ASUS HD 5850 DirectCU II - volt mod assistance required! :)
nachtfalke replied to a topic in Graphics cards
does matter..small difference , just give it a try and will see!, desolder the smd´s and then measure exacly the value! the vid mod area from back side is exacly like in my pic , yes? -

sure, you can remove resistor 2 and 3 , measured the resistance and soldering a variable resistor set at same value to specific place that in Ramiro pic. it is another way to control voltage over ovp/ocp limit ( ask elmor )via I2C bus adress , if the mod above is a bit complicated for you just hint a PM to elmor , i shaw eVC have support for uP6208. http://forum.hwbot.org/showthread.php?t=92937 http://forum.hwbot.org/showthread.php?t=83984 -

if you made VID mod dont have that problem with ocp/ovp anymore , is ONLY way to pass over OVP , ocp can be modded via trimmer pot , but he offer 40-50mv before OVP trigger out..so need vid mod. in fact OCP and OVP have almost same symptoms, both shut down the vga ..0 Volts , always OCP shutdown first and then OVP ( if you have allready the ocp modded before) unfortunately i dont have now hd 5850 DC2 ( my oldest DC2 is allready dead), but i know have same pcb design like hd 5870 V2 , fortunately i have here 2 pcs .i made for you a pic with back side were the ressisors for vid are located! please compare with your card if they are identical if i compare my card( no vid modded) with ramiro card ..he moved only resistor noted 2 ( moved down )and 3(moved up) . PS: if you dont have enought soldering skill , i dont recommended soldering that area , can be dangerous for vga life -

that can be OCP ( over current protection) before OVP( over voltage protection) , but the pwm it have both, i think the OVP will trigger 1.38 -1.4v OCP can be modded from pin 2 ( imax2) to GND with a resistor( see datasheet) , but like as said before will push then in OVP , so last chance is VID mod anyway:) -

make a probe with FB mod and see the ovp value were it is , if the value is 1.45 -1.5v ( ovp trigger is different from card to card)is enought for cold water -

hd 5850 CU2 have same pcb design like HD5870 V2 ... my friend Ramiro has configured the VID mod for HD5870 v2 to 1.4 -1.45v by default ..if you want more , can go with FB mod( 1.5 -1.6 will be enought resonable) or software ..smart doctor for exemple:D that is the easy way vid mod is neccesary because you can go over ovp/ocp protection , if you want 1.45+ that is a must here the mod: http://forum.lab501.ro/showpost.php?p=227301&postcount=173 -

FB is pin8 , but you will have OVP trigger on that pwm , need VID mod anyway datasheet http://www.hwgurus.com/Slike_forum/Quake/razno/uP6208.pdf -

so , you bench without know the voltages? , even voltmode nothing? but you hint 1110 mhz?..need to try this trick ..prehaps i will hint WR easily=)),... hd4850 don´t have software voltages control:D( just matrix ( itracker software)..and that is limited to 1.35v if i remember corectly form my card ) so you need voltmode evan on matrix , just saying you will need 1.55 -1,6v in gpu for 1ghz what ram ic´s have you on the card? gpu load temps? IF your card can do very very hard 1110mhz heavy load vantage gpu test ..i undestand that , BUT if can do 1110mhz , FOR SURE can do EASILY 1060 -1080mhz for exemple every time from day or night to make a film with all detail asked before als a proof! thanks!
-
sure:) we want proof , i am satisfied with a film run vantage gpu test at 1060 ...i´m not ask for 1100+ because is obvious. if you are a overclocker and you play with lot of hw ..y know allready that freq is not possible on water .. one day before he posted with same setup/coolin/bench- 980mhz on gpu ...and one day after he have a revelation at 1110mhz ?
-
yes , i have 2 x hd 4850 msi OC with samsung ic´s and can over 1400 , but i want info from this guy not you:) even Qimonda ram with a strong mem controler can do 1350mhz, i have one gainward cards it have NCP gpu pwm controller and lot of problems with OVP protection over 1.55v need to make it zombie:)
-
sorry , but from mine experience with lot of cards and "accidentaly" about 10 x Hd 4850 ..this score it is imposibile on water..even chiller . RV770 don´t scale up to 1100mhz with +temp on gpu , the best of cards can 1000-1020 mhz and 1.55v -1,6v , low ambient temperature. 1100mhz is almost the maximum of this chip on LN2 ( and remember lot of these chip´s work full POT ), and you say that score is on water?? for me does´t matter what do you say but is not fair play here .. i´m currios have you hard modded? samsung or hynix ic ram´s? what gpu voltage and mem?

same for mine recent submision .. -
does´t matter what kind of chiller do use ...that is a extreme cooling solution , even you cooling with + degresse. extreme cooling - cooling that is NOT dependent of ambient temperature. so in this case you have a refrigerant compressor inside with a refrigerant gass ( mostly specifical for that usual chiller - R134A gass) ...so the compressor cooling your water loop constantly at that temperature that you will set from electronic thermostat...., if you moded that chiller and splint directly off the thermostat( put directly compressor on AC without thermostat temp controler) ...you will be able to cooling under sub0 ... (R134A can do ~ -26.2*C( boiled point) )

asus 8800GT top don´t need another vrm , because it have one enought powerfull for G92 chip . it have L6713A pwm ..just moded fb pin and ocp mod . the "secret" is to put a jummper or dip switch on the FB wire ...boot in windows with jummper removed ( without FB mod- on), and then in OS put the jummper back ..then you will be able to inceerese voltages ...without OVP trigger... for the mem , you need REVERSE vmod , because qimonda ic´s are very difficult to bench with lot of voltages , need degreese the voltage ..just moded the FB pin to + vram vrm output , and you will be able to reverse voltages .. measure before the ressistance between the fb pin and out+, and then put a trimmer x 20 over that value good look!
