  1. Initial testing... Daily driver + Fully bloated OS + Daily Clocks + Win Update trying to run in the background... No Tweaks bob80' Tweak bob80 & CherV's Tweak
  2. Let me clarify... I'm not asking for anyone to reveal/give me their tweaks... I'd rather spend a month or three looking for them and figure them out myself than just getting a set of instructions on how to achieve them. The frustrating part, on my end, at least is the fact that I seem to have reached a point where I'm getting some sort of "tweaker's block" and can't think of which way to go with my research... That's the reason I'm putting PCM05 on hold for a while, so I can come back to it with a fresh mind and outlook... Now; I'm not going to stop you from helping all of us out, but if it were up to me... I'd rather get them from my own blood/sweat/tears than have them handed to me.
  3. Agreed... I don't mind that it is a three or four people game right now. I see it as a challenge. The one thing that frustrates me to no end is that I just can't seem to get that "bingo" moment when messing with the registry/dwm/gdiplus etc... I've borked the OS so many times testing things out that I've gotten a bit burned out of this whole "tweak search". Just gotta take a break and come back at it with a fresh eye/mind. As for the obscure hints, etc... The well known tweaks are very well documented by now... It's those newer ones (80K+ TW ~ 300+ RAM Latency ~ 30K+ Audio encoding ~ 10K+ Text edit) those are still being kept quite secret by the handful of people that have found/shared them among themselves.
  4. I'm with you... I guess what TW should have put on his video was that each card, regardless of brand, will have a different sweet spot... It may have been LOD 20 for him (on his HW) but it will be a different number for each person since we're all working with different HW.
  5. If LOD is hurting your Pixel shader test; you're doing it wrong. I've improved that particular test scores from about 700 points (955BE @ 3.8GHz + HD5670 @ stock clocks) to about 1020 points (same clocks on CPU and GPU) just by adjusting LOD until I found the sweetspot for my particular card.
  6. So is anyone here going to drop a hint as to how they're messing with the GDI+ stuff? I haven't been able to figure out how to get the TW test to look like the one on Pro's video.
  7. I misread the thing... I know zlib is what OS uses for zip compressing, but did not even think about that when writing my reply. I'm sure they (you) are doing the transparent window tweak in a way that doesn't change files in the PCM05 folder; I just can't seem to figure out the how/where of the tweak... I know it has to do with GDIPlus, but I can't find any reference to that other than the API documentation and that's overwhelming enough on its own.
  8. The zlib1.dll is part of the futuremark folder; so if that's what you guys are modding in order to improve the transparent window score... I'd say it's not allowed. If FM is using older dlls and that's the only way the submissions validate, that's something to bring up to FM... But rules say we can't change the bench in any way... I sure hope you guys are using some other method that doesn't involve changing the files in the PCM05 folder.
  9. WOW... This is getting crazy! I likes. On that note; I'm lost... GDI+ is currently kicking my butt and I don't know which way to go with it. You guys using the API? or just some registry hacks to Win7 to force the windows to be drawn via it?
  10. Hey CherV... Thanks for the info. I am going to have me some fun digging into DWM and the registry this week for sure. One question I have on this... The above item: Does that mean that one needs a 120Hz monitor in order to reach those levels?
  11. Problem with this submission is that the validation link belongs to wagex... He's on my team, so how/why are you using a validation link that does not belong to you to submit here?
  12. I wish I had a full time job at the moment... For now; I just teach math to kids/teenagers so their parents can send them off to good colleges. No problem. It's well worth the time investment (It took me about two hours to get the whole thing done) but now I have a clean Win7 ISO with everything one needs to bench PCM05 in it and all I have to do is mess with different strips to see what works and what doesn't. Speaking of which... It's time for my weekly sponge bath bossman... And this time I expect you to get those "hard to reach spots"...
  13. You guys are going to be the death of me... I now have to go hunting for the 10K Text Edit tweak and figure out how to get 60K out of transparent windows... One question though: I keep seeing this FMPad being mentioned, but all searches I do for the term lead me to virus/security warnings on fmpad.exe. What am I missing here? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ @ K404 and others having issues getting IE9 to install on Win7... This is how I got around those problems (I had them too). 1. Start from a Clean ISO of Win7. 2. Download these files ---- windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe (That's SP1 update for 64 Bit) / windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe (That's SP1 update for 32 Bit) ----- Linky: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=5842 ---- IE9-win7.msu ----- Linkies: X86: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=210145 - X64: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=210143 3. Download and install RTSevenLite. NOTES: - You need to get the Beta 2.6.0 version of the program. It is the only one that supports SP1 slipstreaming. - You will need to download and install WAIK before installing the RT7 software. 4. Once all the required programs are installed - Run RT7Lite - Load the clean W7 ISO into it. - Select the SP1 update file (KB976932). - Don't do any stripping of the OS. - Let RT7 slipstream SP1 into the ISO and create a new ISO. Save that new ISO to HDD. Close RT7 - Open RT7 and load the new ISO (with SP1) into it. - Go to the "Load Updates" section and add the IE9.win7.msu file to the update path. - Let RT7 load the update and create a new ISO. The reason I do two separate steps (one for SP1 and one for IE9) is that after a number of failed attempts at doing both on the same process I just gave up and decided to do them one by one. The IE9 slipstream tends to fail if you do it with any other files being slipstreamed on the same batch. You now have a clean ISO with SP1 and IE9 that you can then strip to your heart's content and not worry about not being able to install IE9 to it. Yes; it takes a bit of work in the beginning, but once you have that clean ISO with the updates added to it; you don't have to repeat the process ever again... You just load that ISO into whatever stripping SW you use (RT7, Vlite, etc) and remove as much as you want from it.
  14. mr.paco... You'd really do well for your scores if you went and visited this thread: Here. The 2D Transparent window "tweak" alone will improve your scores greatly.
  15. I don't think there's a new tweak in transp windows Alex. Mine is just a variant of bob80's tweak where I went through the steps and figured out what was needed and what wasn't. I think the rest of the "tweak" has to do with OS optimization. I can get 30K consistently on a 965BE @ 4.2GHz with my variation of the tweak and my own strip of Win7 so I'm sure that the combination of the tweak, my OS and a good chip could yield 40K and higher.
  16. This part I don't entirely agree with. If we were to run by that logic alone; then all "tweaking" would be disallowed, modded BIOSes would be out, stripped OSs would be gone, volt mods would be out of the question since that really takes the HW "out of spec". IMO; tweaking is just another skill that a bencher needs to acquire in order to be competitive, but this is not a subject for this thread. I do like PCM05 very much; not because it's easy points (since I don't have the HW to take advantage), but because it forces me to learn about OS optimization and other areas of computing in general.... Oh and because I can help my team get better scores.
  17. FTW's scores are not so much a function of the 7970 as they are a function of his great CPU. The tests that are affected by the GPU are only 2 of the suite and one can make up for the loss on those two by out doing FTW on other sections (Gen Usage - Virus Scan - Transparent Windows... For example). I don't have the storage to compete on this one, but I can easily out score FTW on the transparent windows test... Hell; I can double his score on a 965BE at 4.2GHz; that alone is not enough though. Storage is where PCM05 is won and lost. Yup... It all depends on the SATA 3 disk you get. The Max IOPS will do over 220MB/s on XP startup on its own, so will others... I think Kow mentioned the PyroSE also blowing past that limit with ease. It's just like on everything; there are SATA3 SSDs and then there are SATA3 SSDs.
  18. Yup... I believe I have this OS and the "bob80" tweak to the point where it would produce 40K+ with some decent Intel chip, but I'm stuck with AMD for the time being. Amazing how the bench went from everyone wanting it "dead and buried" to being one of the most popular benches lately... Judging by the number of daily submissions; everyone and their friends are now getting in on the fun. I'm now on my new "mission": Figuring out the legal way to get the 60 pages/s on web page rendering.
  19. I wonder what I'd get if I had nicer HW to test with. No new tweaks or anything, just my "variant" on the bob80 tweak and some OS optimization.
  20. Hell yeah... I like how PMC05 is exploding now. Very nice HDD Gen Usage Mike.
  21. Very nice run Gappo... You need to get the 2D Transparent Window tweak going man. Stelaras explained it and bob80 did too; they just left a "small detail" out, maybe they forgot, maybe they just wanted people to still have to work for it a bit... But 99% of the "tweak" is documented; just needs that little extra push to get it to perform reliably and repeatedly.
  22. Great stuff there TopDog. I have a feeling we have some crazy PCM05 times in our future. ~1400 Virus Scan... Tasty.
  23. 30K is so close I can smell it. Even more impressive is the fact that this is on weak sauce HW. This 965BE won't go much farther than that on air, I'm running budget RAM and the board is not working 100%.
  24. Now I can finally move on from 2D Transparent Windows and start obsessing about Web Page Rendering. Great score!
  25. Some results after testing the "tweak". Pre Tweak After Tweak
