them, you will have 4 or 5 competitors within 6 months of rev4 being implemented. In another 6 months... there will be two, and your current "market share" will be split between them... Trust in your members. Cheating may be an issue, it is pretty obvious who does it. Those that scream about cheating from others first and foremost, and those that have money to gain by the change. HWbot is not about money... except for the mods (apparently) and owner and corporations for the rest of us its a simple nondescript website that should cost tens of dollars to maintain a month and is a comparison for how we rate against others.
  6. Selling parts at a discount to fellow team members is also a perk that comes from being on a team. Would love to be on the team that sells HW for $1. But every forum I have been on... XS/OCA/OCF/OCN,TR,[H] there are posts that say XXXX off for team members (whether they be Hwbot team members, Folding/Crunching team members or whatever...) It is usually on the order of $10 or %10 sometimes higher, but rarely. Check any classifieds on any forum, new stuff around the corner? Old stuff gets listed up for sale. It is how one feeds the adiction that is OCing/benching. It also rings a death knell for larger teams like Xtremesystems. As well as smaller Overclockers like myself. There is a limited number of different CPUs/GPUs out there... and certain ones are best for certain tests. If anyone on my team has purchased HW and submitted it and I do not know I can beat them... (and how will I know if I have not run that HW before) there is no point in buying it for benching as I will not receive any points for it). Be the best or don't play at all!!! I can see nascar going real far only giving points to the guy that finishes first. What is the change good for? More teams!!! Now large teams can split up into sister sites... and retain there boints for HW purchased, and manufacturers get to sit at the top of the bot on ES stuff. rev4 = good for manufacturers, Bad for guys that wait till something is last gen and cheaper. LMAO that is too funny!
  7. I cant understand what the big deal is, is cheating that rampant? I expect it is on the very high end of things, but really, is the average overclocker out there going oh wow I can downclock after a bench too look COOLER than I really am? As for cooling air on air cooling contests, or throwing a rad in an ice bath for water cooling contests. How is that cheating? Isn't that ingenuity? Isn't the whole idea of overclocking to improve open the basic abilities of the components we purchased? IF I cant afford a thermochill rad and use a heater core instead and make up the difference (or even blow past the performance of the thermochill) by keeping a cooler full of ice laying around.. or tossing my rad out the window during winter... how is that different then overclocking a cpu/gpu? For that matter.. Maybe all benchmarks should now be run only at stock clocks, because some motherboards (IE dell/HP etc) may not support overclocking features, and if it is not fair for everyone it is fair for no one. If you don't allow someone to run an air conditioner say to cool their room to lower ambients in the summer, then what is next? Making everyone go out side to bench on stock settings, and do it on livestream to ensure they are not tweaking the OS? I understand cheating is a concern when prizes or OC travel is on the line... but if you are going to sweat it on stuff that does not really matter (like an enthusiast league), then why even participate in this hobby? Go do RC. Its just as fun (lots of prep and tweak work) gets you out in the sun and if you race them for real (bench) the top 3 cars are torn down to look for cheats.
  8. Actually with the current misinformation assigned to turbo (read I7 and now thuban) it would be harder. Easy to run a single threaded bench and score higher on CPUZ...also vica versa get scores that don't equal the benchmark like i7 has been doing for a long time thanks to turbo... Dunno what you guys are going to do after hydra...
  9. Your tweaking skills are MAD.. Same CPU speed better RAM timings I could not come within 35 seconds of your time. And I consider myself good at 32m lol
  10. 12/5 is 7600 core pixel/vertex pipes.. While most of hte 7300s are 8/4, some were able to be unlocked It is possible that either a bios flash or just a GPUz glitch was reading the "locked pipes"
