Phill Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Or both! Non ES preferable but what do these go for?? Please drop me a line if you have a good one
xxbassplayerxx Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 (edited) In the US, the 980Xs sell on ebay for anywhere from $175-225. 990Xs can be as high as $300. When I buy 980s, I usually try to get them closer to $150 or so. Edited March 25, 2016 by xxbassplayerxx
Phill Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 If only they would sell that cheap over in the UK Can't believe the prices!! Many thanks for your reply
xxbassplayerxx Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Yeah, I figured it would go pretty much straight over to GBP even though it's nowhere near a direct conversion. 175-225 GBP sound about right?
Phill Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 I guess the 980X and 990X are somewhat flaky aren't they? A bit troublesome maybe?
Apfelkuchen Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 There was a huge pricedump for Gulftown in 2013-14 because all these $50 Xeon X5650 flooding the market could do the same speeds at ambient. But as prices for those went above $100, Gulftown climbed back towards 200...
Phill Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 I have two X5650's here in my SR2 but I was wondering about putting some hex cores in my 759 and 762 boards, the 920's are pretty good but I wouldn't say no to some hex cores in them too I didn't want to mod them as I have read that I could mod the boards to take the X5650's but I'd rather not.. I suppose a cheap upgrade if I did use them from the SR2 but then I'd have to replace the ones in the SR2 and that might get costy lol
xxbassplayerxx Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Are you sure that the EVGA boards have to be modded for Xeons? None of my Giga or Asus boards needed to be.
Phill Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 I'm not sure, only from what I have read, something about a pin or something, I can't honestly remember But I have my new X99 rig sat next to me, so I'm wondering if it's even worth buying another 1366 CPU or two...
Apfelkuchen Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Are you sure that the EVGA boards have to be modded for Xeons? None of my Giga or Asus boards needed to be. I'm unsure about E759, E762 and E770, but E760 and the black X58-SLI definitely need the mod. We had quite the drama in PCGHX when someone recommended a Xeon to someone with Evga SLI and it didn't work... the E760 I tested myself. Afaik some of the later PCB-revision run Westmere EP without mods as well. Asus and Gigabyte are the safest bet, never heard of problems with those.
Phill Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 There's a 980X on Ebay at the moment, but I'm unsure if its worth going for or not? Also, does the batch help with how well it will clock or not? I don't want to buy something that's pants cos it's just a waste of time to me...
T.Rex Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I have 2 980x here in denmark, but dont know about oc,I have only used one on water and it did 4.6 ghz 1.27v wprime 1024m the one time I try,its all I know :-)
Phill Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 Well that's impressive enough! Have you tried any Cinebench or anything like that? What board was it with?

Phill Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 If you wouldn't mind that would be great What sort of cooling do you use for testing? AIO or custom water?
