I couldn't ever get fast ram working with 4 stick in my Rex... I'm trying to buy some just to get some decent ram in it..
-
I've an Asus Rampage Extreme board (775) and I'm just trying to get some ram for it, preferably 8Gb worth so I'm guessing 4 x 2Gb would be ok but wondering what to get? Any help would be appreciative

How would these fair in a Asus Rampage Extreme 775? Just looking for a kits for one of my spare setups so not really looking to spend masses of cash on it....
-
I've decided not to bother with one, I think I have enough hardware here now  With people telling me they are a pain in the bottom to get working and so on and with the prices up at the £1000 mark, I think I'll be investing in newer tech not older tech More builds to get sorted anyways
-
I'll give them a go with the 7990 then Bit faster
-
Would I be able to use my 3 580's or would I be better off with my 7990??
-
Well I have a couple AX1200 units, would one be ok for the board and a small overclock?
-
I think I might grab the 1866 ram mate.. think it'll be fine with that :-) found the cpus for a good price I think.. they RRP was 700+!! Anything I missed??

Found some of the slowest 6 cores cpu's. They are pretty cheap compared to the model up and the top models, but wow are they massively cheap compared to buying new... If I can get the board and if it's in mint condition with it box etc, then I will buy it.. I might try to sell the quad cores to re-coup some money but failing that, I'd keep them spare.. Also found some 2000Mhz ram as well, so just waiting to see what will happen Ram - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Corsair-12GB-3X4GB-DDR3-2000Mhz-DOMINATOR-GT-FAN-Memory-Kit-CL9-1-65V-/360970939794?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_MemoryRAM_JN&hash=item540b8b6d92 x 2 CPU X 5650 - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271431971344?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 CPU X 5680 - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271556465023?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 - Too rich for my blood!! Just need two water blocks now and I think we are away Just need to check the fittings on the motherboard as well for power supplies... Not sure what it needs!! Excited isn't the word

Many thanks for that I've found some... Now I just need to hear back about the board....

what are the differences between the L, E and X series? EDIT with a bit of help from Google.... http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/281376-28-what-difference-xeon-series-processors L = Thermal design power (expected power draw with a 100% CPU load running normal software) of 60 watts or less. These are the "low voltage" chips. E = TDP of 80 watts. Intel refers to the Xeon 5500/5600s with this letter prefix as the "basic" line and as a result, the idle power draw on these chips is frequently worse than any of the other series of chips, despite the other chips possibly having a higher full-load power draw. X = TDP of 95 watts. These are the "premium" mainstream chips as their TDP is not so excessive that they are difficult to cool in a rack server, yet their idle power consumption is far lower than the E-series chips. W = TDP of 130 watts and higher. These are the fastest, hottest Xeons made and they are designed to be used in workstations and pedestal servers with better cooling than an average 1U or 2U rack server.

A museum of hardware it is but I wouldn't have it any other way!! Thanks for the clear up mate, I couldn't remember what the heck it was called lol Been a while since I looked into this... Now to see if I can find some hex cores....
-
No the 920 won't work on the SR2 as you need special cpus that talk together so I think it's definitely Xeon only. I've a few older bits of hardware here. The SR2 would simply complete it..
-
I know that's no problem:-) I thought that board came with two Xeon cpus?
-
I did sir. I have one here but sadly it's not booting properly and I recently missed one that went at the beginning of the month.. I sure hope they come through!
-
Well to be honest, I just wanted to get it for having it to be honest... I already own a EVGA 759 and 762 motherboard and I have always wanted to have a SR2 so I thought if one came up then I'd be very willing to part with the cash! I know it's 'old hat' now because of the newer CPU's that are due for release and everything (8 cores etc for the desktop) but there's just something about these EVGA motherboards especially from 1366 era that I just love and with the joys I've had from the two 920 D0 chips I've got both are fantastic overclockers, I just really wanted to keep that going with the SR2 I'd try it with gaming and pretty much anything As TheMadDutchDude knows me, he knows that if I do something I have to do it properly or else I just won't do it at all.. So this is why I'd just get what I would like rather than skimp on things in the first place Besides, the ram kits might be rather good for my other EVGA boards or even my two Asus Rampage Extreme boards I hope to have soon

I was thinking of going for water cooling on the cpus but I would leave the motherboard as it's a real pain lol I'll try and grab some of those then.... do they have to be the 2000Mhz kit?
-
With your ram what sizr sticks have you gone for? Do you run yiur cpus overclocked on it? Watwr cooling etc? What cpu would you recommend from the list you've tested and would you overclock them? I think I was looking at the Corsair Dominator for the ram as it was black and red to go with the motherboard but I think that was the only reason... I was looking at two triple channel kits or a total of 6 sticks with 4Gb a stick.. I wondered whether I'd be better off to go with 2Gb sticks tho...
-
Thank you for the links :-) Which would you choose as the top of the line hardware will always carry a premium which I do don't think I will want to pay.. has anyone got any ideas on what memory to go for and how much to get?
-
Question is... how much are they... just need to find out ram and cpu water blocks now...
-
Thank you.. just got home so after I've taken the wives car to the garage I'll be trying to get an email off to him asap!! I only really wonder if it's boxed and complete :-) Wonder also if the hex core cpus are wirtg trying to get.. many thanks for the help :-) it's very much appreciated!
-
Thank yiu for the link.. I wonder if I could join to get to talk to the person selling it..
-
Thanks for the heads up here TheMadDutchDude!! Is this beauty of a board still available?
