watercooling is enough My runs were at 2.05V but the RAM is the bottleneck I reckon so the extra MHz of a GLH do real damage in 3D01, 03 and AM3. [OT] I cant remember my 01 setup, might have been scrappy but I didnt think Mr Alibabar would beat me with so much less on the CPU
-
Ah. ok, that does things slightly but overall I think my point should stick
-
I think you're proving my point. The 7800GT 512MB cards ALL have a higher spec RAM bin in the same way as the 7800GTX 256MB Vs 512MB. Therefore its not really fair to compare the two side by side. The stock (RAM) speed of the GT 512MB is pretty much the same as the max OC of the GT 256MB. Do you want no separation of cards based on performance clock to clock, or at stock speeds or what? There are too many examples I could give against your arguement. This isnt a case of a lucky card. ANY 512MB 7800GT will perform better. Its clear and defineable, not just luck of the draw like good or crap RAM on an 8800GT 512MB for example.

How many vendors released the rarer 1GB versions of popular cards that have their own category on HWB? Realistically...the same ones, but there is still distinction. Mainly wrong. The RAM volume and RAM placement/routing is the only difference. The fundamental PCB, PWM and cooling are the same. There are 7800GTX 256MB cards with the 2-slot cooler...classing cards by cooling is not worth discussing Irrelevant. Same arguement as the first comment I answered Not sure what you are getting at here. If you think there should only be one category per card then a lot.. A LOT of categories need to go. The 7800GT example is one thats been missed according to HWB category separation. To say the situation should not be changed means that a lot of other things need to go to keep HWBs approach consistent. We could extend the idea of not caring about memory size...lets group by a cards eqipment and tech size: 7900GT 256MB, 7900GT 512MB, 7900GTX, 7900GT0, 7950GT (which also has 256MB and 512MB versions which arent separated on HWB)...should we lump them all into one category seeing as the RAM volumes and PCB designs are the only difference worth discussing?

The higher speed RAM is on all 7800GT 512MB,so there is a clear and consistent difference. If you buy a 7800GT 512MB it will perform better. SAV I think your reasoning makes no sense. Why are there separate categories for the 7800GTX 512MB? The 7900GS and 7900GT 512MB cards? 8800GT 256, 512MB and 1GB cards etc etc etc K
-
Theres a higher RAM bin on the 512MB cards, the 256MB doesnt stand a hope in hell against it.
-
Can the 7800GT have an extra class added for the 512MB cards? The RAM is significantly better on them so gets an advantage over the 256MB cards. Plenty other cards with extra categories for different RAM volumes where the difference is smaller. Yes, I have a vested interest in this one as Im ranked with the 7800GT (256) and am being beaten by some 512MB scores Cheers, K

Please can that be written and stated in the HWB rules? Unwritten rules arent rules if it comes down to it....
-
Well im screwed now coz I essentially just admitted to it in advance (unless its made clear that this in unacceptable, in which case I will not do it. 9800GT and 8800GT is just the same...as well as some of the 6800 series but those are different stories. I have a 9800GT here thats 65nm and A2 silicon. I got "screwed" on the package. Clockspeeds will probably be about the same...so so will my scores. Why cant ATI and nV make things more clear cut?
-
We all know they are the same card and nV just reflashed the name ID. If we did the same, can we submit results for both categories from one card? My gut feeling is"no" but because its an nV oddity...... may as well ask.
-
well...all questions over results start with "I think" sometimes scores just dont look right for the hardware or clocks. Maybe the phrasing is different because of language barriers, im pointing that out, not having a go at anyone

Hey Philly Boy! Tell Fugger we dont wanna see him online for a few days once XS is back up. I can only imagine the stress hes had over the last week- Tell him to go hit the 'Strip an forget about things for a bit

dude...its already up! -
Would it be a good idea to have a graph of a users hardware points progression as well as their global? I think it would look pretty cool and it would let folk who focus more on hardware than global points to still show off their work. Its a bit hisheartening to add e.g. 200 points to a total and have the graph not jump K

Yea...voltmods are not only done on XS VR-Zone..Benchtec....TechPowerUp.....I4M.....OCX.....
-
The obvious thing would be an extension Vince aint stupid, the compo will be fine

3DM03 AFAIK thats still barred. I hope so!!!

I dont know if excluding some hardware from some benches because its too good is a good idea. Its a tough decision to make. Ditch a bench or only allow older hardware..... The mods and admins would get flak either way -
Party at Benchtec! Everyone welcome! (im not cleaning up in the morning though)

A workaround is better than nothing. Plus, its good submission etiquette Plus- a solution cant be backdated can it? I would like to see a workaround added-in ASAP to "stop the rot." The effect of wP v2.0 might make some categories unbenchable in future depending on the software progression of wP. Thats not good Having said that... wP is becoming obsolete. On a top-end rig, its quicker than SPi. The next gen might kill it completely. -
03/05 results deleted! @ demiurg: what's wrong???

How strongly enforced is the score breakdown guideline? When did it come into effect? I can think of a lot of submissions without score breakdowns. I cant see why anyone wouldnt add them- its good to see where the score comes from..but thats deffo just opinion. -
VERY expensive joke I had concerns over SSDs for a server too
-
Well it doesnt work on 7-series cards, but it could have been discovered a couple years ago still

Give in? We'll never give in! Stummer + AwardFabrik.... its great to be neck and neck with you guys so often. Without the competition we would have no incentive to learn Heres to good-natured one-upmanship and good benching K
