In general x99 is much more a current gen intel cpu than x79 or z97. Leeg has given an inch with older xeons and now everyone is asking for a mile. Quote

They are the same as regular I7 and they are a little bit cheaper Update on the rules: Only Intel LGA 2011, LGA1366, LGA1156, LGA1155, LGA1150, LGA775, LGA771 or older single CPU sockets are allowed (no other server or ES hardware) single Xeon CPUs allowed up to max of 6 cores!!! So yes you can use your Sandy-E based Xeon CPUs on LGA2011 @Speedy22 The DDR4 2011-3 platform is out of the question as its way better per IPC than X79... with BW-E CPUS and BDIE memory, 3400C11 is perfectly possible...
