  1. I would see gains anywhere from 20% to 50% depending on drivers, OS, etc. I remember going from 9K on a 1090T+HD5670 to 20K+ just on Bob's tweaks... Adding the FD settings to that brought it up to 50K+ easy (and I don't even know the "good" FD settings that CherV and the rest of the guys use).
  2. I think that what Bob's tweak does is dump some sort of image cache out and then the test is run on "clean" cache... Not sure though.
  3. - I would guess those two would be allowed. Changing IE settings to get a better score (as long as it's done from the IE Options menu) should be OK. Bob's tweak is simply changing your theme from Aero to Classic and then back to Aero... No reason to make that illegal.
  4. Many ways to skin a cat on this one. The less scrupulous could even make an entirely new .bat file that echoes all the text on the cmd window and makes it look like the benchmark has been run and enter whatever time they please.
  5. +1 to this. I used to think that I knew how to tweak PCM05... And then the "real tweakers" came out and put me back in the corner. I have spent hundreds of hours (not an exaggeration) trying to figure out just one of the tweaks (TE) and have not even managed to get it to budge. This whole tweaking is fun and I really like PCM05 a lot (bugged and meaningless as it is as of now), but there comes a time when one gets tired of banging one's head against the wall and not making it through to the other side.
  6. What say we all dump PCM05 and redirect our energies into destroying PCM 7 next?
  7. Unless you bake it into brownies... Them things are like Pringles; you can't just eat one of them...
  8. I think I misunderstood you earlier post where you said: This is the file used in the TE tests. I guess that in my excitement I assumed that you were talking about "a file" that would implement the Text Edit tweaks, or that would have the settings that enable the high TE scores, but you were just posting the original file that the test is done on. My bad. The file is part of the PCM05 benchmark and, if I'm not mistaken, it is part of one of the .dat packages that are in the PCM05 folder... So it's not explicitly visible, but once the test starts, the first thing that it does is extract the file from the package and then run the search/replace routines that make up the actual test.
  9. Got it, but now I'm confused. That is the file that the benchmark uses to do the searching on the TE test. You telling me that you've changed something on it? Isn't that against the rules? Better yet; how do you make that work being that the file is packed into an archive that gets extracted when the benchmark runs? Don't get me wrong... Not accusing you of anything; just wondering what is being done with the file.
  10. @GENiEBEN The .rtf link leads to a 404 page.
  11. I concur... I look at PCM05 and I can't help but think of that "200% crazy GF" that a guy has once in their life time... Sure; she's moody, impossible to figure out, can make you feel "inadequate" without even trying, gives you nightmares, makes you feel guilty about being you, etc... But then there is that one time, when the stars and the planets align and you get everything right... And then.... THEN.... She gives you the ride of your life and you're hooked. QFFT
  12. Crazy speed on that chip man. Some questions: 1. Why is the submission blocked/deleted? Is it because it needs to be approved by staff before making it to the rankings? 2. The screenshot you attached of the CPUz validation shows the Orange background in the top left corner (as in submission validated at cannardpc.com), but the link to the validation shows it with the red background (as in submission rejected at cannardpc.com). The screenshot and the validation link both show the same submission ID (2384991) so how can you have one that validated and then the link that rejected?
  13. Tried with Jarte (going through the options inside the program and also editing the .ini file).... No improvement on Text Edit score to speak off. As for the registry... Why is it that there is no repository of all possible DWORDS, etc that one can add/edit? I'm pretty sure that I'm looking in the right place, but I just can't find any documentation that tells me what I can add or what the options (DWORDS) are.
  14. I know about Jarte... Still trying to figure out a way to make it work so that the TE score gets affected.
  15. Nope... CherV's tweak is not something you can set by opening a wordpad document and saving some settings. - There is no option to enable/disable RTF or Unicode within Wordpad. - You can set the search options to watch whole case and search whole word, but those settings are not persistent. - There is no option to disable error reporting by Wordpad. CherV's tweak is either a program that makes those settings persistent or a registry tweak (I'm leaning towards this one as I have found the section of the registry that pertains to WordPad, but I can't find the DWORDs to use).
  16. ^^^^ You tease!!! I'm guessing 120K+ for TW and 70K+ for Audio...
  17. Yup... TW over 90K will be the to work as a bigger multiplier when you maximize the other sub-tests.
  18. It all has to do with the math behind how the final score is calculated... I'll explain: - PCM05 score is calculated by taking the Geometric Mean of the 16 sub test scores and multiplying that number by 87. So a final PCM05 score would look like this: PCMarks = Geomean(st1, st2, st3, ... ,st16) * 87 The Geomean function is the nth root of the product of n scores... So for PCM05 the final score would be expressed as follows: PCMarks = 87 * (st1 * st2 * st3 * ... * st16)^(1/16) And if we apply mathematical properties of exponents we can re-write it as PCMarks = 87 * st1^(1/16) * st2^(1/16) * st3^(1/16) * ... * st16^(1/16) The fact that we're taking the 16th root of each and every sub-test score is what normalizes the results and "prevents" anomalies when a particular sub-test score is "too high". But there's a "tweak" here as well. The nature of PCM05 is that sub-test scores range from the 9s (memory latency) to the 100Ks (Transparent windows). Taking the 16th root of any of the sub-test scores will reduce that score to a number slightly greater than 1... And now that we are getting close to 100K mark on TW test; it will even go a bit past 2. Example: Memory Latency Score: 9 --> 9^(1/16) = 1.14720269. I like to think of the difference between the number above and 1 as the weight of that particular test's score towards the final PCM05 score (or how much it will affect it). The reason TW has gone from being the most important test to now being second to Text Edit is the following. A TW score done by someone like me (I know how to get 60K on it, but I haven't figured out the 100K tweak yet) when compared to the 100K scores that Pro and CherV can get would look like this: 60000^(1/16) = 1.98899849 vs 100000^(1/16) = 2.05352503 1 - (1.98899489/2.05352503) = 0.0314223294 --> ~3.14% Or that an improvement from 60K to 100K in Transparent Windows (67% Improvement on sub-test score) would only give me a 3.15% increase in the effect that particular score has on the final score. But if we look at the Text Edit sub-test: A normal score for this particular test (without the new tweak) is in the 300 to 400 rate. See Gluvocio's score here. He has the highest 4x score that is not using the Text Edit tweak and his score on it is 355.38. If we compare that score to Pro's #1 score for 4x CPU here; his Text Edit score is 36836.75. 355.38^(1/16) = 1.44350506 36386.75^(1/16) = 1.92778659 That's a little bit more than a 1000% improvement on the sub-test score, but we don't care about those... We want to see what the change in "weighted" score is. 1 - (1.92778659/1.44350506) = 0.251211173 --> ~25.12% And this is what makes the Text Edit test the most important nowadays... Going from "non tweaked" to "tweaked" would give you a 25% improvement on your final score. We can see that if we compare Gluvocio's final score (64K) vs Pro's final score (87K) and it does come quite close to that number... The actual difference between those two scores is ~35%, but that's due to Pro also beating Gluvocio in other sub-tests and not just on Text Edit. Ok... I hope this helps some of you better understand the ins and outs of this benchmark. Seebs
  19. ROFL... Sad but true... We all thought the "Rabbid Mouse Tweak" worked; and it does to a certain extent. Here's the reasoning behind why it doesn't and why getting the pointer out of the way is best. - Try the TW test and leave the mouse alone right after you hit the "Start Benchmark" button... that should leave the pointer somewhere in the middle of the screen. You'll notice that the windows move around fast, but slow down when they get closer to the area where the pointer was left. - Now run the test again and move the mouse like a mad man... You will now see that the windows move faster, but some of them still appear to hit a slow patch at certain points. - Now run the test and move the mouse pointer to the corner so that no windows can go over it. You'll get a higher score. I'm not sure, but I'm willing to bet the windows that come in contact with the pointer are the ones that get slowed down and throw your score off. And the reason the "rabbid mouse tweak" kind of worked is because by moving it like crazy the tendency is to rotate the pointer around the edges of the screen (you may not see it, but the momentum you put on the mouse when shaking it like crazy will make the pointer get closer and closer to the edges of the screen) and being far out to the edge means that it has less chance of hitting a moving window so they all move faster... You still hit one or two every once in a while and they slow down. Just move the mouse out of the way and see.
  20. I forgot to tell you... it's case sensitive.
  21. It failed for me on the first couple of tries. Here's how I got it to work: - Launch PCM05 - Do the bob80 tweak (switch themes + lock PC) - Launch Flash Desktops (You will have already created the PCMark05.exe rule and customized the settings as per CherV's instructions. - Run the TW test. It took a couple tries, but I got it working.
  22. I know that... It's not that being Pro means "you get everything for free"... I know there are the rare few where that is the reality; and I also know that there are people in the Pro league that are there because they want the challenge; even if they still buy all their own HW... And there are also those that are put in the Pro league because they get a review sample a few times a year... Trust me; I'm not knocking on the Pro guys; I'd love to be there myself... My argument is that cooling should not be a factor in deciding leagues because it leaves people like Faster in this predicament and it gives way to threads like the one we're writing to right now. If the bot were split into Pro (You either have corporate backing or you ask to be put on it and show that you can hang with the big boys) and Non-Pro (You don't get any kind of corporate backing ~no review HW, no sponsored HW, no ES HW, no binned HW~ The way I look at it... The difference between the Enthusiast-OC-Extreme leagues as it refers to points is that Enthusiast doesn't get WR points; the rest of the points are counted the same and compete against each other. Right? So when I run DICE and make some submissions; I'm still competing against Extreme guys and Enthusiast guys for HW and Global points all the same. Right? And if I somehow get lucky and manage to snatch some WR points; I do get to keep them because I'm in the OC League; whereas, the guy in Enthusiast doesn't... That's what bothers me... If we can compete for HW/Globals against them; why would they not be allowed to compete for WR against the rest of us? Why not just make it one big league and everyone competes with everyone?
  23. I agree... IMO; the leagues should be Non-Pro and Pro... No distinction on cooling, only whether one gets sponsored HW or not. The flaw in this argument is that, with how the leagues are set up now, HWBot is "punishing" people with skill/experience simply because they chose not to freeze HW. It's the whole "your goal doesn't count" because you play for Botafogo instead of AC Milan.
  24. I really have to figure out where it is that the registry edits take place; the program is nice and easy, but I feel that there are more things that can be adjusted via Regedit that we're not seeing on it.
  25. My 0.02... Notice how it DOESN'T mention anything about what kind of HW, or what amount of money is to be used. Hell; I know at least a handful of guys that submit for the Enthusiast League that, if they had any desire to go extreme, could outspend some of the Pros and the only reason they stay in Enthusiast is because they don't feel the need/desire to freeze their $10K gaming rigs... The part that I don't agree with on this whole thread is the assumption/presumption that Enthusiast League equals cheap HW and that the members of this league should be protected from big spenders. Why? No other league gets any protection from people with big pockets or corporate backing... I see no reason why the Enthusiast league should be different. If you have the funds/HW/skill to beat a Pro's LN2 score with air/h20; I say you should be allowed to reap the benefits. It's not a matter of saying "Oh; you're too good for Enthusiast, move to OC or Extreme". What league you're on is not dictated by what HW you run or what scores you can get; it is dictated by two factors: Cooling (OC - Extreme) and/or Corporate backing/sponsorship (Pro)... There is nothing that says that because someone can afford $5K worth of GPUs they should move out of Enthusiast. I did like that Rugby/Soccer analogy that Massman made, but I think it was wrong... The case here is not that Faster wants FIFA to change the rules so he can run around holding the ball in his hand... The problem is that he scored an olympic goal (corner kick straight to goal without anyone else touching it) and FIFA has decided his goal doesn't count because he doesn't play for FCB or Real Madrid.
