  1. currently three viable...soon to be 4. Not a big deal in the grand scheme, except they are mainly the top-scoring cards and the future will see many more of them (not including the Asus X3, 7800GT Dual or 6600GT Dual) Does it seem fair that people who buy two (single core) GPUs for SLI/CF have to compete with people who buy three or four? not meant in a bitchy way, but the most obvious response to your point.....
  2. I agree completely- a 100% GPU bench would be very nice, but theres a strong chance if there was one it would be along the same lines as Sandra- just a GFLOP chart....
  3. Id like to add 2 1/2 reasons why GPU-Z HOF is not a good idea 1/ screeny of freq is pointless- nVidia and ATI dont care about raw MHz the same way Intel did. theres just no point to the bench except as another way to award silverware points 2/ It will give another skewed value to certain hardware 3/ This is a legitimate score, yet 100% BS at the same time: Yup...thats a 6600GT at 1GHz core, 3DM03 stable, with a TEC. These are my opinions, but its how I feel about the situation. IMHO raw MHz are meaningless
  4. Thanks Will highlight any runs I submit with a modded .inf so mods can check im not playing silly buggers....better safe than sorry
  5. If I found a good driver for benching but it didnt support a card I wanted to bench, would it be legal to mod the .inf so I could use the card with the driver? Cheers, K
  6. GPU-bottleneck ahoy! :D
  7. I had a great 5700LE back in the day

    benching rant

Holy thread revival! IMO P-ATA HDDs dont make enough difference to warrant any kind of "boo-hoo" and O.S. doesnt really fall into the category of who has the most money to fling at the hobby. Software can appear on the net, cascades dont (unless im looking on the wrong torrent sites....)
  9. http://www.hwbot.org/quickSearch.do?hardwareId=GPU_221 I was trawling HWB for ideas and saw that category. Is it possible to have multi-card setups on PCI? I was sure SLI was purely for PCI-E, or is there more than one allowed definition of multiple cards in a category? Orrrr....should it be PCI-E and its just a typo? K
  10. For some reason I dont have the option of deleting these two results from my collection: http://www.hwbot.org/compare.do?resultId=634322 http://www.hwbot.org/compare.do?resultId=605603 Iv improved on these scores, so dont need the old ones. If a mod could delete them, id appreciate it. Cheers! K
  11. Well- I called you out in public so its only fair I apologise in the same way- I more or less accused you of cheating with the 7800GTX. I put the time into understanding how to get the best from the card and now I know you werent. Sorry for the accusation Kenny
  12. No, its not pointless, but you've countered your previous post- you ARE benching vantage, so theres no problem. Theres nothing wrong with 3D competition- its the obcession that some people have with points that bothers me. If that isnt you, then A/good, and B/sorry for implying that its what drives you. If I had vista and/or an HDD for it, I will run it. One way or another, but I would never buy the $500 version. TBH- I dont see the big deal about needing a net connection. wPrime needs one. _____________________________ If HWB cancelled all individual points, by what % would daily submissions fall? How much smaller would HWBs userbase become? Its just a theory obviously, but I would love to separate the people who bench because they love it from the people who bench because there are points.
  13. If you wanna bench Vantage, bench it. Whats stopping you? This attitude of only benching for points has to stop- from all the people who think like that. Its the wrong attitude.
  14. Thanks rich Good test of the relationship between FM and the community- also we can see if HWB really does have that much of an impact on the bigger picture
  15. LOL do you need this bench to make you feel better about your GPU purchases? Would you not bench it if there were no points? Stop benching for glory- bench because you like to bench. I hope you will bench 3DMVantage no matter what HWB says. There is still the ORB, there is still going to be a form of leaderboard, so if you do well you will get some recognition. If HWB want to take the load off their servers, remove all points. That will separate the people who enjoy benching from the shallow people who need points to feel good at what they do. IMHO, those people bench for the wrong reasons. Seriously- if there were no HWB points, would you not bother?
  16. no points to start I say- partly to see who benches because they wanna bench and not because someones dangling a carrot in front of them and also- partly to see how things develop. Better to add points to a system thats proven to work, than remove points from a system thats falling apart because the people who were doing well will obviously go in the huff. Im not a fan of needing a new monitor to run a bench at full strength, from what I gather of it so far. It looks like performance is the best way to go. Not tried it yet though, so no concrete opinion on the bench itself oh- and the wPrime comments- I thought HWB was gonna separate off the multi CPU systems from the single?
  17. Nope For me personally- I dont see the point of CPU-Z benching because I dont see the point of "having" MHz that cant do anything, so a GPU-Z picture of MHz wouldnt interest me at all, only a bench or a test ran at xxx MHz. Also- seeing as its purely a function of MHz, it loses a bit more of the point because it doesnt recognise the differences between cards or clock efficiency. Just my opinion though.
  18. What about having 3DM01 nature or AM3 as a minimum requirement for a GPU clock speed "verification" SPi1M and CPU-Z are pointless for any indication of stability, but are so popular for people breaking GHz barriers etc Im working on some GPU stuff at the mo and hope to get either of those benches to complete to show off some MHz. Dont see why it should be less of an achivement than using SPi 1M to show "OMG I broke 5.7GHz on an E84" or whatever

  20. This isnt meant personally, but im sure you can understand that there is no way of proving your clockspeeds from that picture. You could have run at any speed and got a score. In theory, you could have been cheating. IMHO, all results without proof of clockspeed should either be deleted, or ineligible for points. I know the rules change, but to just have a score seems pointless, without any extra details.
  21. Nothing personal, purely business Hopefully not a sprint, but a marathon- good luck and good benching to all
  22. Flame me all you like, this needs to be said. a legal score- a mip cheat score- someone elses score- http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/9218/2003zs2.jpg the recorded clockspeeds are 4130MHz 598/740. Either the clockspeeds are BS or the score is BS. No-one else in the category can match the performance per clock. Moving onto 3D05- a mip cheat score- Someone elses score- http://img506.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2005eq6.jpg reported clockspeeds are 3850MHz 586/685
  23. Thats why i reported them. I didnt delete them, if thats what you mean?
  24. I didnt know it was you. I didnt know a user could find out who reported their scores. I only found out because I was cleaning out old results with no points..
  25. Awwww...isnt that sweet. I report yours, so you report mine. You can keep reporting those scores- every time I change an FM link to fix a reported result, another result goes without. That wont be fixed because im not going to generate a new FM account every time I submit scores for a new bit of kit You can resort to accusing me of not knowing anything, but im going to be mature and not retort back. OS is unlikely to make that big-a difference to scores. What drivers did you use? Il try them, compared to the 84.21 iv found to work best for me so far. Report as many of my scores as you want. All are 100% legit, and nothing you can do or say can change that.
