Its something to do with DDR2 boards Gig 790X-UD4P is another board thats capable of high bus DDR3 boards wont go as high.

A look at locked CPUs like Sempron 145 all the top results are on DDR2 boards it could have something to do with the dual memory controller in AM3 CPUs internal timings  for DDR2 might be looser than DDR3.

You should be able to run Ram at 1:1 I am only running an average Ballistix D9 stick.

Experiment with HTlink and motherboard NB voltage too to see what it likes.
