The official GeIL FFA II Overclocking Challenge thread.
Massman replied to Christian Ney's topic in HWBOT Competitions
That's no problem, Spyboy. We extract the GeIL competition results straight from the database, so even if it's not your best result in the competition, it wil still be included in the lucky draw list . -
Another alternative is for MSI to ship one extra card to the overclockers at home which they have to give back to the organisation before the competition. At the competition, they're given two new cards. I wonder what would be the cheapest financially: giving away 16 extra high-end cards/mainboards or an extra day of preparation.

In the early days of these kinds of live competitions, people complained that they weren't able to prepare the hardware before the event and it was causing them to either kill the hw or not achieve the best possible results. So they switched to sending the hardware up front, which now turns out to have negative effects too. Personally, I agree with you. Hardware should be provided at the competition only. If the full event would be two days (first day prep, second day comp), there should be no problem preparing for the event.

macci - FX-8150 @ 8429.4MHz - 8429.38 mhz CPU Frequency

Points are enabled to get the score on the frontpage. Macci already said he'd disable points for this when the score is no longer on the frontpage (after 24h). No need to ring the corruption bell (again) FWIW - about the points. Technically, if AMD says the hardware is 'released', anyone can have points for it. HWBOT does not give points to hardware that is under NDA. The hardware vendor decides whether or not hardware is under NDA. -

Based on this and this I conlude scaling is linear (1.385x performance for 1.4x clock). With 8gig cpuz on ln2, maybe 7.65gig 01. Assuming similar IPC, that makes 136k. Maybe 130k. Now, based on this and this, we see no gain between 9800GX2 and GTX580. So 136K. My official guess is: "no, I will not guess this time" -
For those checking the PR, have a look at the references at the bottom of the PR. Cool, eh

Probably close to 8, but not far over. But ... remember Deneb B2. If AMD does the same with Bulldozer, we'll see this stuff on LN2 for sure -

Interesting! Any technical explanation for that behavior ? -

No, CL must be 6. -
No, I don't like that either. [nostalgic-mode]"Oh, where are the FSB-tweaking days ..."[/nostalgic-mode] Going to play with Llano for a while ... maybe that'll cheer me up. Or not.

  Just had my last session with X58. Got extremely annoyed and angry by the behavior of this platform. Waiting for the next architecture to arrive.

You have 8 GTX580s ...

Small news update for the competitors. The hardware will soon be send out to the participants. MSI has noted down information like GPU batch number and added some marks to the different cards. Do note remove the marks on the card! MSI has linked the sign to a card, so it can identify a competition card. Also, don't lap the IHS of the GPU; if the card cannot be identified by the staff, you have a biiig problem. You should be getting the info on how to spot (and secure) the marks soon.
