K might change it to positive temps than iso stock cooler... also gonna lower the processor clocks to 4500ish speeds so the CPU has lesser impact on the outcome

CPU limited to positive temps in Div I-V as well?
I'd assume Div VI-VII would be positive temps regardless as they were in Round 1

  2. With us needing to use HWiNFO64 or HWMonitor and the like already I think a +15/20c minimum for GPU temp is best.
I understand the rationale behind Stock coolers only but with there being (sometimes large) variations in the capabilities of GPU air coolers it could be just as unbalanced as allowing H2O mixed in anyway.

Capping CPU freq is fine by me and also ties in with still needing monitoring software.

Can't speak for Div VII but for Div VI it'd make sense to have the top end GPU used to be the same time period as the top end platform (990FX = HD 7970)

Looking forward to Round 2 ?

Look, some ES are good, and some are bad.
sometimes retail are better, sometimes not

You might get a mad retail 9900K like Bullshooter did, and wipe the floor with it, or maybe you work with a board manufacturer and have them bin through 100, 200 who knows how many chips intel/amd sends them and they send you one from their top 5 or whatever.

Or maybe you work with a board manufacturer that makes something top end but in limited number, Z97 SOC Force LN2 board is the good example here, far better than any other board of its generation, 99% of these boards should be considered ES, although technically they're considered retail for Hwbot because they were available for retail purchase on Newegg for a hot minute.

Maybe you're talking about ES Kingston AFR DDR4, given out to a few top guys, at the time, with ln2 it was far better than DDR4 MFR and Samsung E die (Until B-die was released)

I think its important that ES for current generation stuff is kept to a separate league, if you're getting it - you're probably getting it for free, and that's not fair when you're talking about binned pieces, of sometimes very expensive hardware.

but once that generation is up, I think it should be fair game. Technically you're not supposed to sell ES but its been sold since forever, and sometimes even given away - I've given up ES boards with permission to local guys for comp prizes and its a great way for guys to push their hardware to limits that retail sometimes cant compete with.

I think the current policy of ES hardware at HWbot is just fine and support it staying the way it is.

I'm in 100% agreement with this, How HWBOT currently has it laid out is on point imo

so if I change AMD stage to non AM4/TR. Does that make everybody happy?

I took this as a given since you've got it listed in the OP as AM3+ or Older, Also assumed that meant FM2+ wouldn't be included either since Kaveri (first processors to use FM2+
) are newer than AM3+ as well.

with limited low freq AM3+ no need ln2, btw 845 is always better in the Pi32M scenario; also Godavari seems better, don't know about Kaveri

Godaveri and Kaveri are the same arch (Steamroller), both are faster than Piledriver clock for clock.

Thing is the number of comps held is up to the staff, they can if they want increase the number of comps held if they want.

I know things have changed in the way of less comps in recent times but that in itself as all other things are could well be changed in the other direction too.

You do make a good point about how comp points were dropping off but that could be subject to change too if the staff decides to do so.

As for catching up it's no different than it was for us when we started off, we too were behind the rest when we started but with time we managed to catch up. Also look at the number of new guys that stuck with it and climbed the rankings in short order, a big part of it is up to the bencher. There are also guys who have half the time if that much in it I have that's ranked above me, that in itself proves it's not solely a matter of time being involved, it's at least in part the commitment and effort given by the bencher.

I don't see the fairness in discounting what the older guys have done, all of us still had to put in the same effort and expense to do it and that shoudn't change for anyone if it's to be done equally across the board, what one earns is theirs.

The new guys can participate in comps in the same way we have, it's all up to them to either do so or not. No amount of accomidation can change that if they aren't willing to work for what they get, same as we've had to do all along.

Speaking of the number of comps held, the staff could look back and see how those were done and possibly use it for an idea or template for planning future comps if they want, it's certainly possible to do.

That is true, there could be more or less comps, that is entirely up to the staff.

I haven't been on here as long as yourself or a number of others in this thread but I don't think anyone is trying to take anything away from you, the comp points never really counted before and if they did I don't think it was accumulated throughout your entire time on HWBOT (please someone correct me if I'm wrong).

The way I see it is these are your BEST performances in competitions, if we wanted everything we've ever done to count then we'd have unlimited hardware and global points as well.
Personally don't think they should be made to be unlimited top 10 or 20 max, and I also think the seasonal comps should be lowered to 5 max as well.

I don't think that is making it too easy for newcomers at all, they'll still have to work hard to move up the spots, opening up the amount of hardware and globals that count towards your total will make it harder for them as well.

As before it doesn't seem to me that anyone is trying to take away or discount how long people have been active, Just trying to bring a solution forward that works best for everyone :)

Regardless of the outcome of this poll I agree the way points are allocated to competitions needs to be seriously looked at.

I'm with George on this, While I agree comp points should count towards your career pool they do need to be looked at, one suggestion was to base them along the lines of how HWpoints are done, more participation/users = more points which I think would be pretty good, I've no idea how hard or easy that would be to implement.

As for the amount, Comps are different to anything else on here as they are only open for a limited time so I think capping the amount of comps that count is good, I personally voted for the ten best comps, counting all of them would be unfair for the people that weren't around then, We don't want makes things unattainable to newcomers or even those that have been around for a few years.

Now if HWBOT had access to a DeLorean....

  7. I like this proposal overall, it's well thought out and covers most of the concerns people have had.

The main thing that I think I'd like to add to this is adding Chillers and possibly Single Stage units added to Enthusiast as I think this will take most of the doubt out of the equation when trying to work out if this score is using chilled water or they just have low a ambient temp, Something of a "if you can't beat them, join them" solution.

I don't expect that to be a popular idea but I do believe it's the right way to go.

The idea of having Country Cup moved to being earlier in the year I am fully on board with and I expect alot of others will be as well.
The redesign of moving cups to the main area of the profile page I like as well, makes it look cleaner.

I do like the HWBOT achievements but some of them aren't really achievable anymore ( Attend World Tour LN2 Certification), so they could do with a trim or rethink in some areas.
There are also some that could be added or updated such as points gathered using more modern sockets (AM4/TR4) or one for using AMD cards (We have one for 25 ATi cards but not AMD ones).

But that's all my thoughts on this, Thanks to Cautilus for laying this all out :)
