September 23, 201014 yr It seems ok to me... the part I still don't understand are the percentages calculations: On the MSI website I find for the gts450, the following versions with those frequencies: http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=prodpage1&maincat_no=130#/getContent.php?cat_no=873&show_type=product 783/1000 850/1000 783/900 850/900 As for the gtx460s versions, here we go: http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=prodpage1&maincat_no=130#/getContent.php?cat_no=738&show_type=product Hawk: 780/900 Cyclone OC 1gb: 725/900 Cyclone 1gb: 675/900 Cyclone 768D5/OC 768mb: 725/900 Cyclone 768D5 768mb: 675/900 768D5: 675/900 So, the reference clocks are 675/900 for the 460s and 783/908 for the 450: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_400_Series#GTX_400_Series Is it allright or is there something that I really missed?
September 23, 201014 yr I think overclock should be calculated from whatever the stock clocks of the card you are using are. That is the true overclock you achieved. Whatever overclocking done by the factory should not count as that card is sold and garanteed to run at this higher speed out of the box. BTW is there any way to raise the memory clock limit? I have afterburner maxed out on memory with no issues. I would like to try and push it up a bit. Edited September 23, 201014 yr by kirbster
September 23, 201014 yr Factory overclocked cards, are nothing more nothing less than a normal videocard with stock frequencies. The only differences are in cards like the lightnings, the hawks etc... cards with different pcbs and components. Pieter said "stock frequencies", so I think they should be those I reported in my last post... If it's not correct, I'm truly missing the point... ?_?

September 23, 201014 yr We use Nvidia's references clocks. It doesn't matter whether the card is factory overclocked.
September 23, 201014 yr We use Nvidia's references clocks. It doesn't matter whether the card is factory overclocked. Why is rickss69 score (http://hwbot.org/community/submission/1056800_rickss69_gpu_z_gpu_frequency_geforce_gtx_460_256bit_995_mhz) then calculated from a reference clock of 700/900 and not 760/950 like the other two scores?
September 23, 201014 yr If the are all 460's the should be calculated from 675/900 It's just that we have only a very small chance whit a 450 because the have to calculate from 783/908. That means if a 460 reaches 1100Mhz a 450 has to do over 1276Mhz to win
September 23, 201014 yr I'm sorry but I do not understand how to submit this for the gpu-z portion of the contest. What is the score? Submitted...someone check if I did it correctly please. Core Clock 405mhz, Shader 800mhz ???? for some reason your 460gtx has been put into emergency mode to be stable without, please see your fps compared 900MHz core com "and see if there are not 25fps 420fps. 460gtx position Error = Core 405mhz/ Shader 800mhz .
September 24, 201014 yr Looking at the current results i am really confused. Current leader in Kombuster has different base clocks. So now the others are significantly lower.
September 24, 201014 yr Why is rickss69 score (http://hwbot.org/community/submission/1056800_rickss69_gpu_z_gpu_frequency_geforce_gtx_460_256bit_995_mhz) then calculated from a reference clock of 700/900 and not 760/950 like the other two scores? Fixed. GTX460 is now calculated by 675/900 (reference clocks)
September 24, 201014 yr "Hello, An hwbot crew member, Massman, has blocked one of your submitted scores. It has been marked as 'not ran at default settings'. This was the reason the user gave: The card was not running 3D clocks (check afterburner)" You can view your result here: http://hwbot.org/community/submission/1056986_rickss69_gpu_z_gpu_frequency_geforce_gtx_460_256bit_1002_mhz Not sure why my submission was blocked when I don't even use Afterburner to clock the card. No version of Afterburner I have tried has allowed voltage adjustment. Just what is "default settings"? Am I to understand that Afterburner is the only acceptable means of overclocking one of these cards, or just for this contest? This is more than frustrating... If the greater score was blocked why was the lessor one allowed when it was run exactly the same? http://hwbot.org/community/submission/1056800_rickss69_gpu_z_gpu_frequency_geforce_gtx_460_256bit_995_mhz Edited September 24, 201014 yr by rickss69
September 24, 201014 yr In the Afterburner graph you can see that the frequency you're running at is not 995MHz, but 405MHz.
September 24, 201014 yr In the Afterburner graph you can see that the frequency you're running at is not 995MHz, but 405MHz. I can not help that. Perhaps it is due to the version of Afterburner I am using...and it is only used for the temp graph function. I just re -ran this bench again using the same settings as always, pulled up Kombustor and made no changes...just click and run. I have even provided a gpu-z validation. If those numbers are wrong on the screen then why did you approve my lessor score with the same numbers showing? If my latest submission is blocked I do not know how I can correct what you think is wrong. Also, will you throw out the other two submissions where that portion of the screen is covered? The fact that I made no attempt to cover any data on screen and a gpu-z validation provided should tell you there is no trickery going on here. http://hwbot.org/community/submission/1057111_rickss69_gpu_z_gpu_frequency_geforce_gtx_460_256bit_1006_mhz
September 24, 201014 yr It's also quite obvious that the Kombustor benchmark is not running at 3D clocks. Just have a look at the FPS rates in the upper-left corner ... only 17 AVG whereas others have 400+.
September 24, 201014 yr It's also quite obvious that the Kombustor benchmark is not running at 3D clocks. Just have a look at the FPS rates in the upper-left corner ... only 17 AVG whereas others have 400+. And exactly how does one change that? I have made it clear that I am not using Afterburner to clock with. Currently I have version 1.6 installed because version 2.00 will not install at all for me. If you can point to where these changes can be made I will gladly try it. Otherwise, I submit you are seeing those numbers because Afterburner is not being used to overclock this card. If you say that Afterburner is the only utility to be used in this contest then I guess I am done. Also you did not address the other two submissions where that portion of the screen is hidden? I suspect had I had mine covered as well we would not be having this discussion. Edited September 24, 201014 yr by rickss69
September 24, 201014 yr I may be cutting my own throat, but I made this Vantage run yesterday using the exact same overclocking method... http://hwbot.org/community/submission/1056684_rickss69_3dmark_vantage___performance_geforce_gtx_460_256bit_20430_marks Is this not valid as well? Without Afterburner working as it should I do not know what else I can do with this card.
September 24, 201014 yr Fine - Do not reply...just keep putting my other run back up with the exact same errors you faulted in my latest submissions. That makes great sense Mass.
September 24, 201014 yr rickss, I've experienced the same problem with frequencies and forceware 260.63... Try older drivers, like the 259.22, they should work Probably Afterburner doesn't support the latest 260.63... edit: Just tried with the 259.22, everything works fine Edited September 24, 201014 yr by |ron

If I can figure out how to flash the bios on this card maybe I will be able to do something with it. Thanks for the reply. Btw, the most common error I get when trying to install Afterburner is "missing or corrupted files D3DCompiler_42.dll. Something to do with DirectX from what I gather. It isnt that the card is not running the frequencies stated in gpu-z, but rather the older versions of Afterburner are not allowing Kombustor to see/record it properly I believe. What a pita... September 25, 201014 yr I've had this problem too... I solved it by downloading and installing "directx redistributable package june2010" from microsoft website. My missing dll wad d3d9_42.dll but I think the problem is the same, give it a try.

September 25, 201014 yr Splave, the problem with the dx doesn't let you open Kombustor, so you can't choose to run in fullscreen or windowed mode. After changing to 259.22 driver and installing the June 2010 dx package, everything was ok
